I was just setting here listening to the news when it occurred to me.
Isn't it interesting that we have to read the news and watch the polls to see what we are concerned about?
I would hate to think that my own brain couldn't think well enough for itself, to not even realize what concerns me.
How strange our society has become.......????  :wo:

Steve,
Head to the woods, get in your birthday suit like you do..... :innocentwhistle:
sit down and just ponder a few things.
Do you really need the news and polls to tell you how you "feel" about something?

How can they possibly speak for the entire country about how we feel about an issue, when we are the ones they are talking too. Just seems to be backwards somehow...... :shck:

No, YOU don't need the news to tell you anything.  But that is not the point.

If you believe in the law of averages, then it stands to reason that half of the people in this country are below average when it comes to smarts.

The media knows this and panders to them.  These are the people who watch Dancing with the Starts and think Pro Wrestling is real.

The bottom line is if they can convince enough of these people that their point of veiw is correct, they can lead them like sheep.  And they do.   Night after night, day after day, they are conditioned to believe one point of view.  Be it Right Wing or Left Wing, they are brain washed to the point that they just can't think for themselves.  They know what they know and they believe what they believe because someone wanted them to know and believe it.

The really sad part is that 1) the left and the right are fighting to make them selves heard by us so hard that they never stop long enough to actually listen to how we feel, and 2) the fighting between the left and the right leaves little time to fight for the country.

But our society has not changed all that much since the 1800's when Thoreau wrote in the first few pages of Walden,

"Most men, even in this comparatively free country, through mere ignorance and mistake, are so occupied with the factitious cares ad superfluously coarse labors of life that it's finer fruits cannot be plucked by them"

In other words, most people are just to damn tired to care, and today, the media makes a living stuffing what they want us to know down our throats because of it.

Now, I am going to get up from under this tree, get dressed, head out of the woods and go look for a bar.

Dang Al.........you put my worst fears in words.

I was more or less going along with your line of thinking there.......just didn't want to admit that the dumbing down of America was truly transpiring.
It's nice to see that I am not the only one that enjoyed reading what Henry David Thoreau
had to say.  :whew:

It's a sad day when someone has to digest information for you, then regurgitate it down your throat.............and somehow make you feel like it was your idea all along.

Excellent post Al.........bravo!!!!  :highclap:

Nicely said Al.It is amazing to see just how many stupid people there are in this country. It is not just people listening to the media.I know of some people thet will vote for the party insted of voting for the person with the same views.I will give you guys an example. One of my buddies owns a gunshop.During the last presidential election he voted for the anti gun cantidate.I later asked him why he did it.He replied that he was born and raised democrat and he would always vote democrat.I told him that he should vote for the man and what his beliefs are rather than voting for the party. He instantly said,I would never vote for a republican. So if the same guy would of been democrat he would of voted for him. This makes no sence to me.Why would i vote for someone that i completely disagree with? Why would i vote for someone that wanted to put me out of business?I dont understand and probally never will.
