Off and on, for the past few weeks, I've been experiencing troubles getting onto the net. When it first happened I could not access my local ISP number. I called AT&T/Bell South, my ISP.  They said the dial up number had been disconnected (?). This would be corrected ASAP. When the error was righted they would call me at home. That was around 4:00 pm, at 2:00 am they called back. The operator said the line was backup... I could get online now... thank you for using AT&T. How thoughtful!  :rolleye:
Well, late the next day I was able to connect to the relay computer but an error message popped up... My user account and password was invalid. Back on the phone again. After setting through 45 minutes of bad elevator music and canned advertisements (for their high speed DSL, which I'd love to have but is not in my area yet), I spoke to a real person. Explaining my problem, the lady was very nice but her broken English made it a challenge. Finally after several minutes and having her repeat the instructions the puzzle was solved. It seems ATT changed their login procedures that day, they just forgot to tell anyone.

Ok, everything's working now. I had just gotten back on line when an important Windows security update became available. I downloaded it. All most instantly I was getting knocked off line again. I could see the pages whenever I connected to FnF  but not log in, several security errors kept popping up. I know the board is safe, so it had to be something wrong on my end. After going through the computer's programs, I found the recent update had changed settings in internet explorer and corrupted several other files, including my firewall. I'm not very computer savvy but I was able to restore everything except some of the options on MS IE 7. I suspected my cookie settings had something to do with the problem but the internet toolbar options tab was deceased.  Luckily, I remembered our resident puter geek, Mr. Jim, talking about Firefox (a free web browser). Tonight I hit the Mozilla website, down loaded the program and dropped IE as my web browser. All I can say is WOW!!! Within a few minutes I was able to correct the problems. My machine even seems to be running faster now.  Hopefully the gremlins are laid to rest.  :laf:

Thank you Mr. Jim and Firefox  :highclap:

Born and raised in the southern highlands of Appalachia, I'm just an ol' country boy who enjoys calling coyotes... nothing more, nothing less.

That's ironically funny. I got about 3 quarters of the way through reading that Chet, and I was gonna quit and call you to tell you to lose that friggin Microsoft Internet Explorer and download a real browser like Firefox.
