Rick223 and I were out on the Wisconsin River fishing last weekend. The Wisconsin River is actually a tributary of the Mississippi River.
It's the states longest river at over 430 miles long and courses it's way through some of Wisconsin's deepest backwater swamplands. It harbors some very secluded areas and holds some awesome small mouth bass. It's also Wisconsin's deadliest river. Known for it's constantly changing bottom, deep pockets, sand bar shelves, and swift current. In fact there is no swimming allowed south of the midstate point.

Anyway.....While we were out there we stumbled upon an old homestead on one of the secluded islands. I have no idea how long the place has been there or even if it's even used anymore. It looks like someone did some recent work on the chimney though.

The odd thing is, this sorta thing is extremely unheard of and illegal on the Wisconsin River, and you can't own an island on it.

We got closer for some pics, and the closer we got the creepier it looked. Especially in the middle of no where, literally. Well, you no where no where is?...this place was like 15 miles deeper then that yet.

Rick gets pissed off cause I take pictures of anything that steps in front me. :laf:  He's running the boat always looking over and saying, What in the hell you taking a picture of now, as he looks around for the target. :laf:

While we were drifting by this place and I was snapping pics, he says, "what would you do if some freak came running out of there screaming and flailing a hatchet as he ran towards us?"

I started laughing and said, What do you think I'd do? I'd take his picture as I yelled to you to get us the hell out of here!"

Yeah we already thought of that. Were going to wait until around 1:00am to go do it in hopes no one will be home. Then we can paddle through the darkness and make our way ashore with little key fob lights.

Maybe it wasn't an island when they built it.  Maybe it was on the main land back then.

Those are the kind neat places to look around, and ya can find a lot of neat stuff in the ground around them too. (Maybe even a body the hatchet murder left behind)  :alscalls:

Old home places can be neat... especially when they come with their own spooks.  :shock2:
Please visit our ol' buddies over at: http://www.easterncoyotes.com

Born and raised in the southern highlands of Appalachia, I'm just an ol' country boy who enjoys calling coyotes... nothing more, nothing less.

that's neat as all heck, I'd check it out.  The chimney does look up to snuff.  Looks like a nice place to stay the weekend and fish.

The river looks muddy enough to hide a body - or two.
When they come for mine they better bring theirs

Did ya noticed any paths or walk ways through the grass ?
What do ya think that "bucket" or container is on the side of the house?
Water collection?

That was my thought as well.  Just go hide in the grass and watch out for arrows.   :rolleye:   Looks too nice to be a meth lab.

What's the chances the river changed it's course? I know the Mississippi has done it. There is actually a part of Illinois that is in Missouri if memory serves me correctly. They have to cross the river to get into that little patch.

Your pictures were good.  :congrats:

I spose that could be possible

I'd think though that if the place was on legitimate land at one time and an actual homestead, there'd be other things in the yard etc.

Probably right. Could have been a few west virginny boys come through and took the rest of the stuff to build a cabin.  :laf:

That one fella in the picture definitely had a bunch of W. Virginian in him.  :nono:
