Hey guys, I just wanted to let everyone know. My wife went to the emergency room yesterday for wht she thought was kidney stones. As it turns out she does have a huge kidney stone they are going to have to remove. In the process of testing and doing an ultrasound, they found a large mass on her right ovary. They have ran several more tests, and she has a 6" diameter tumor growing on her right ovary. It has to be removed along with the ovary. They aren't sure yet what it is, but the ultrasound shows it to be a solid mass tumor. It could either be a benign tumor or cancer. When she had our youngest daughter a year ago, there wasn't anything wrong with her ovary. The rate at which it has grown has the doctors very concerned it may be cancer. This is a major tumor to develop and grow to this size in only a year. She's having the kidney stone removed this afternoon and will have the tumor removed within the week. They can't remove both at the same time, but they hacve to put her to sleep to do each one. The doctors don't want to put her under twice too close together to prevent other complications. To say we are a little freaked out and frazzled at this point is an understatement. She's only 29 years old, and is undergoing a partial histerectomy. I have internet access in the hospital, so I will keep everyone updated on what is going on. I would appreciate everyone keeping us in their prayers. Maybe one of these days, we can have a hospital free year. Chloe has fully recovered from her eye injury and starts kindergarten on Monday, and Emma, our youngest daughter, just turned 1 year old on the 5 of Aug.
Well the first part is over. The kidney stone was removed successfully and a stent was put in place to allow her kidney to drain properly. Her kidney was swollen twice the normal size. The doctor removed all of the stone and is sending it off for testing. If they can figure out what is made of, they can help prevent future stones from forming. She gets to go home this afternoon. She has to come back on Monday for a full work up by her OB/GYN, and he will schedule the tumor removal. I'll keep everyone updated on how that goes. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers guys. Your wife and all of your family will be in my prayers. Kidney stones are no fun, but the tumor would also cause concern. At least they found it early. Chloe starts kindergarten on Monday - WOW. I always loved the first few days of school when the little ones would come in. I would start my day on the playground with them and then after the bell rang and the kids went in, I would stand and talk with the crying parents for about a half hour. It is a big first step as they start off to school. I hope she has fun.

Thanks guys. I'm just about ready to pull out my hair, at least what little I have left, with all of the medical problems we've dealt with this year. We just dealt with the exact same thing the end of last year with my grandmother. Her's wasn't found early and had spread though out her entire abdomen. She is doing ok now, but the chemo treatments are taking their toll on her. This is the reason we are so concerned. It's like we are reliving it all over again.

Brian, really sorry to hear that about your wife! That's tough news. After several years of problems, my wife had a hysterectomy four years ago too. There's not much a guy can say to make it better. Stay strong for her and the girls. Our family will be praying for yours. Keep us posted. Let me know if there's anything we can do.

I'm truly sorry to hear your news partner. It honest and truly is a shame that such bad things happen to truly good people. I don't know you or your wife but I do know what it's like to truly care about someone. My wife is 28 and we're currently trying to get pregnant. It breaks my heart to think about something happening to her. She is my life. My wife and I will pray that the test results come back benign. But if they don't, rest assured that the lord works in mysterious ways man, and that you WILL have prayers from my family.
If there is anything you need man, anything at all just say the word and it's done. Keep us updated!

Thanks guys. We've had a hell of a year. My garndmother had ovarian cancer the end of last year, my nephew almost broke his neck on his first birthday, Chloe's eye injury and now this. Man it makes it really hard to keep going. It definitely tests your faith. Everything happens for a reason, and we will get through this as well.
Joey, I know what you mean. Thankfully we have all the children we can handle. I couldn't imagine dealing with this while trying to have kids. We've also decided if there is a greater risk of another tumor forming on her other ovary, we want them to do a full histerectomy. I don't want her to have to deal with this again. She's scared to death of what this tumor could be and of not getting to see the girls grow up. Everyone is trying to keep her thinking positive, but that only goes so far until they know what it actually is.

