Anyone see the special on TV the other day talking about the mite epidemic in Yellowstone wiping out wildlife?
I tried searching for some more info on it, and cant seem to find anything recent.

I saw that!  I was thinking those were the mites that cause mange but they never actually came out and said that?

You can't kill 'em from the recliner!!

Hawks Feather

Didn't see it, but if it wipes out wildlife there it would not be good.

Well that's a fine kettle of fish.  :pout:   We are planning a trip to Yellowstone next year and now there won't be anything to see except the geysers.

Actually by the sounds of it those geysers are more dangerous then the mites right now. In fact some think those unground volcanoes are going to be our demise.

Semp, if this I your first trip up there your in for a surprise.  We enjoyed it so much that I really didn't want to leave and now can't wait to get back.
When they come for mine they better bring theirs

Yep, first trip, John.   It's on our "bucket list" and we are looking forward to it.

We really enjoyed it too. Loved goin through the Tetons too. We stayed there a couple days,
then West Yellowstone one night, then outside east Yellowstone the rest of the time.
I would like to ride my bike there, but not not sure I'd have enough time to do it this year.

My favorite vacations. We went in '95 liked it so much we went back in '97 and '99. Would have gone some more but the wife wanted to go somewhere else. ( I do like the cruses)
We liked camping in Norris campground. It's the west central campground with a creek to fish in and watch the wildlife in the field to the south or watch the elk walk through the camp sites at dusk. It is just east of West Yellowstone which also had a great fly fishing shop/guide shop. (free lessons if you never tried it)
Being in the center makes traveling the north and south loops a shorter drive time compared to starting the day all the way south or north.
Get on their website and keep up with what is going on as far as road work and many other things to make your trip easier and more fun.

Just an fyi, Norris has five faults converging there so you make feel a little shaking.   We only did one night and thought it might be a bear or some critter until we talked to a ranger.

Have not seen any mites...the only thing that needs to go is the wolf's. And some of the tourist that can't drive.
