I can open any links pasted in chat, but I cannot paste a link myself. I have tried both ways and it will copy but not paste. I have tried to paste a link in chat with nothing happening there only to paste the same link in skype without having to copy it again. I did paste a few links a while back but then something somewhere changed. I even asked our new geek (Barry) what i was doing wrong. He was immensely helpful,  :innocentwhistle: but even he couldn't solve the problem.
sometimes I wonder....is that getting closer..... then it hits me

I had a personal conflict the other day, now I'm not speaking to myself.... I'm getting lonesome

I met the girl of my dreams, I was the man of her dreams too.....she used the term "nightmares" though.

Thats not a chat glitch either. :laf:

Basically that linked worked but it went to two different places. If it dont work, it dont work....meaning it dont go anywhere.
The fact that it went to two different places at two different times means it was two different links.
In other words, somehow, someway, somewhere, the link was altered as it was either copied or pasted one of the two times. And the chat didn't do that.  :nono: hey that rhymed!

I never did anything different, I hit ctrl +V in chat and then again in the pm.
I say what I think not think what I say.

FinsnFur

You did something different because the chat does not render urls and alter them, it can't, it dont, it wont.
Where you place your cursor when you pasted could have even done it, which could add a space at the beginning or the end. Or even cut one of the letters out unknowingly. Which is actually very common.

This situation didnt require me to solve it. It was pretty much solved when someone said the link went to two different places. "the link went"...was all I needed to hear to place it in the user error category.

Has the chat been unpluged When I try to log in the screen goes blank. cc

FinsnFur

Nope, she's alive and well Carl. But that sounds like a misconfigured java application running on your computer. You can try rebooting it.

Jim, I went in to the Java Program and reset default but still not working. How do I reboot Java?

thanks Carl

FinsnFur

No Carl I meant restarting your computer.
On your computer, click the "Start" button (in Windows XP) or "Windows" button (in Vista) on the lower left corner of your screen. In the window that pops up, select the small arrow on the bottom right corner. Click "Restart." Your computer will immediately close all open programs, shut down and restart.

Thanks Jim, I have done the restart several times but Chat still not working, don't know what I have done but last night it went off on me while in chat and have not been able to bring it back up. I thought I had my computer cleaned up but something is still wrong, one thing I keep getting a message that one CPU is in High use near 100 %, what does that mean? I have done the Disc clean, deleted History, deleted Cache, Defrag, may have deleted something I should not have. Carl

FinsnFur

Ok, but chat is still working. Your computer isnt though.

High CPU usage typically means that you have a runaway process taking place. ( a misconfigured or malicious program running behind that scenes)

The easiest way to figure out which program is doing this, is to click "Ctrl" + Alt + Delete
It will throw up a window, and you click the "processes tab"
On the processes page look for one that has numbers flying by like the gas pump when your filling your car. It'll be in the CPU column.
Write down the name of the program, so you can bring it back and tell me.
Then highlight it by clicking on it, and then click "end process at the bottom.

Jim, I did that and the only that was doing somewhat like you said was (sidebar. exe  11832k windows ) I clicked end process and it remover sidebar but still cannot get into Chat. Carl

Carolina Coyote

I went back to the Process and clicked all users and there are a couple of program showing CPU usage of around 50%
System Idle CPU varies between 29% to 50 %
Mcciserviceio CPU varies between 29% 50 %
I also get Errow Loading Message when restarting ( C:\ Progrm-1\mywebs-1\bar\4.bin\F3scrctr.dll ) This Specified Module could not be found.
Could that have anything to do with it?

FinsnFur

F3scrctr.dll is not a windows file. But it is used for recording and monitoring...by whoever put it there. Which makes me think you have spyware running on your machine now.

Which stems back to this post: http://forum.finsandfur.net/index.php?topic=14281.msg165085#msg165085  where I asked if you were running any anti virus software and you said yes. Actually you said you had, but you didnt confirmed it was up to date and running.
Seeing the word Norton on a computer doesn't necessarily mean that Norton is running on it. Virus's and malicious programs can disguise themselves as anything they want. And your F3scrctr.dll file is a good example. Malicious users will hide that in your windows directory and use it for something else.

I've said this a million times to over a hundred people. Anti-virus software is as useless as tits on a bull if it's not kept up to date and running constantly.

Oh well I dont look at porn I only go to hunting sites.
It doesn't matter. If your online your more prone to be attacked if your not running some protection. Just because you know how to swim doesnt mean you cant drowned.

When you asked about the Anti-Virus and I said I had it on my computer which is Norton, I pay a fee every year to them and they send a notice when they have an update and I run the update so I thought I was updated but I got to checking and run a scan that showed they was a later up date but when I tried to run it I could not get it to work so I called them and spent about an hour on the phone and
on the Computer with them while they Downloaded the latest version and installed it on my computer it is set up for Automatic scans so I am assuming that it is running all the time. I don't go to Porn site or any other Chat sites or anything that I suspect could give me a Virus. The F3scrctr.dll if it is not a Windows how do I find and delete it. Thanks for trying to help me out cc

Carolina Coyote

Jim,This is strange that the chat seems to be the only thing not working, everything else seems to be working, when I try to log into Chat it lets me put in my user name and then it blinks out, Crazy? cc

FinsnFur

You read through my reply too fast Carl, you missed the jest.  <---- Rhyme!  :eyebrownod: Well almost.

I said you do not have to go to a porn site to get a virus. I repeat, you do not :nono:
You can actually get a virus reading this thread, why... because your online and the world can see your computer.
With out protection, again I say without protection, your vulnerable if your online, anywhere, anytime.

and...
There's several ways that you can remove the F3scrctr.dll on your computer if it was not put there by legitimate software.  I repeat...if it was not put there by legitimate software.
But I dont think your going to be able to tell yourself. And I'm not comfortable trying to walk you through something I'm not sure your capable of.
The best thing would be to search that file on Nortons site, and go from there.
