Carl
I use firefox and I have gotten the black screen I have seen the Java thing and then get the box to sign in then never get the password box I have also signed in seen the chat room and what was being said there but never showed where I joined chat and I couldn't join in the conversation but anytime I had trouble I would just click the back arrow and log in the 2nd time and go right in I always figured it was my computer not loading the chat room right since I could get in on the 2nd attempt

Without actually being there and seeing whats happening, those both sound like out of date java applications.
As far as changing the browser fixing things, I'm pretty sure thats going to be a temporary solution, because all your really doing by switching browsers is starting with a cleared java console. Even that's on a whim, but you can clear your console with out switching browsers.

Carl, I love you man....but I have a sneaking hunch your issues are far from over, and every day that goes by, these problems dig their claws in deeper. Were gonna be discussing your machine again.  :eyebrownod:

I have checked the installed Java and it says that I have the latest version and I deleted the older versions the last time we talked about that, What is console and how do I clear it, I know I ask a lot of stupid questions but I am not a Computer Doctor but a Patient and trying to learn, The question I asked about Firefox was did you think there could be a problem in Firefox that was causing the problem. If you don't want to answer these questions just say so and I will quit asking. But Chat is the only place that is causing problems right now.  Thanks Carl

FinsnFur

Ok, then your particular problem may not be caused by Java itself, Carl. And like I said, without actually being there to see what is happening, this is very very hard for me to diagnose.

Short of hoppin in the truck and driving to South Carolina to set down and repair your computer, I'm answering your questions the best I can. I really am.  :laf: :laf: And I dont have a problem answering them. But you have to understand my position also. I'm not responsible for offering Windows technical support. I cannot be made out as the bad guy here for this.

I do not know if Firefox is causing your problems or not. I dont have enough information to even begin to make that assumption. What worries me the most here is still the fact that it sounded like your machine has internal issues with security. You seem to go through these high's and lows on a regular basis.

Which makes trying to repair this for you kind of like talking a guy threw applying a Bandaid to his arm while he stands in an open field taking on machine gun fire from all directions. :laf: You know what I'm saying?

Did you go to Nortons site and search Nortons site for the file you spoke of yesterday, like I suggested?
Do you know how to look at Norton and be sure that it's actually running and protecting your machine?
Has there ever been a full system scan done on your machine since you found out you were not protected by Norton?

Here's a link that will explain how to clear your java console. IF you even have access to yours, but I think your problems go far beyond this.

Jim, I'm not sure, but I think I did update my Java about the time I discovered I couldn't put up a link in chat. Today, while showing a friend the chat, I was using Internet Explorer and it said I needed to enable Java, but it was already enabled. I tried installing the latest version of Java but got the same message. Then I opened it with Firefox. Chat started like normal then put a message up saying this application was designed for an older version of Java, would  I like to continue? I clicked OK and it opened chat like it always does. I guess what I'm trying to say is you were right, it must be Java causing the problems.
sometimes I wonder....is that getting closer..... then it hits me

I had a personal conflict the other day, now I'm not speaking to myself.... I'm getting lonesome

I met the girl of my dreams, I was the man of her dreams too.....she used the term "nightmares" though.

Application was designed for an older version of Java?
Wow  That is definitely a new one.

You should bring something to put the bullet in too. Unless you just plan on throwing it.

You think it blows your mind, I am not kidding I have done everything I know to do and it still will not work with FireFox but it will on I/E, I have removed Java, FireFox, and reloaded them, run full anti-virus scans, disc Clean, you name it, I did find the errow program in Norton, its is in the startup section and is a Screensaver program but I have not been able to remove it so Hell fire jump in your truck and come on down we will go down to Georgia and call up some Coyotes .  :eyebrownod: cc
