This has been something in the making for a few years now.  It was someone from here that pointed me to jantz knife makings site a few years ago.  Think it was hawksfeather or huntncarve.  I have been wanting to make one for a while now but I finally broke down and I decided to make one.  I planned on making it for my fathers birthday which is this sunday.  I thought it was next sunday though so I thought I had enough time to get the project done.  He turns 50 this year and I wanted to make him something that he would appreciate.  I should get the knife done in time but the knife sheath which will be made out of beaver tail prob won't be done in time.  A close friend hooked me up with some from the beaver he caught last year.

here is the pics of the roughed in handle.  I got a lot of finish sanding to do tonight.

dim on it are 6 5/8oal by 7/8 wide.  just a small little knife that I hope he uses.  blade is 440c stainless.  I didn't make the blade.  The knife is actually a kit I bought from the above mentioned company.  I might make myself one then depending on how this one turns out.  Theres a lot of work into one of these knifes and I can see why they cost 100+ dollars to buy.

NICE! I think your father will like it.

Jantz is one of the companies I use for knife making supplies. They got a lot of really neat stuff.
Don't bring shame to our sport.

He died for dipshits too.

Hawks Feather

Looks like it turned out really well and I am sure that your Dad will be happy.  I like drop point knives and this one looks like it will fit a hand nicely.

Good work.

Looks good from here too. I'm not real fond of all that tape on the blade though, I think I'd remove that before I started skinning

I think your on to something Ben :eyebrownod:

Thanks fellas.  I finished sanding it with 600 grit sandpaper and it is now waiting to be buffed.  Not sure what i want to put on the handle to finish it though.  What kind of sealer do you put on wood to seal it?

That stuff has been protecting our stocks for decades & is easy to apply as well as touch up. I would think the 8oz bottle will give you multiple coats for a great durable finish. The only thing to be careful of is the application instructions should be followed very closely. I've seen a single fingerprint under this finish before.  :laf:

Get a pic of your Dad's face when he opens it if you can.

Tru-Oil ....... Is a good one for sure!   Boiled Lindseed oil  ( BLO)  Will also work...... It is important that it be something that you rub on..... and as you do you are wiping it off the metal..... otherwise you will get yellowing on the back of the blade where it runs through the handle.....
I hope that makes sense for ya?

sorry for the bad pics but here are the finished pics.  it came out better then i ever thought it would.

I plan on using linseed oil on it then to finish the wood.  Dad was happy with the knife.  I hope he had a good birthday.
