Title: Buddy of mine
Post by: Yotehntr on June 10, 2021, 02:16:21 PM
Buddy of mine is trying to start a youtube "how to" for beginner fishermen. He's just starting out doing the video's (I'm not sure how to post them other than a link) What do ya'll think? Pretty good or don't quit your day job?

Probably a fairly decent start, but he sure does need some polish.  If he has a boat I would suggest he use it and maybe skip fishing from shore.  Also needs to keep that bracelet at home, turning his wrist green.  He may want to keep his day job a bit longer or work part-time.

I asked him why he didn't use his boat, he said it was for folks just starting out... (wonder how long that'll last! lol) On the polish, that's the same thing I told him. He said the intro took 3 try's 1st time I can't remember then a fly landed on the lens (sent him into a cussing spree) I told him if he doesn't cuss that stuff could be a form of entertainment along the way. He used to keep me in stitch's with hunting stories, he has the worst luck.

Yah that was a bit rough to get through. He's having fun, thats the main thing.
The background noise had me reaching for my volume knob...then I started losing the sound of his voice.
I'm not sure I ever seen anyone ever use a closed face reel for casting a lure, but he did say minimal equipment.  :laf:
All in all...it's a start. You gotta start somewhere.

I use a close faced reel, my Zebco Bullet!

I noticed the background noise too… wonder maybe a directional mic might fix that?

Might think about doing his intro indoors in a quiet location then move out for the actual fishing.

I've thrown my whole tackle box with a Johnson Century on a 5 1/2' steel pool when I was younger. I just knew nobody had better equipment on the water than I did!! Until I got my 1st job and started looking thru the fishing dept at the local Harts store here!! I still have that reel,, now on a 6' medium action rod,, and Dad uses it out at my Sisters pond. I now know there's stuff thats a tad better. lol

I've been looking at those Lews spinning reels too. They are a smooth lot.

I switched ALL my reels over to Lews. It was a complete game changer. Love those things :eyebrownod:

I think next trip I'm gonna grab a Lews in ultra light if I see one. If for no other reason than to just go give one a whirl. Uncle Sam has tempted me with all new fishing equipment plus a kayak. I've resisted the spending of "his" money for the most part so far tho.