Sounds like ya'll have been doing that and have had some success. It's good to hear your daughter is doing well and that the kidney stone operation went well.
Keep the faith and stay strong my friend. Hold tight to your family and your wife. Not knowing always has us thinking the worst, but we will pray the tumor is benign. There has been a lot of progress and success in this area of medicine over the last few years. My ex went through a bout with breast cancer a few years ago, but it has not returned [praise God]. Just recently she had to have a hysterectomy and a tumor of similar size removed. It was benign, though kind of amazing how a tumor could get that big that fast without being detected as she has been having regular visits to the doctors and regular tests ever since the breast cancer.

Thanks guys. She went through her tests yesterday. The doctor seems to think it is some type of cyst. He studied the ultrasound scans closer, and the tumor isn't completely solid as he first thought. It has quite a bit of fluid filled areas, which is more consistant with a cyst than a cancerous tumor. Her surgery is scheduled for Friday morning.
The crappy part of this situation is, her company islaying her off because she is having surgery. Her last day is Thursday. She's is missing the FMLA cut by about 3 weeks. They told her she couold reapply when she is ready to come back to work, and if the position is still available, she could have it back. Nothing like working for someone that doesn't stand behind their managers.

You know what gets me,,in Japan they bend over BACKWARDS to keep their employees Happy,,the Place my Ex Wife works bends over Backwards to keep the Employees happy,,where my Ex works is Union,,and EVERY TIME the Contract comes up the Company comes in with a NEW Contract that TOTALLY blows away what the Union even wanted so they sign on the FIRST Proposal,,AND they give each Employee a $500-$1000 signing Bonus for accepting the FIRST Proposal,,this Place takes Applications ONE time a Year,and when that day comes there are LONG lines of People to just fill out an Application for this Place !!! :wo:

I don't think the company can lay your wife off because of her surgery. They can't punish her for using the medical plan. I am assuming here that she has been at her job for more than few months and is not brand new. Contact the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) and file a complaint. Your wife's company WILL respond !

Hey guys. I wanted to take a little time to give you all an update on my wife. She went in for surgery at 8am this morning. The surgery was supposed to last about 1 hour. After 2 hours, we got the worst possible news we could have. It is cancer, and it's attached to everything in her abdomen. The good news is, it was only attached to the membranes surrounding the organs. It had not actually invaded them yet. The doctors were able to remove all of it. The bad news is, it was inside her colon. They had to remove a little more than half of it, but they were able to reattach the ends together so it will function. 6 and a half hours later, she was finally out of surgery. They aren't really sure what they are actually dealing with yet. All they know is, it is cancer. Once the results come back, we will know what it is, and what we can do. Right now, it appears to be 2 different types of cancer. Most of it is ovarian, but they are thinking what was in the colon is actually colon cancer. Her doctor told me, with tears rolling down his face, he never thought in a million years he would tell me, my 29 year old wife has cancer. He is in shock as much as we are. He also said, he has never seen cancer this aggresive. She hasn't shown any signs of having cancer, and it took a kidney stone to find it. If it hadn't been for the kidney stone, once she started having symptoms, there wouldn't have been anything they could have done but make her comfortable. The cancer is the reason she was having kidney stones so often. It had wrapped itself around the ureter and caused the kidney to back up, and that's what caused the stones to form.
She seems to be doing ok. She's just in a lot of pain, but she came through the surgery like a champion. He said, she didn't give them one reason to be concerned with handling the surgery. Once she heals some from the surgery, we will discuss step 2, which will entail some form of chemotherapy.
The really rough part was, she didn't know anything that transpired. Once she came out of it enough, I had to tell her everything. I will tell you guys. I've never experienced anything that tough before. Even having to deal with Chloe's eye injury wasn't this hard. I don't ever want to have to experience that again. I'm sitting in the hospital room trying t put all this in perspective, and I'm still in shock and a daze. I'm at such a loss right now. I'm not sure where to even start. I guess we will just have to take it one day at a time, and go from there. Thanks for being there and listening guys. I appreciate it more than you could imagine. I will keep ya updated.

Thanks guys. Luckily our kids are to young to really understand what is going on. Chloe still thinks they removed "rocks" from her mommy's tummy. We went htrough this same exact thing the first of the year with my grandmother, and Chloe will just now look at her without crying. To protect her for now, she won't know any different than they removed "rocks". I can't have her that upset right now. It's hard enough as it is. I didn't realize how easily a grown man could be brought to tears, but believe me, I've had my share flowing today.
I talked to her doctor a little bit ago. He said he didn't see any reason to suspect it had entered her lymph nodes. As a precaution, they removed all of them that were near the tumors. He feels very confident she'll get through this and live 40 -50 more years. We'll just take it one day at a time and get through this.

Dear Brian: It is quite obvious that God has His hand on your family & I've read plenty to be rejoicing in Him. This could have been way worse. Know this: that He has been faithful to you & your family & has no intensions whatsoever to turn aside from you. You are in a wonderful position now to watch the Hand of God work on your behalf. As God told the patriarches. "Be strong & of good courage." That is the thing I believe He would tell you now.

Thanks for everything guys. I have to tell you. Today Laura is looking like my best friend again. Her color has returned as well as some of her sense of humor. She's made a tremendous bounce back. Even the doctors and nurses can't believe how well she is doing. To say my spirits have been lifted and my faith has been restored is an understatement. Laura and myself want to thank all of you for being there for us, and having us as a part of the FnF family. It helps so much just knowing you guys are here for us.

I profusely apologize for not responding to this thread sooner Brian. I just didn't get a chance to read it. I hope all is well with your wife and family now. I completely understand what you are all going through. My wife has had numerous bouts with cancer in the last two years. First a bit of skin cancer, then a bit of ovarian. Just when we think she is free and clear she goes in for a check up and more is found after her hysterectomy. She underwent laser treatment for six weeks and her last check up was good. She does not have to see the Dr. for another two months for another checkup. Hopefully her next is good as well.
Anyway, I'm glad everyting has worked out for you and your family. I hope you all stay healthy,

Heys guys, we got the pathology report this afternoon. Laura's lymph nodes are 100% clean, but her liver came back positive. The doctor said this doesn't change anything as far as her outcome or chemo treatment. He talked to the oncologist and he said the type of ovarian cancer she has is 100% treatable. It is epithelial adno carcinoma which is the easiest type of cancer to treat. We're keeping our heads high and trying to stay positive. She's ready to fight this to the end, and I'm ready to fight with her.

Thanks guys. Most liver cancer is incurable. It usually ends in transplant, but the type of cancer she has supposedly responds very well even in the liver. I can only hope so. She's scared to death she isn't gonna get to see the girls grow up, but she isn't pitying herself. She's just ready to get the treatment started.

If it is fibrolamellar carcinoma, the prognosis is very good especially if there is a lack of cirrhosis. It responds to treatment much better than normal liver cancer. Never give up hope.

She's handled solid food really well and is getting around with less problems. She really perked up when she heard that. She's feeling much better. The pain has really eased up. I have been following this thread and I have to admit, I didn't know what to say to anybody. I am a natural born big mouth, but when it comes to real serious things I take a long time to mull them over in my mind. When I first read your situation, all I could think was the worst, so I didn't post for fear of discouraging you or your family. This thing hit very close to home and I was sick to my stomach for y'all. I guess you can count me in the category as one of those "ye of little faith". I apologize for that. I should have just encouraged ya and prayed for ya.
Having said all that, all I can say now is "HALLELUJAH!!!". I do believe your wife is on the mend. I'm so thrilled for you. It's been a tough year for you, but your coming through it. :congrats:

Hey guys, Laura is feeling better now that she is home. The doctor took her staples out on Friday morning, all 109 of them. A little to soon, I think. She's seemed to perk up more since the girls are home, and Chloe is running around like little miss nurse trying to take care of her. It's funny and sweet. Thanks for everything guys.
