Post by: Bills Custom Calls on August 17, 2010, 05:22:46 PM
I stopped by a friends farm today and he showed me this little gadget Told me a little bit about it and how it was very useful in the farming industry I was wondering if anyone here knew what this was used for

Most of us farmers would have used it for repairing big fishing nets :innocentwhistle:.

How about in the 1800's when beds were actually made of ropes they used this tool to tighten the bed ropes from time to time.
In fact this is also where the phrase "sleep tight" came from.

:wo: That device was used like a chain boomer for tightening the ropes on bundled corn and hay left in the field. The binding ropes could be adjusted as the fodder was used up, fed to the livestock. :eyebrownod:

These old fashioned fodder stacks were often called bloomers.. thus the old expression "Don't get your bloomers in a wad".  :eyebrow:
