I see some new names joining, and thought it might be a good idea for every one to tell us a little about your self and were your from. We can keep this pinned at the top for all the new members to add there's to when they join.
So, tell us......How long you been Calling, were your from, and anything else you want! Maybe a little bio on yourself?
Thanks,

Hi, my name is James Holbrook and I'm a FinsandFuraholic. :eyebrownod:
Anyway, I'm 37 years old. Been hunting ever since I can remember. Started coyote hunting about 7 years ago....I think.
I've been with the same lady for 12 years.....married 10 of them. I have two little ones.
My girl is 9 and thinks she is 19......my little boy just turned 5 and is really wanting to coyote hunt bad.
I work at a Porcelain Tile Factory. I'm a supervisor over two departments there.
My life sounds mundane, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Life is good. I enjoy the small victories in life and the simple pleasures. I have an overactive sense of humor, but hope I never hurt your feelings, if I do, just let me know. I might apologize. :eyebrownod:
I was born and spent my childhood in Nebraska. Lived awhile in Kansas and Wyoming as well. God saw fit to send me to Tennessee and I've been here ever since.
That's about it. :innocentwhistle:
Hello, My name is Dan Carey (whodathunkit)
I'm retired, I was a business owner until 2004 when someone made me an offer I couldn't resist. I was born in AZ, grew up in southwestern NM where I went to grade school, high school and college. I now live in both AZ and NM as I have a home in both. AZ for the winter months and a home in the mountains of southwestern NM when its too hot handle AZ.
I hunt everything I can get drawn for. I also go to Wyoming and Montana every summer to shoot dogs. I've hunted in Alaska for brown bears and Newfoundland for Moose. I hunt Varmints constantly, both in AZ and NM. I can do a little trapping in NM in the winter if I feel like putting up with the cold weather.
I shoot bench rest both short (100-300) and long range (1000). I'm fortunate enough to be able build my guns, both BR and sporting. I don't however, solicit work.
My favorite caliber is 223 Remington on Remington action I have rifles from a 17 MACH IV to a 375 H&H, about 50 different rifles. Hand guns from 22 RF to 454 casull.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Hey all, my name is Chad Sontag(pronounced sawn tag) you would be surprised how many ways i have heard it pronounced.
I am 27 and currently living in Prattville, AL just outside of Maxwell Air Force Base.
I was born in Ocala, FL and grew up hunting with my dad. Back then he ran dogs so gun season I spent half of my time trying to catch the dang dogs...maybe that's why I like archery season... :wo:
Shot a bobcat when i was 17 while trying to call turkeys in the fall...that got the wheels spinning on the whole predator thing but never really went with it until about 3 years ago.
Joined the air force in 1997 and have been stationed in Texas, Nebraska, Maine, and Alabama.
I am also into fishing, climbing, racing motorcycles and just about anything outdoors
oh yeah and I am married and have two daughters one is 6 and the other is 2...if my wife read this board I would be in trouble for putting that last... :innocentwhistle:
Well lets see,
My real nick name is Bear. Been called that sense I was 16. Most people don't even know my real name. I have lived in Indiana all my life. Started hunting when I was old enough to walk around in the weeds with my dad when we would go rabbit hunting. Sense then I hunt about anything you can hunt in Indiana except turkey. Give me time on the turkey tho. I jsut have gotten bitten by the predator calling bug. So give me a little time to get me one that I have actually called in.
I work as an industrial maintenance tech been doing that for about 18 years.
My hobbiers include motorcycles, making indian bead work, knive making "but not as much anymore", hunitng, fishing, reading, wrighting short sci-fi stories, photography and a few other things.
I have two daughters ages 9 and 16, been married and will most likely not do anything crazy like that again.
I have for years wanted to reload and now with the new job I have I shoudl be able to afford to get me the equipment I need to start following that passion.
Well thats pretty much me in a nut shell. Nothing fancy just me
Typing in here makes me feel like I'm wearing one of the 2x3 names stickers on my shirt.
Jim Champion here.
40 yrs old <---no comments about that :innocentwhistle:
I live in the South, most Western, corner of Wisconsin, on the banks of the Mississippi River.
Started hunting when I turned twelve, fresh out of Hunters Safety Course. Deer and Squirrel was about all that was on that menu at the time.
Got married in 1991, had three beautiful children whom I wouldn't trade for the world, and then got divorced in 1996.
....and it's staying that way.
I got tired of hunting Deer, didn't care for the meat, and to me it was like shooting cattle. Where's the hunt, where's the challenge? Nothing against anyone who enjoys it...I just got tired of it.
That was about the time ole predator hunting was Juuuuuuust beginning to become a big thing.
I sold my deer rifle which was a Ruger M77 MarkII in a 270 and bought it's twin in a 22-250 and decided to give this coyote hunting a whirl, a lot of folks were beginning to talk about.
That was also real close to the time I became a member over at ... :innocentwhistle:....the other board. 2001
Which now seems to be heading down a path I didn't care to be a part of, so I left to start my own here.
I think Predator Hunting is an addiction....the more you do it, the more you need to do it. And there's no known cure.
I'm also an Independent Contractor by trade. Been in or around construction since I was 15, and now operate on my own. That's my main bread and butter.
I started a low scale tanning business in 1992 with the help of a good buddy who was a taxidermist at the time. And that has just exploded over the years. I built a shop and got licensed with the state and went public with that in 1994.
Doing business nation wide as Champion Tannery and will probably quit construction one day and build my own major facility and continue the tannery as long as I can before handing it down.
That's my story and I'm stickin to it. :whew:
Well,Steve Macklin here,I live in Garden Valley Idaho.Love to hunt anything i can and here it is easy :wink:Been with my wife now going on 19 years :biggrin:have 4 kids,2 grandkids :biggrin:and wouldn't trade none of them.I'm 47 years old :roflmao:I'm a mechanic by trade, but currently I'm manager of a Florring business :madd:.looking forward to talking to all of you in the future :eyebrow:Steve
Most of you all know me but I figured I would post anyway..........
My name is Brent saxton, I live in Southern Ohio and have been here most of my life except for a few years living in GA. I am right on the Ohio river, so that puts me about 20 min from the KY or WV line. Makes it nice to be able to hunt three states in just a few min.
I have been hunting since I could walk, my garandfather started taking me out when I was a little feller! Tough me to trap as well. I ran a trap line every day before school for allot of years. Along with bowhunting, Turkey hunting or anything else I could hunt or call for all my life. Same way with fishing, I enjoy making several trips down south and saltwater fishing every year, and love to fish for those big flat head cats in the summer!
I been married for 12 years now and have three wonderful kids, 1 boy and two girls.
I been involved in the outdoors all my life, started a turkey call making business and ran it for several years before selling out. I spent allot of time traveling to sport shows doing seminars and calling contests for several years as well. After selling out the business I got bored and started Kee's Custom Calls, specializing in custom predator calls and howlers. And now have expanded again to Kee's Productions. Producing predator video's and sound Cd's. And we are looking to expand again real soon.
I still work a full time job as a manager over a maintenance department at Pepsi Cola. So, things sure are hopping around here.
I spent allot of time over at Predator Masters as a administrator and moderator, coroneted there hunts for awhile before comming here with Jim.
I also do some part time guiding for spring turkey in OH and KY every year and a few deer and Predator hunts as well. I use to do allot of guiding but have cut back due to time restraints.
I try and guide the youth hunts in OH and KY every year. I think kids are our future in this sport, and really enjoy guiding young hunters when I can.
Thats about enough rambling for now! :eyebrownod:

