I finally got my first coyote this afternoon!  We set up on a cow pasture, hunting an area where several landowners have been complaining about coyotes getting chickens, chasing dogs, and running across the roads.
We set up just inside some hardwoods overlooking a cow pasture. On the other side was a vacant lot of about 15 acres that we knew the coyotes were living in. There was a nice little rise in the middle of the pasture to where you could not see anything coming and on the right side of the pasture, a pond, and you could see 400yds to the other side.  And did I mention it was HOT!!! Oh My goodness was it hot, our clothes wet from the humid air, no breeze in site. Miserable.
We started with some rabbit distress calls about 15 minutes before dark. After no takers we let things get quiet for a while. Then we howled, just once. Then we waited again. Then, all of a sudden,  I saw a coyote top the rise. Having been trying for two years to call in my first coyote, I waited for a good oppurtunity to take my shot. The coyote was weaving back and forth right on the rise of the hill when my partner howled again. He stopped perfectly still about 200 yds. I shoot, and he drops. Then he gets up and sits, I shoot again, my partner shoots and I shoot again while he starts over the hill.
After several minutes and some KI-Yee calls, my partner and I  meet up. Talking softly about the shots. Suddenly, I saw one top the hill again, this time taking steady aim. Boom!! Thump!!! Nailed him.
We looked long and hard but never found the first coyote. But number 2 was laying right there, We did find blood on the impact of the first coyote but were unable to find more. I am very proud of my South Carolina Coyote.
Never-the-less, I am very happy about this guy.
