Did you ever get a chance to play with that new Western Rivers DayStalker, ya won?

I've been anticipating a review, or did I miss it? Just wondering what you thought of it, good or bad.

Jim,

I have not yet taken it to the field. I have played with it some at the house, but have not tried it while hunting. It comes with a CD with a lot of cool sounds and it is easy to load/change the sounds. The max volume is very low and I doubt that I would be able to hear it from more than a couple of dozen yards if there was any wind or background noise. The remote is very small and light, but it has no display so if it was out beyond where it is audible there would be no way of knowing what, if any sound is playing. It also seems to be very hard on batteries, while playing with it at the house a set didn't last more than thirty minutes or so. I apologize for not posting something about it sooner, but since I haven't hunted with it I don't feel can really give it a fair evaluation yet.

Pat:
I own one and I had the same battery problem.........so I called the company and asked about it and found out it was my fault.
Even though the remote has an on/off button using this button only puts the unit asleep.

To turn off the unit you must first wake it up with the remote if it is asleep and then push and hold the of button on the unit itself....the display on the unit will read the words BYE BYE.....and then go blank ensuring the unit is now off.
My batteries now last about 12 hours at 2400mah rechargeable.

I have taken mine on 3 hunts so far calling a few coyotes on one stand and a red fox on another...one stand nothing showed.
I still prefer mouth calls as I always have, and have been using them more and leaving the caller behind.
I to think it is not loud enough for me but the yotes sometimes so far seem to hear it fine.
I would stay away from howling sounds on it or crow sounds as they break up and sound awful on this unit.
Fawn distress and such works well at lower volume but to reach out there......... it aint enough caller.

I was going to say, there was something posted about the battery deal a while back, and then I was trying to think of who and where.
Nice follow up Al.

And thanks Pat. I should ask Brian if there's been any issues or complaints about sound. Maybe thats just the way they are, maybe something is amuck with that particular unit.

I was thinking of playing with a different speaker to see if thats it or if its the unit ........I think the better quality sound you have would make a difference as well.