Hi guys my name is Joe Spiker, hence the jspike screen name. I'm 34 and work for my family's construction business. After spending my time in the trenches I have been given the joy of construction foreman along with my regular duties. Gotta love working for the family. Growing up I use to squirrel and deer hunt. After about 10-12 yrs of little to no hunting I started deer hunting again and in the last year I have started to hunt coyotes, foxes, and crows. I used to ski and mt bike but a neck injury suffered in the Navy has greatly limited my physical exercise. That is the big reason I started hunting again. Just to have something to keep from going cabin crazy. The hardest part of the injury was getting use to shooting a rifle without the marksmanship that I use to have. I gotta little shake now. While I'm single I have the greatest nephews and niece out there. My youngest nephew(7) loves to hunt and shoot. So we spend a lot of time in the woods. He got his first squirrel with me last year.
There are many days I feel like the only predator hunter in western maryland but I keep going out there. Even though I haven't called in a coyote yet and only one fox so far. Gotta have faith.
My name is Rick from Colorado. I'm married for 19yrs to the same women, who would have thought it. I have 3 sons 14. 12, and 7 they all hunt with me. We just started hunting varmints last year and really enjoy it. Have always hunted Deer, Elk and now that my boys are old enough we have a blast. Wish all a good season.
Welcome aboard Rick, make yourself at home.

The round one from Crossville..........
I thought I was the only guy on here from Crossville..........oh you mean Coyotehunter_1....he's originally from Crossville....... :eyebrownod:
Born on a mountain top in Tennessee…. :laf:
Like my 'ol hunting partner said, I was born in Crossville. Now my wife and I live about thirty miles east of my birthplace. My moniker is coyotehunter_1 but some call me Chet Parsons. My ancestors have been hunters and trappers since the days of the first dinosaurs, I feel quite lucky to be a small fraction of such a legacy. Being born at a very early age, it was some time before I was able to follow my father and grandfathers into the field. At age five or so my dad started taking me along on rabbit or quail hunts. Forty five years later we still look forward to our trips together. Over my lifetime a variety of game has come into my sights, from small critters to larger whitetail deer and wild boar. I started using hand calls for calling fox and bobcats back in the late 60’s. It was in the winter of ‘73 that I called in and killed my first coyote. A captivating experience! An incurable fever also overcame me that day.... a fervor from one of the craftiest of animals. For the past three decades the vast majority of my time in the field has been dedicated to hunting coyotes.

