#2 was 239yds behind the front shoulder,, thru the neck,, & in the headbone!! I found it piled up just like this. It had a nice orange to it.

And a pigeon at 80yds with the 17 HMR.  :laf:

It's always fun to put them where you want them when the targets are small but the ranges long.    :congrats:

Here's a picture from one of the annual Digger Wars shoots for Belding ground squirrels I host in the spring on the years I feel up to it.   Beldings stand about 6" tall when sitting up on average, but the years new young can be only about 1/2-2/3's adult size when they first come up.   This one was taken at 309 yards with one of my 17 HMR's.   We have taken them as far as around 350 with the Hummer's, and to 687 yards with our wildcat centerfires.   Can't see them any farther away than that in the Medicago though.

FnF-- Those are good old Ohio groundhogs. :eyebrownod: I shot a couple over 11lbs last year & one was 12 1/2lbs. They would run the pdogs off.  If you ever get curious & look on a map I'm 20 minutes south of Canton on I77. Canton is home of the Football HOF. I live a few minutes south of vvarmitr.

Ladobe-- Those would be smaller than a praire dog then!! 687yds on a 6" target is some serious shootin!! Congrats on that shot for sure. :congrats:

WTG Buddy. How many does that make ya so far? Love the "orange" one. :laf:

Ladobe: We'd have you come over & show us how it's done, but it's hard to get a good 500yd shot. My longest is 423yds & I had to shoot from one farm over on another. :nono:

I've only taken a few photo's of game but this young groundhog was a little unusual... blonde almost white.
Shot a few summers ago with my 222 Rem, at 150 yards:

Here's a weird g'hog I shot w/ my 222 too.

I would have say it's a piebald. Only one I've ever seen & never heard of one before.
It looks like it's lacking hair, but its not. It was very well furred & healthy. Where you see white the fur is white.

HaMeR: still at 2.

Wow Chet,i have killed alote of ground hogs but never one in that color.I have never even heard of one like that.Great pic man.

fuzz624

VV,what caliber is that BVSS your shooting?I used to have one like that in a 220 swift.I am still kicking myself for getting rid of that one.My longest groundhog with it was 687yds off sandbags.

coyotehunter_1

vvarmitr,
That's one strange looking woodchuck.... fur sure. :shck:  :congrats:
The old 222 is one of my favorite cartridges, a fine chuck and coyote getter for where I hunt.

QuoteI have never even heard of one like that.
Fuzz,
Me either till that day.  A week or so later I shot two more blondies and about half a dozen "standard" groundhogs, all from the same 10 acre field.
The two others were blown up, a little too mushy to be photogenic.
Interesting enough only a few months earlier, Bop and I had called in a blonde coyote... he has that one mounted on his wall.

Fuzz: Mine's in 22Varminter (22-250). If your 220Swift shot like mine does heck even I'll kick ya.  :eyebrownod:
That's one that was made before Savage reintroduced the short-action. That gun & I have "Zig-Zag." :sneer:  When I Zig, it Zags, & we have shot several bug-hole groups. :eyebrow:  It still has that horrible trigger. :rolleye: Someday I'll change it ... someday. :innocentwhistle:

Chet: I'm a lover of the 222 too also. My very first gun was a 222. The one I have now is a Rem' 722 w/ a V16 Weaver w/ the dot. I put a legal dose of 10X under a 40gr V-Max lite w/a 6 1/2 Rem. primer. 3500fps! G'hogs see me coming w/ it & this is what they do ...
