Depressing hunt

Well I went a yoting four times in the past 8 days. I succeeded in hearing, seeing nothing. The brush was very high in any open field. Hunted in Croom, Richloam and Greenswamp and not a sign. No tracks, scat or or responses to rabbit and yote calls. Saw no deer, hogs, nutria, skunks or coons.

Sounds like an average hunt to me.

Keep at it. They will come.

Don't get down it took me 3 years before I called one in. Just keep hammering away and sooner or later you will hit pay dirt.

Don't feel bad, we spent about 8 hours in the woods yesterday and did not call one in either. We saw some fresh tracks, some old and new scatt, but no fur at all.

Sometimes this is a numbers game. The more stands you make, the better your chances become. I'll be back on them on Sunday, and if I get skunked I can always take a shower and try it again in a day or so,

No show days come with the game. I've blanked out tons of times. The good days are what make it all worth while and keep you coming back. Persistence, patients, and the right attitude will get you responses in the end.

Yep, that's all part of it.
Just like fishing......some times they bite sometimes they dont.

My grampa used to tell me I wasn't holding my mouth right. Have you tried altering that?

Don't give up Pilot. The anticipation is much more driving then harvest.

like the sayin goes some days a diamond some days a stone, it took me around a year or two to get my first.

Thank alot you guys. You built up my morale quite a bit. Wish I could get on private land but it's almost impossible. As i said in another post, clubs lease that land and membership cost is ridiculous.

do lots of leg work in the summertime knockin on doors getting to know a few farmers helpin em out fixin fence and stuff you would be amazed at how well that will open land up for ya

I don't know where you live, but if you do varmint hunting, groundhogs in my case, it will open up a lot of hunting ground.

Hi there V Varmint,
Live in Florida. No chucks here. Hunted them for over 5o years in upstate NY. Nailed them out to at least 200 yards with a Savage 340, 30-30 bolt action. !30 gr. spitzers or 110 gr spire ogive. Used to turn them inside out.
Went yoting yesterday and just before I got to the WMA, there on the side of road, two yotes were standing thumbing their nose at the cars whizzen by. Went in the back way thru the swamps and set up. Had no success in calling them in with mouth calls. When I set up my electronic call it would not work. Could not find out what the problem was in the field. It did work the previous night. Got home much later where I have test equipment and found a defective battery cintact in the receiver unit. Going out again on Thursday.
