No I was not visiting Bopeye :iroll:

My wife called this morning frantic and carrying on about my daughter fracturing in her arm at school when she fell down the stairs. The ambulance was rushing her to the E.R. to take care of business. So of course I met my wife down there to find out what was going on. We both beat the ambulance there. A few minutes later the ambulance arrives and in comes the stretcher with my daughter. It looked like a bone was ready to poke through her skin around the bicep muscle on the outside of her arm. an there was a puncture wound on the interior of her arm as well. The doctors, nurses, paramedics all said open fracture. Then they took an x-ray.

The resident Dr. came in and told us the chance of her having a fracture was nil. She informed us that there was a foreign object lodged in her arm. :holdon: She showed us the x-ray, (which was pretty neat) and sure enough, the bone was in good order with something else going across it.

To make a long story short, it turns out when she fell - she fell on her purse that was tucked under her arm. Her purse also broke her fall to some extent. But the pencil that was in her purse decided to go through the inside of her arm and almost, but not quite out the other side. After looking in her purse we found the other half of the pencil that broke off. She had to go to the O.R. and have it surgically removed and take a number of other precautions against infection and such. She will be discharged tomorrow, as long as there are no complications.

All of this because some idiot (enter expletive here) senior decided it would be funny to pour mountain dew on the stairs during school. A number of people had fallen before the janitor got it cleaned up. You have to love the mentality of the youth these days  The worst part is nobody knows who did it, only that it was a senior that was ticked off because they weren't allowed to throw water balloons this year. (part of the schools tradition for seniors) That was also ruined due to idiots that thought it would be more fun to fill the balloons with rocks / urine.

I really hate to see where this country is going to be in another 25 years :noway:

And if I ever do find out who did it....well :mad3: :mad2: :mad3: :mad2: :mad3: :mad2:

ouch, pretty scary stuff Steve.  I was thinkin compound fracture at first.  Never thought it was a pencil, glad it wasnt worse.

FinsnFur

That aint good. I'm glad it wasn't any worse.
Yeah some of the crap kids pull these days is simply amazing. We did some stupid things ourselves, but todays generation seems to be completely lacking respect for others in every way.  :rolleye:

Glad to hear your daughter will be OK.  That was a close call.  An artery could have been punctured.   :shck:

I agree with Jimbo's comment....

That is a sad commetary but so true.  Not all kids are disrespectful but it seems the large majority are.   :rolleye:

Glad she is gonna be ok Steve.

To everyone else's points. Even when I was a kid (I still am ) we played jokes and pranks and so forth, and maybe we didn't so much have the respect, but we didn't want anyone to get hurt and didn't do anything that was going to cause anyone harm. I agree, that I am afraid of what my boys are going to have to go through in the next 10 years. The thought just freaks me out.  :rolleye:

Glad she is ok Steve. And I am not saying nothing about kids now day because I did some dumb stuff when I was a kid.

I will agree that kids don't think, and when they do think it is to "think nothing bad will happen" or "it won't happen to me."  I am sorry to hear about your daughter, and know that she will be in pain for some time, but it sounds like it might heal faster than if it were broken.  Anyway, I will add her to the prayer list.

Its a blessing she wasn't hurt worse than she was. I hope she heals fast and it doesn't mess up her summer.

Born and raised in the southern highlands of Appalachia, I'm just an ol' country boy who enjoys calling coyotes... nothing more, nothing less.

My stupid ISP went down for the last day and a half :rolleye:

My daughter is pretty miserable today. She went back to school today and got pounded with finals. It is that time of year, there ain't no getting around it. The bad part is the pencil went into the arm she rights with. :doh2: Just a few more days for her and its off for the summer. I'm sure she can't wait even more than usual. I appreciate the additions to your prayer lists and I know she does too.

I did some stupid stuff when I was growing up too, but now I know how stupid I really was. :rolleye: I try to teach my kids to act the exact opposite of how I did back in the day. It has worked so far

Thanks guys,
Steve

I do the same Steve, I tell them learn through the mistakes I've already made, some of the old mans stories arent b.s.
We're near the end of the school year as well, this is the last week.

Hang in there young Coultete, you can do it !!!!

Todd Rahm

Steve super glad to here she's ok.

Carolina Coyote

It might take a little time but someone knows who poured the Dew on the steps and will spill the beans sooner or later, his insurance should at least pay the bill and for the pain and discorfort, When my Girls were in school a boy threw a piece of ice that hit one of my girls in the eye, she was in the Hospital for a week, it took about six months but someone finally told who done it. Really hope your daughter recovers OK. cc

iahntr

Wow, that really stinks !!   :rolleye:
Here's prayin for minimal pain, no lasting effects, and
a speedy recovery for her so she can still have a great summer.
Just curious, and sorry if i missed it somewhere, how old is she?

:eyebrownod: :eyebrownod: She'll just love that one Vic.

Scott, technically she is a Junior right now. At least for a few more days. If you ask her she'll tell ya she is a senior though. Hard to believe she'll be graduating next year. Kind of makes ya feel old...I'm not though really  The Dr.'s don't think she'll have any problems when fully recovered, but you know how that can go.

Eye injuries have to be the worst CC. Its a good thing she was able to recover in a week. Hopefully she didn't get any permanent damage from it.

The Dr. did give her the option to stay in the hospital one more day, but she wanted to come home. Can't say I blame her, they would have had a hard time keeping me in there for one night for anything - I hate hospitals.
