I have been using satellite imagery for hunting and fishing  for many years and find them incredibly handy especially when scouting out new terrain.  These pictures are of my number one favorite turkey hunting spot, I have shot a truckload of turkeys out of the field,  along with various other game animals.

The first/second picture the little red X marks where we sit in the tree line.

The third picture the red X marks a game crossing trail where everything from turkeys to moose cross the fields and enter into an old logging road inside the wood line.  Perfect place to set up for an ambush. Place is crawling with bears!

I also have been using satellite photos for a good number of years. They can show things that can't be seen otherwise and are very useful. You do need to get boots on the ground to check the details, as not everything shows up in photos. Have seen areas that looked good, but didn't pan out as expected. Still a good tool.

WOW you could walk all over southeastern Arizona and not see a tenth of that many trees.  So tell me how do you download satellite photos?
When they come for mine they better bring theirs

Theres a few, like google earth, I use this one, just type in the location. If you scroll in close you can see peoples cars, porches, etc.  as far as trees that is known as the Connecticut River Valley with a lot of big farmlands. Get out of the valley and it's almost 100% trees with no fields at all.

I have been using onX Hunt app on my phone for a few years now. I originally got it to see approximate property lines when I worked for the power company. That way if I had a proposed route for a power line, I could get a feel for who owned what property. I still pay the $29/year just to have it because it is so handy.

Here is one of my properties. The red Xs are actual corners compared to the lines on the map. Close enough. It also has acreages off a little too. It shows my plot being 81 acres but it was surveyed at just a smidgen over 100 acres.

Dang thats pretty, cool,  might have to look into it  although being a thrifty New Englander I might have to squeeze the $29 out of me

Maybe my platinum member stipend could cover it?  :innocentwhistle:

I use Google Earth before hunting a new property too. It's a great tool. Those are some nice looking hunting grounds you have!

As much as I enjoy waiting for that Tom to cover 100yds over an open field,, to me,, there's nothing finer than watching him come thru 50yds of timber instead.

Jockey Hollow & Egypt Valley here in Easter Ohio are 2 of my favorites.

At that spot you never know where they're coming from. I've had them in front of me behind me beside me. Nothing like having a big Tom turkey stand 10 feet behind you putting at you ha ha. 🦃🦃.  During the spring hunt you can hear partridge drumming all over the place.

HaMeR

That makes it fun too. I've had them walk up from behind & gobble at 25yds. Damn are they loud!!

Absolutely!  I get more excited over a big gobbler than deer any day but when they come in behind you and gobble...

When I started turkey hunting my turkey hunting went way up and my deer hunting went way down

HaMeR

I agree with you both!!

I had a Jake walking back & forth on a limb gobbling one morning. I watched him over my shoulder from about 45yds away. He flew down on the gas line & walked right onto the property I was set up on right up to the hen decoy.  I let him walk at 6:19AM on opening morning. I take Jakes at the end of the season if I want one bad enough. What a rush tho!!

I enjoy hunting them right in the thick woods more than the fields seem to get closer shots and more exciting.  However if there are some big boys struttin  out in a field then to the field I shall go!  I don't usually use decoys or a blind either I go after them bareback style  :innocentwhistle: 🦃🦃🦃🦃

I do enjoy a nice dry blind when it is pouring out though!

HaMeR

I'm not above heading to the fields either. I try to stay back in the woods about 10yds tho where the cover is a little better.

When it's raining I put a shooting stick in with my chairblind and just crack it open a smidge to see. I stay dry enough.

After one cold brutal wet spring almost freezing to death multiple times I made one of my best purchases ever for hunting and fishing I bought a full set of camouflage rain gear  one of the best investment I ever made .  Whether I am in the woods or the edge of the field I always try to make a quick field blind using branches leaves etc. to blend in.

nastygunz

Speaking of high tech game cameras are not just for deer anymore a lot of guys are using them to pattern turkeys.

I got introduced to this one a couple weeks ago and I'm not sure how I like it yet. Im still clumsy with it, but wanted to try it for marking locations on the water and finding openings in the backwater sloughs of the Mississippi. It's super handy for searching things, I have noticed. Such an unknown access.

I still prune to make hides too and I have good rain gear. Sometimes it's nice to just set in a chair once in a while.

Rain gear for hunting. The best thing I EVER did for rain gear was buy a set of those paper thin DriDucks rain wear. Like FroggToggs. I put those on UNDER my camo and take off. Camo clothes are soaked clear thru & dripping while I stay warm & dry but not overheated. I also carry a parka in my vest & pull it over me when the rain whips up quick. Set on a cushion, pull my legs up, pull my head inside the parka if it's storming. Oh the dryness I get to experience.  :yoyo:
