Shot a coyote today........

Nick and I went out this AM and set up in an area where I know the dogs pretty well and I told him where I thought they would come from and boy did they come!!!!!!!!
I did a lone howl to start ........then Nick did a lone howl......
after that I hit the E-caller with fawn distress........about 5 seconds of that and here they come a running!!!!!!
I saw 2 of them right off but did nothing and let them pass so Nick could hopefully shoot one.
They saw my coyote decoy standing over my E-caller with a fawn decoy on top of the E- caller and sat down in the shade and began to Alarm bark.
All of a sudden another yote began to howl from higher on the hill and I saw the one sitting and barking and realized Nick could not see that one.
I took my safety off and put it on him and he turned and stood up and I shot a little far back.....as he humped up and ran I shot again...miss!!!! (200yd shot at first.)
then we ki yied and howled some to see what would happen but we were done.
We looked hard to find this dog but did not recover the animal

....... Still it was great getting out and called dogs on our first stand........

Had A Great Time Nick, we should go again soon!! .........

It's great that you got out and had some action Al. Next time try a hand call and maybe they won't do the alarm bark thingy.

It was good to hear you got out to do some huntin and called some in. If you can get them to come in it's still exciting even if you do........................

The first shot was a little off the second shot was a miss either way I called in several dogs on this stand and someone on here needs to post about actual hunting.....

My first stand in two weeks......did it my way and what do ya know......coyotes came.....Had a GREAT time!......

WTG Al! Good to see you are getting out. I've been out a few times too. Did you have a blood trail like at Redbird? I have been trying a few howls too at the beginning of stands. This morning we saw several small fawns. So I followed up the howls with fawn distress too, just like you did, but with less success. No response.

Jim I have to agree as there is nothing worse than a missleading title unless it is a miss by itself.

Cool deal Al!! Even tho you didn't put the fur down where you could find it, it sounds like it will be down anyhow.

We all want to recover them all but sometimes it's just don't happen. At least you got out to hunt em.