Married 31 years, three children,2 daughters, 1 son(doesn't share my passion for hunting) 4 grandchildren- three girls, one grandson.(he goes hunting w/ Grampy when he's not playing soccer which is most of the time)

Welcome to the site Mike. Any friend of Al's doesn't belong he....I mean.... is a friend of ours too.
Seriously, welcome aboard, enjoy, and make yourself at home. :congrats:
My name is JD Piatt. My story goes like this:
I was born and raised a poor .............We'll skip ahead!!
I grew up hunting without really anyone teachin me the ropes. My dad never hunted anything but Rabbits and that was few and far between. I started out hunting squirells and rabbits, and spent every wakin moment allowed in the woods chasin them. At the same time I started trapping Raccooons and Possums and any other critters that would try and take my slice of liver, hidden under a leaf. Boy the good ol'days, I sure miss em.
When I reached 14 I progressed to Whitetail hunting and shot my first doe that winter with a gun. I had also improved my trappin skills by then and was running a successful canine line. I caught my first fox at 12 years old. I have not missed a Deer season since. I have taken several nice Whitetail bucks over the years.
I cut my teeth calling fox at night. Boy was that alot of fun, watchin them beaty little eyes bouncin in to the call and takin them with shotguns. Every fox called was pure excitement, the rush was like no other. Unfortunately coyotes and fox do not co-exist very well. I started havin troubles on the Fox trapline with coyotes eating the stomachs of my caught red foxes. I noticed a major change in my success rates when calling to. I remember the first coyote I called in at night, I was in awe. Ever since then I have been infatuated with coyotes. I changed the way I trapped, to target coyotes. I quit callin fox at night and switched to coyotes in the morning and evenings. It took quite a bit of time and alot of reading Jerry Blairs articles in The trapper predator caller magazine to score my first coyote, calling.
Present time, I am workin with Brent Saxton on an Eastern coyote video series to help shorten the learning curve for the new Eastern callers. This has taken me to several states I never dreamed I'd ever get the chance to hunt. I hope to see many other states as well. I have had the privelage to meet and shoot the bull with many experienced callers accross the country. Something I cherish greatly.
I am married now for 11 years and have 4 children. 1 daughter and 3 boys, talk about stayin busy..LOL..
I am very lucky to have a wife like i do. She understands my passion for hunting and does pretty well in the fall and winter putting up with my time spent in the woods or traveling. I mentor my 14 year old son in every aspect of hunting. He along with my 5 year old are the only 2 that show an interest. All 3 of the older kids always enjoyed runnin the trapline with me, but it has been 6 years since I have set a trap. I plan on settin a couple around the house this year so that my youngest gets to experience trapping too.
JD
A little about me.....
My name is Brian Byers. I am 29 now, but my hunting days started when I had to stand up in the front seat of the truck to see out. I grew up in Kansas, but now reside in Illinois. Coyote and turkey are the preferred game species currently, but deer, pheasant, quail, bobcat, fox, and caribou have been taken in the past. Weapons that I currently have are a Ruger 22-250, Ruger 270, Browning A5, Browning Gold, and Mathews Legacy Bow.
The summer time is usually consumed by riding my Harley Road King, and winter is hunting season. I am married to my wife of 3 years. The best wife that one could ask for that lets me ride and hunt whenever I feel like going someplace.
Brian

My name is Mike May grew up in the hills of WV. I now live in Tennessee. I have hunted for over 25 years and if It were possible hunting would be my job,but instead I work on cars for a living :madd: I have mostly deer and small game hunted until a few year ago I picked up a Outdoor Life magazine with a coyote on the cover and started doing some reading on it. Now I can't wait for deer season to end so I can start calling. After having the first coyote come running in to the call I have been hooked.
I've been married for about 210 years  with two great kids and I would not change any of that.

My name is Tom Clouse, I live in Crossville, Tennessee, just a couple of miles from Bopeye. I am 38 years old, married and have 6 girls. I am fulltime military at the moment, having some back trouble so the military might be done with me pretty soon because of my back. I have always hunted and fished. My dad taught me how to do both. I am originally from Shelbyville, IN and moved to Tennessee when I was 10. I have killed a few coyotes while deer hunting but have never called one in. I am currently trying to get started into trapping and tanning. I have been reading the post about tanning and cant seem to stop. If you are a true hunter we will get along fine. I have a sarcastic sense of humor, dont mean anything bad I say, most is just in fun. lol Tom

Hi everyone. My name is banditt( :roflmao:), I live in Southern Wisconsin and have lived in Wisconsin my whole life--(36 years.) I've been hunting (pheasant, deer, turkeys, rabbit, and squirrel) since I was a young lad. I just lately got into predator hunting in the last year or two, and can't wait to call in my first fox or coyote. I feel as though I'm already addicted to it, and can't imagine what will happen when I finally call one in :wo: :highclap: I enjoy 4 wheeling, shooting (guns and bow), and pretty much anything that takes me into the great outdoors. Since I'm fairly new to predator hunting, I don't have a lot of info to offer, but I plan to soak up the tips you guys offer like a sponge. Looks to be a great place here, and I'll see ya'll on the boards. :yoyo:

Man,there is getting to be a bunch of us Ohio guys on here.Welcome to the site 222shooter.
Hey, I'm Carl Freeman, I met a lot of you at the LBL hunt, if you don't remember me I was with Ronnie Cannon, Well I'm 65 years old, married my Wife in 1959, we have two daughters and five Grands, We live in the upstate of South Carolina, I started getting and interest in Predator hunting about four years ago. I am an avid Deer Hunter and had killed a few Coyotes while sitting on the Deer stand in Georgia where I do most of my hunting., I had no idea that you could call them up but we started seeing more and more sign of Coyotes on the club property and decided we needed to do something to thin them out . I started to doing a little research on Coyotes, at that time I did not know anyone that was a dedicated predator hunter. I first bought a electronic call and tried it for the first year with no results, I then bought some hand calls and on the first set-up with a friend I called up a coyote and he killed it, the next set-up I called up two coyotes and the wind changed on me and they busted me, The next evening first set-up called in another coyote, he came in behind us and busted us, the next set-up I called in a BobCat I missed it. Now at this point I thought this is not to difficult to call in predators. I now realize I was having beginners luck but I also learned what a great sport predator hunting is. I have had some success the last two years mostly on Bobcats as we seem to have an abundance of Cats on our club property. I have also killed a few coyotes around my home her in Carolina. I really enjoyed the LBL hunt this year and hope to come again next year. Carl (Carolina Coyote)
Welcome aboard, and hey doesnt that Ronnie fella supposedly make calls or sumtin?
Welcome aboard Carl.
It was a pleasure meeting you at the LBL.
Lookin forward to next year.
Todd, I think Ronnie has made a few calls for himself but not really into making calls, He is however a good coyote Hunter and he has been trying to help me to learn. I have enjoyed hunting with him.
Hello Carl............it's great to have you..... :yoyo: :highclap:
Hey Bopeye, i met you at the LBL, Would love to go hunt with you sometime with the dogs to see how that works. CC

Hey guys, my name is Chris Nichols and I'm 33. I grew up in N AL just outside of Gadsden. I have always hunted deer and turkey's and have killed a couple of yotes while deer hunting but have never really done any serious predator hunting. I currently live in Vidalia, GA (Yeah where the onions are from). I am a Regional Director for SouthernCare Hospice. I love my job because it allows me reach people in need and I get the chance to feel like I'm making a difference in there life. I travel the state of GA and East AL so I get to see a lot of different parts of the state. I am hoping to meet some of the guys on here and hook up for a few hunts, at least until I get my feet wet.
I have two girls, the oldest is 8 and the youngest is 2. I just recently celebrated my second 3rd year anniversary.
My turn to chime in.
My name is Joe Stephenson, I have only been in the outdoors since 1994 (the year I graduated and turned 18). All my life I wanted to hunt/ fish, but my parents would not let me. I used to hide in the bushes like I was hunting and just watch the birds and rabbits hang out all around me. Once I graduated, I started work at Wal-Mart in the sporting goods section. That right there got me jumpstarted. I went through hunters safety, and bought my first shotgun. The road to where I am now has been a long road. I am now 31 years old, and have bagged a fair amount of small game, and 8 deer (it took me 7 years to get my first). I am still waiting for my first turkey and coyote. So if there is anyone that wants to help on that turkey or coyote, just let me know. :eyebrow:
Oh sure Joel, wear a path in and out of the place for two months and then come in here and tell us about yourself :eyebrownod:
I'm just givin ya crap.
Welcome to Fins and Fur Gentlemen
Well ya just bagged your first "turkey". Ya got Jim to reply. :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

Heck if I have my way I'll be down ther turkey hunt'n in southern Ohio this year.
I am actually hoping to get up to Southern Ohio this year also. There are some good birds there, but there are a lot here in TN also.
No appologies needed Joel, I was just razzin ya.
Good meeting you at the LBL this year
NewDog,

Welcome to the board catskinner.
Boy...you must have a heck of a jaunt to work. How many miles is that?
Thanks,
About 1100 mile commute, only have to do it every three weeks I work 2 weeks on 1 week off.
Wow...going to work Honey...see ya at Easter :laf:
But then again I can get on a plane at 8PM and be home at midnight, if everything goes right that is.
Hey Everyone
I live in Middle Tennessee and was given the link to this site by a friend.. So I thought I would join and see whats going on..
Hi, I'm Jerry Hunsley from Pierre S.D. I guess I am an old fart at 62 yrs. Been doing the predator thing for many many years. Called my first critter at 11yrs old and have been hooked ever since. I am retired right now after 35yrs with the Gov. Currently I am owner of Wiley One Predator Calls and it is just a nice hobby and it puts a little cash in my pocket. I am still very active running a trap line and still calling coyotes, and giving a seminar once in awhile. Not real active in the contest anymore but still go to meet the guys. I do a lot of fishing in the summertime as I only live 5 minutes from the river. Enjoy the predator forums on the different sites and participate once in awhile. I raised two boys that are active in hunting and fishing and they only live about 2oo miles from Me and the wife. I have lived in Pierre my whole life and married my highschool cheerleader. I was a ball player and she was a cheerleader. Her name is Paula. I have a decoy dog which will be getting a workout pretty darn soon, as I hunt coyotes pretty much all year except when I'm out fishing. My walking is limited anymore as I have a new artificial joint in my ankle. We have quite a few coyotes around our town and area but they get a lot of pressure not only the callers, but the greyhound guys and snowmobiles. They kill a lot . That's about it. I post pictures and videos once in awhile on this site and I hope you like them. God bless our troops
My name Lee Rodgers and I live in Michie, TN. It is in the Southwest corner of TN in McNairy County. If you have ever heard of "Buford Pusser" that is where I roam :eyebrownod: I am married 12 years to my wife Lisa and we have three children. Catie 16 :argh:, Jake 10, and Holden 8. I am a territory manager for a industrial chemical company and cover MS, TN, and AR.
I spent 6 years in the USAF and was a Czech Linguist monitoring commy heli's on the German border mirroring our cobras doing border patrol. After a two year stint in Germany I spent my last 4 years at Offutt AFB in Omaha, NE as a satellite imagery analyst.
I have been predator hunting for 5 years now and I consider myself extremely addicted :eyebrownod: My favorite calibers are the 204, 223, and the 243. Most have been taken with the 243, but I intend on breaking in the new CZ this coming year.
Another love of mine is bowhunting whitetails. I am not very good at it but will get better with time. My favorite go to caliber for whitetail is the trusty 243.
Other than that, I love spending time with my lovely bride, and being the best husband and father I can be.
Guess I should introduce myself. My name is Lynn Brazelton (yes, that's a Mr. :laf:) and I hail from Northern California. I am a call maker, mainly Predator calls. But the more time I spend on this site I am moving into the idea of trying to make some Turkey, Duck and Deer Grunt calls. I just like working on the lathe and so anything I can make there I am willing to give it a try.
I am 63 years old and retired. I spent 40 years working for the State of California. It was a good living, but one sure has to dislike living out here in California anymore. It is beautiful country, but the politics will drive one nuts. :madd:
While I do a bit of hunting of all kinds, my love is shooting. I love to just go out with the 22, or whatever, and just shoot. I do shoot a bit of silhouette with the 22 and 44 mag lever actions, but I am not one of the top shooters. Just out there having a good time. Worked to long not to spend time doing something I enjoy.
Well, that's about it. Oh yea, I was coerced into joining by Al, of TJO Predator Calls. I have been buying parts from him for over a year now, and he keeps telling me I just must join. So, here I am. Glad to be here to. Looks like a great site with a bunch of great guys. Been lurking for awhile.
WELCOME alpenliter glad to have you here. :yoyo:
Hey all. My name is Eric Mayer. I'm an avid varmint hunter and predator caller from Los Angeles (yep, you read that right).
My favourite animal to shoot is the ground squirrel, which we have tons of in some areas.
My favourite calibers right now are the .218 Bee, 5mm Rimfire, 20 and the 17HM2. I shoot a bunch of others, but those are my current favourites.
Nice to be here and I'll definitely be checking in.
Eric A. Mayer

Hello guys,
Just found this thread and figured I should put something here.
My name is Allan Strand, I am 31 years old. I live near Carson City NV with my wife, son and 2 daughters. Been married since 2000 and hunting and fishing for whatever I could for as long as I can remember. I grew up on the northern coast of the communist republic of california , and moved to Nevada in 1999. I spent my youth working several jobs including commercial fishing and construction at age 11. I currently am a Sergeant for the local Sheriff's office and assigned to the jail. This is a great forum with several people that are more than willing to help if people need it. i am glad to be here.

Hi all, saw this thread earlier, kinda forgot about it, thought I better introduce myself a little. My name is Scott Cooper(I'll be the big 40 this year,a pup to some, older then dirt to others), I have a great wife(undisclosed age, but within a year of mine :eyebrownod:) , an 18 year old son, and a 17 year old daughter. We live in west central Iowa. Been huntin pretty much all my life, bowhunting has always been my biggest passion, allthough calling is super addictive and ranks right there. I consider myself a newbe to the sport of predator calling. I did it some 20-25 years ago with not much success, and started again within the past few years. I've had the privilage of bowhuntin Elk and Mulies in Colorado, Elk in Idaho a couple times, Boar huntin in Texas, and Bear huntin in Canada several times. Hopefully add predator huntin with you all to the list sometime. I've made a few calls in the past out of antler, but recently purchased a lathe and havin alot of fun with that. That's about it for now, thanks everyone for all the help, information, and comradery. Scott
Good to meet ya, Scott. Be careful here. Some of these guys are preverts, insufferable pricks, and all around loonies. :puke: :roflmao:
Otherwise ya couldn't have picked a better spot to hang out. Welcome aboard!

Hi Guys,
I am from Northeast Ohio around the Canfield area.A friend , Red Dog, told me about your forum and after looking through it,I like what I see. You have a good one.
I have just enterened into the world of predator hunting and haven't even got one yet before I spent a ton of money in the hopes of achieving success in the sport.
I have deer and bear hunted along with all the small game hunting, fishing and camping.I love the outdoors and look for an excuse to keep getting in the woods or on the water.
My friend Red Dog and I did some load developing for our 22-250's and we can knock the heck out of the bullseye at a 100 yards. Maybe we can transform this in to some productive predator hunting,if not,we'll just have a good time being among mother nature.
Good shooting,
Musky Hunter
Welcome Musky
Welcome Musky Hunter glad to have you here. :yoyo:
Welcome Musky. Grab a seat and stay awhile.
Brian.
Welcome !! It's all addicting and a ton of fun!
Musky,
Welcome to Fins and Fur. It is always great to have another person from Ohio here.
Jerry
Hey Musky: just south of ya in the Dover area. If ya can take the banter it's a great place to be. :nono:
There's even people on here that have shot coyotes too. :eyebrow:
I think if Brent's wife signs up we will have the entire Ohio population here.
Welcome aboard Musky Hunter
Hey Musky;
Told you these guys would make you welcome :thumb2:
Welcome to the Forum Musky!! :eyebrownod:
Thank You fellow hunters for making me feel welcomed on your forum. I'm looking forward to the learning process of predator hunting and your great advice. My friend,Red Dog and I have been playing around with our new calls but haven't had any takers. There are not a whole lot of yotes around my farm as I once thought there was. We'll keep trying. We are ,however, waiting till much later in the year when we are certain the pups will do well on their own.
Welcome Musky !! Yes another buckeye I am just about an hour South of ya I have never shot a coyote ,but have had some success calling them in.
Bill
HOWDY ALL,
Been meaning to post here for awhile. my name's Jimmie and live near Spencer Lake ,Medina county,Ohio. Been retired since 2004 after working for Cleveland Water Dept. for almost 32 yrs.I enjoy muzzleloading hunting and been at it from the early 80's when I bought a" Hawkins Gun" !Enjoy Rondezous and primitive trekking thanks to Mark Baker's Tapes on the longhunter. I go by Blackie as my Rondeezous handle but will answer to about anything. My Great-Uncle showed how to shoot a longbow and I enjoy that Too! Now don't get me thought of as a primitive sort, cause I enjoy shooting modern weapons too! Baltic Bill told me about this site and I would like to Thank him and the Guys who run this board for having me here! It's a good site and hopefully we all will get out together and do some hunting or fishing ! Take care,Jimmie

Welcome Blackfish glad to have you. Stop by often and sit a spell :yoyo:
Hi Jimmie. I think it's cool you like the "old school" ways. The nice thing about this place is that we don't judge folks for their likes & that your differences are just that to us,,, differences. Nothing more,, nothing less. Now show us some kills with those primitive weapons man!! :laf:
Thanks All !!! HaMeR ,I'll see what I can dig up,but you know that was before we had cameras!

That's my first & only muzzle loader kill so far. That there is the only gun I've been tempted to shoot. ;yes;
By the time I got the Lupy scope off it I had calmed down enough to not shoot it w/ a smoken load of #4buck from the ol' 10ga. :mad2: Yeah I ain't to much into front stuffers. :nono:
Please don't think of me as too weird as we even have people on here that fish. :rolleye:

HI, I'm new here and pretty new to predator hunting. I actually found this place while doing a search for a tannery to get a fox hide tanned. The champion tannery site was near the top, and after looking around I see this "forum" link.
Ya'll seem to have a wide range of info here. Maybe I can learn a little. I've been doing a lot of reading.
Maybe this fall I will have the time to put some of this new knowledge into action. :wo:
Eric the Red
Glad to have you here. Where are you located and maybe someone local can help you out.

Unfortunately, I'm stuck in California. :rolleye: near Pasadena.

No. The tutorial here was so good, I decided to try a home tan.

Oh great ...the tutorials are coming down tomorrow. :innocentwhistle:

Silencer,
Welcome to Fins and Fur. I think you may like it here. After all KeeKee hangs out here and he hunts more turkeys than anyone I know.
Jerry
Thanks guys, I do enjoy reading/listening to Kee's posts, no I'm not a Kee Kee stalker .. lol.
I plan on making another picture re-mix of just turkey's, my dad has most of the photos taken over the years, he always took the pic's.
I'm not sure if he'll part with any, his photo albums are one of his most cherished items thats has both my brother and myself growing up with yearly spring gobbler pics. I'm doing the same with my children, its always fun to open an album, look back and remember the hunt.
Welcome aboard Silencer, and gobble gobble to you. I predict there will be a lot more "Owooooooooooooos" in your life in the years to come. Something about this coyote hunting that is really addictive. Like Rich Cronk says, just the word "Coyote" stirs your blood up. :yoyo:
Welcome Silencer. Glad to see your involving the kids in our sports. Love to see them younglings out learning and enjoying something besides a video game. I haven't got to look at your clip yet as the work computer is set up to throw off bells and whistles. But I'll check it out this afternoon after Me and lil-man return from fishing. (I threw that in for you Stu...)
Welcome Silencer. Good to have you here. I think you'll like it.
Thanks again for the welcome, I've read at one point or another most of yall's posts, just never chit chatted with ya's.
Welcome aboard, Silencer! You'll soon figure out there are a few around here that don't have all their marbles in one sack. Too many years of listening to the dyin rabbit blues, me thinks.

Newbomb: If you think you have heard plenty of b.s. at the fire station, wait until you mess with us a while! :roflmao:
I got to reading through this section and thought I'd better put something up since I never did when first coming in here.
I am Danny Hall. Born and raised in southwest Virginia. Been married twice, the first one refuses to move to that remote island & take her mother w/ her :argh:, The current and last wife puts up with me so I guess I'll keep her a while longer yet.(And if she read that I'll wear glasses for a week or so to hide the marks)
My family is what comes first in anything we do and I have two kids, Cam (AKA: Lil-man) (Turd) who just turned 9 and Tori who is getting ready to turn 16. Tori is from the first wife and spends most of her time with her mom. Cam is my hunting partner and fishing buddy. He is my shadow and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Have hunted as long as I can remember for just about anything that dad was in the mood to hunt. My dad was the person who tried to teach me and took me hunting & fishing. After he passed away I all but got out of the sport till Cam started asking to go. Since then I feel like I'm a kid again myself and we try to get out in the woods or on the water every chance we get. We got into predator hunting two years ago and took it hook line & sinker. Cam got interested in calling and we bought a Cass creak call and decided to try it out. First set, minutes after turning the thing on, a red fox runs over behind us. Hence the hook, line and sinker....LOL Took us several sets to finally get that fox, but the time we spent learning from our mistakes just got us more involved in the sport and showed me that this is something I want to do with him as it was a great father/son thing. Some sets we just sit and talk, never make the first call. Others we end up chasing the crows and squirrel's cause he changed his mind and wants to hunt something else that day(All legal of course)
I've deer hunted more than anything but would give up all the rest to keep the predator hunting. It's just a blast even if we don't see or shoot anything. I get to watch Cam learn, while I'm still learning, and that's why we are here. To have fun and learn about this great sport. Hat's off to each and everyone of you that has donated your time & input on everything to help all us still learning. Your a great bunch of people me and Cam calls friends. :highclap:
nice to see another pa boy here. welcome
Hey Danny: That is great stuff about hunting with your son. Nothing can take the place of the quality time you spend in that environment with him. Teaching my grandson, who you see in my avatar, has been a blast and he is fast developing into about as good a hunting partner as you could ever ask for, and one hell of a coyote hunter at the same time. I made him learn to call them in with mouth calls before we ever took the ecaller, and I feel that is what developed him the most. :highclap:
There's another familiar name. Welcome to the site Silencer.
Cool little clip ya put together there.

Wake up Bill. We've been here....LOL Been hitting the ketchup again huh??? :laugh2:
Hello to the camp! This is my first time logging into Jim's site though I've been lurking off and on over the last year.
I've been shooting western coyotes for a while and I'm a long time member of Predator Callers of Orange County, CA, one of the SoCal predator clubs. While my screen name is Nahuatl on a few other sites - this one is easier to pronounce - and for some reason, easier to register. I recently was asked to join the Minaska Pro Staff - and maybe you saw a few of my photos in the recent gear guide issue of Predator Xtreme Magazine in the Minaska advertisement. While I still like a hand call at the beginning of a stand, I've got a couple of Bandits, an FX5, a WT, a JS 512, and several other custom callers that I use and abuse. I particularly like electronic callers on long hunts where hunting solo and hand calling wears me out, and electronics help keep the attention off of me while I'm lifting a gun. I can tell you what I think are the good and bad points of each - and I probably will at one time or another.
I'm not here to run down anyone or any thing or threadcrap anyones post - but I don't like nonsense or personal attacks either. I like to keep it real.
For a long time, I used a rifle for hunting predators, especially at night hunting with spotlights in the CA southern Zone 2 and in Nevada - but the last two years I'm hunting more and more with a shotgun, and calling them close in broad daylight. I'm in a real minority here, but I like using an over and under shotgun for many reasons, one of them is not the recoil - an O/U kicks like a mule. My closest shot last year was 7 feet - and I managed to get 10 doubles hunting solo, a triple and a quad, and another 2 doubles with partners. My daughter is also a coyote shooter.
Our season starts here in a couple of days and I look forward to asking a few questions, maybe trying to answer a few, and posting a few pics in the coming year.
Gary in CA
welcome to the board Gary glad to see ya finally wondered over here :congrats:
Nice to meet ya, Gary. ;yes;
Hey Gary: Glad to see you come to a good forum, and glad to see about your Minaska appointment. Is it alright if I still call you Nahuatl? I know you must be busy getting ready for the start of your season out there in bear country. I hope you can reach your goals this year without getting attacked by one of those desert coyotes like last year. That would be an example of calling them a bit too close for my tastes! :roflmao:
Welcome. You found a great site here. Lots of good folk to chat with.
Gary,

Hello everyone, My real name is Ronnie Bullard,45 years old, been married twice and I have a wonderful wife of 6 years although we have been together for 15 years, two wonderful children from my previous marriage, a daughter Tiffany, who is in honor's college and a son Wesley who is a X-box junkie and a stepson John who is a fine young man and married, expecting in a week or so. Talk about night and day! Anyway, My real job is construction work in the field of communications, (celluar phone sites) although iI really enjoy making turkey and duck calls, been doing it for about 20 years now, AKA: Mightyhunter Game Calls, Hoping to gain some knowledge of making varmit and prediter calls from some of you in the future. I mainly try to enjoy each day and wake to see the sunrise that the good Lord has allowed me to see each day. Life is good!
Welcome aboard MightyHunter1962. Glad to have ya! :sneer:
welcome to the funny farm Ronnie, :yoyo: kick back and enjoy theres a fantastic group of people here :congrats:
Ronnie,
Welcome to Fins and Fur. There are more turkey hunters here than turkey call builders, but that works out pretty good. There are several excellent predator call builders here and any of them will be glad to help you out. In the call section you can even check out some of the tutorials for predator calls. Again, welcome.
If you ever need any help on building towers I would be more than happy to come and watch the cement base dry. Heck, I might even climb up the first section (assuming it isn't over 20 feet), after that you are on your own.
Sounds like your kids are doing well and I am sure you enjoy them greatly, but just wait till you are a grandparent!

