I found a dead doe yesterday at a farm I hunt. Was lying next to an old pond.  The blue tongue has hit all over KY.  Hundreds of deer have died.  Worst outbreak in 30 years they say.  Its not supposed to be contagious but who knows for sure.  Anyone know anything about this?

I went to the KY Fish and Wildlife website and found this article.

Over 700 dead deer in West KY.  They say it is caused by Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) and is spread by midges.

The first frost should knock it out, I hope.

Stu, yep, the coyotes have PLENTY to eat right now.

Yep it's hitting all over, even in Europe. Caused by gnat bites ( in Europe they call them midges ) ,makes their tongue, head and such swell up,supposedly not transferable from animal to animal, have to be bitten by a gnat that carries that virus. Multi stomach animals such as deer, cows, goats, ect. are the ones it effect, With the lack of water gnats are bad especially around stagnate water holes. They,( who ever THEY are ) say it doesn't effect humans and that the first good frost will stop it by killing the gnats.

It has hit 12 counties in Ohio too
