I have been asked to do a presentation on call making this Saturday and thought that I would show them how to get the parts assembled and what it could look like when finished.

Here are the three pieces of stock that I will be using for “props”.  The first is taped together since the three pieces are loose.  They have been set up with a mortise and tendon so they will see how to get a little stronger glue joint.  The second has already been glued and the bore drilled.  Then there is the one on the right that just sort of sits there thinking what the heck happened to me?

Here is a little better picture of the final product.  The center is from a piece of Cherry Burl (given to me by my gunsmith Mark Penrod) and the ends are Blackwood.  It felt pretty good to be turning a call again.

Very nice,Jerry. You make that toneboard? Sets the call off nicely.

Looks like you haven't forgotten how to make a call Mr. Jerry!  Very nice!  The folks on Saturday will be in for a real treat, and will be learning from a top notch call maker.

At the end of the demo are ya gona give that cal away to one of the lucky audience members?

Or wait, you might want to keep that call to go with the other two demo pieces in case ya do another presentation.

YEP!! That's the neatest thing about turning. You can purdy much tell what you got on a flat board project but the lathe will usually throw you a curve.  :eyebrow:
