As you guys know, I have had trouble distinguishing between dog tracks and coyote tracks.  While at Redbird weedwalker helped me by showing me some tracks that were definitely coyote.  But we also came upon these strange tracks that even he was not sure about . . .

Here the animal seems to be dragging it's feet????

And here . . .

So, you more experienced trackers, what kind of critter made these???

It seems like the animal was at a lope. And the only predator I know that sets all four in the same holes at that speed would be a bobcat. I can't see the bottoms of them so not really sure. But if it were a deer the front edges would be clean unless the snow was deeper. As you can see the front edges are dragged over as well also pointing to a smaller animal like a bob cat. Jimmie

I saw the same tracks in Southern Ohio last weekend.
I would almost bet Al was walking in front of you guys, they look like the same prints his shooting stick were leaving behind.Had me looking a few time at them!!!!!!!!!!
Hope this helps out.But if not , not really sure what tracks then.

Man,  I was sure hoping to get a little more mileage out of this thread.  Good "catch" there Caribou, I forgot about you hunting with Al last week.   :nono:

Here are the strange tracks.  You can see that we walked along side them trying to figure them out.  This critter, whatever it is, has a long loping stride.      :innocentwhistle:

Good to see you on the forum HBhowler!

Caribou,
Our group of 15 or so killed 5 coyotes over four days of hunting.  Al and I saw coyotes every day.  Here are some photos fp the kills . . .

HaMeR got this nice one!

This was the one Al and I called in.

This one was PAbrushwolf's.

And the one Jerry killed.  He is PAbrushwolf's friend from PA who is not on the forum.

I didn't get a photo of the other one.  If you look in the Predator Hunting section under LBL Hunt you will find lots of other photos from the Redbird hunt!!  Check it out, we had fun!

Usually F&F does an annual hunt at LBL in KY in early Feb.  We couldn't go there this year due to the bad ice storm they had so several of us got together near Pineville KY instead for few days of hunting the Redbird WMA as well as some other reclaimed strip mines in that area.  We had a great time and there seems to be lots of coyotes in that area.   I don't know of any other hunts being put together at this time.  I'm ready to go just about anytime I can find someone willing to put up with me.  I have to pee a lot, I guess???  Small bladder syndrome or something?  Ask Al, he'll tell you about it?
