I read where Cooper Arms supports osama this evening. It was in the USA Today. Here is the rest of the story per Coopers website.

USA Today article.
WASHINGTON — Dan Cooper, a proud member of the National Rifle Association, has backed Republicans for most of his life. He's the chief executive of Cooper Arms, a small Montana company that makes hunting rifles.

Cooper said he voted for George W. Bush in 2000, having voted in past elections for every Republican presidential nominee back to Richard Nixon. In October 1992, he presented a specially made rifle to the first President. Bush during a Billings campaign event.

This year, Cooper has given $3,300 to the campaign of Democrat Barack Obama. That's on top of the $1,000 check he wrote to Obama's U.S. Senate campaign in 2004, after he was dazzled by Obama's speech at that year's Democratic National Convention.

Cooper is a player in one of the little-told dramas of the 2008 presidential campaign: how Obama has been able to out-raise Republican John McCain among swaths of the business community, outperforming previous Democratic presidential nominees in drawing business support.

QuoteRegarding the USA Today Article. Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc. did not contribute and does not support in any fashion the campaign of Senator Obama.

I'd also like to know the truth of this.

From what I've read on other boards, plus the news article and the statement on the Cooper site, my guess is that Cooper personally gave to Obama, but technically the company can say that they did not give to him as a company.  I'll bet that the statement on their site is a scramble to try to reduce the damage his contribution to Obama has done.  He has pulled a Zumbo and the storm is just starting.   But that's just guess.  Cooper has a reputation for liking to be controversial and nonconformist and to shock people sometimes.  He may have misjudged how much shock and backlash this could cause his company. I don't know the man personally but would not buy a rifle nor anything else from him if this turns out to be true.

Checking around the web, searches of donor records show repeated donations from Cooper to Obama and none to McCain, so the Cooper web site appears to be lying.  Just heard a few minutes ago that now Cooper has pulled their statement off of their web site, the one that explained Cooper's donations to Obama and claimed that he donated also to
McCain.

Incidentally, Obama's voting record as an Illinois state politician indicates that he would be the most anti-gun President ever.

KySongDog

That is unbelievable.  Obama is THE MOST anti gun person in the entire senate.  How Cooper could rationalize contributing to that socialist's campaign boggles my mind.   :rolleye:

Unbelievable:  :argh: What a ----head That's totally un American. cc

Now on coopers site

The employees, shareholders and board of directors of Cooper Firearms of Montana do not share the personal political views of Dan Cooper.

Although we all believe everyone has a right to vote and donate as they see fit, it has become apparent that the fallout may affect more than just Mr. Cooper.  It may also affect the employees and the shareholders of Cooper Firearms.

The board of directors has asked Mr. Cooper to resign as President of Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc.

Daily operations will continue with the competent staff currently in place in Stevensville, MT producing the finest, most accurate rifles money can buy.

Dan Cooper has spentall of his working life producing the highest quality rifles built here in the USA.  He started with nothing but the American Dream and built that into firearms company anyone would be proud of.  We firmly believe Dan stands by the2nd amendment.
We wish him all of the best in his future pursuits.

In response to the recent article highlighting Dan Cooper's personal political donations, the board of directors, shareholders and employees of Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc would like to issue the following statement.

Smart move on their behalf.  Hopefully that'll spare the company.  :whew:

I'm just dumbfounded!  What is Cooper thinking?
Apparently he thinks other issues are more important than our constitutional  right to bare arms.

"It's a really McCarthyism at its worst," said Bob Ricker, executive director of the American Hunters and Shooters Association, which has endorsed Obama. "That's really why our organization was formed, was to deal with this craziness. If you're a gun owner, but you have a contrary view to some of these wackos, they will go out and try to destroy you."

The "craziness" of supporting the 2nd amendment?  :argh:

So we're "wackos?"  :iroll:

KySongDog

The American Hunters and Shooters Association is a political front for the anti gunners and Obama supporters!!!!!   Don't believe anything they say.  It is a Trojan horse, a wolf in sheep's clothing.

They advocate elite hunting like in England where the rich dudes hunt behind high fences.   They would have us leaving our guns locked at the local "shooting club", licensed and if ya want to shoot, ya have to check them out, use the gun on site and leave it there when you are done.

Here is some of the garbage from their website:

"I have been campaigning in battleground states, including Ohio, Minnesota, Florida and Colorado for Barack Obama this fall.  I know first-hand that gun owners are voting for Obama. They know their gun rights are secure.  And they want a president who won't take their guns AND will focus on the economy and their jobs.  It's beyond appalling that hard-core gun activists would destroy the economic livelihood of a guy like Dan Cooper.  John McCain should be ashamed that his supporters have harmed a small business owner for political reasons.  That should never happen in the America.

Last year we witnessed what happened to prominent outdoor writer and commentator Jim Zumbo when he dared take a position contrary to NRA policy.  Now they are trying to do the same to Dan Cooper."

Notice that they are highly critical of the NRA.  Their agenda is to divide and conquer gun owners!!!

The NRA is the only organization with the membership and money to protect our gun rights.   Join the NRA!  I am a Benefactor Life member and proud of it.

You got that right Semp,
Check here for a Fact Sheet on the American Hunters and Shooters Association published by the National Shooting Sports Foundation  http://www.nssf.org/share/pdf/AHSA_Fact_Sheet.pdf  .  Don't let these guys fool you.  Most of their board members and officers are big doners to Handgun Contol, Inc. and other anti firearms groups.
They ran radio adds here in WV by their president Ray Schoenke.  When he said his name on the add it sounded like he was saying Ray Shockey.  The first time I heard it I thought it was Jim Shockey, the muzzleloader hunter from the Outdoor channel.  The add went on to say that both McCain and Obama supported our 2nd Ammendment rights then went on to blast McCain for several other things.  The bad thing about this is that lots of union members and other hunters and shooters who don't do their research into something like this will believe it.  Since their union and working friends are so anti McCain they are just looking for a reason to vote Obama.  The gun issue is the only thing that keeps them from doing so.  Now this group comes along with their tricky adds and makes some of these people think it's OK to vote for Obama.
Just Google them and you will learn quickly what they are really all about!