An enthusiastic "Welcome aboard" to all the new members. Special note to Hillbilly280: No fair hunting with Andy and Barney up there around Mt. Airy. They may make it up that way from Mayberry, and probably know that country real well from chasing criminals. Old Barney is not physically with us anymore, but he may be even more helpful from the spirit world. :roflmao:
Hi guys,
I am a retired watchmaker (with a little more time in my hands, now) and I do bowhunting here in the Island (Long Island, New York) gun hunting for deer and bear in the Catskill and Adirondack mountains and I sometimes go to upper Maine for the bear season in September.
I fly fish the Connetquot and Carman rivers for trout and I do some fishing for blue fish out of Greenport in the island.
I sometimes go for coyote in the winter months to the Catskill area, hunt them with a call and light.
I like to shoot blackpowder guns and revolvers (and collect them) and I am crazy about hunting knives and flashlights, one of my hobbies is to make a very powerful flashlight for law enforcement, called the BOREALIS 1050 lumens flashlight.
I also have some itch about optics and own several binoculars and I have multi scopes (interchange) for all my rifles, for example I have a 3X9 by 40 in a rifle for long shots, and a scope for short shots 1x4 in timber, additionally I have another scope as a spare (one is none and two is one). Most of my rifles are set up that way, even the in line black powder rifles.
Hopefully as I have retired from watcmaking I have more time now to chat in the forums and make new friends.
Respectfully
Watchmaker

Hi everyone! My name is Nate Theocles (thee-ok-o-leez) and I am originally from a little town Called Wilbraham in Massachusetts. Though currently, i reside in Concord, North Carolina. I am goin on 21 years of age and have been hunting, fishing, trapping, and loving the outdoors since the age of 3.
I was raised by my grandparents and grew up on my great grandfathers farm. My uncle and grandfather showed me the way of the woods. My uncle is close friends with the benoit brothers and holds an equal rank as a deer hunter. It has been a blessing to follow in his footsteps. However, I am the only member of my family with an absolute infatuation for predator hunting; especially yote hunting.
I have claimed a few fox, countless opposum and squirrels, 4 coyotes and my fair share of deer. I love the meat but i have dreams about outsmarting old wylie. :wo: which has brought me to seek out this site. My experience with coyotes comes from calling for my uncle on countless setups, though he always insisted on taking the shots. I learned a lot about mouth calls.
After reading most of the other members bio's, i feel like i have found a fountain of knowledge :congrats: I am looking forward to meeting all of you and my ears are always open to advice. Kill it & Grill it :eyebrow:
Welcome to the board Bushmaster. If it is knowledge you are looking for, you may have very well found a new home.

Hey there, My name is Aaron Glenn I am 26 years old. I grew up in Oklahoma and decided to try out ole Texas about 4 years ago.
I've been hunting since I was about 10 and I went calling for the first time when i was 16 with a friend of the family that had been calling for about 20 years. I was hooked since that time and I now spend my time either hanging out with my wife and 4 year old son, or making predator calls out in the shop. I have got the chance to meet a lot of the guys on the forums and I enjoy talking to everyone of you guys. Feel free to shoot me an email . I guess that's about all I can think of at the time. Aaron

Hi! I'm Llee Hopkins and I live in Mesa, AZ. I have hunted and fished since I can remember. I killed acouple og coyotes when deer hunting but didn't hunt them until I came to AZ. I stated calling about three years ago. with not much success. Called in a few but never conected. We have to travel many miles to get to places where hunting hasn't put a lot of pressure on the animals. We also hunt only from late Sept. to late March out o respect for the new pups. I am also a gun nut. I us most center fire .22's and 12ga. shotgun with dead coyote T shot and a Carlton deadcoyote choke. I also use mouth and electronic callers. I will soon be moving To SC and am going to havt to learn new tactics. I am also thinking about using trailcams.
Welcome leehop.........quite a bio ya have there.
If your moving to SC, there's a couple guys here that know how to kill them. You're right though, it's gonna take a change of tactics.........

Another fine coyote hunter to look up is ol' Carolina Coyote. I'm hopen next year to give him a few lessons too. ;yes;
Now if you can learn from the mistakes of others there is ol' modest Keekee, aka Brent, who has a CD out about hunting in the East. He'd gladly sell ya it for twice what it's worth. :eyebrownod: Ain't nothing like getting an education watching Coyote Videos on the boob tube. If it weren't for them I wouldn't be as smart as I am today! :eyebrow:

Welcome Davis! Im looking forward to seeing some of your calls!
Brent
Welcome aboard Davis. You have come to a good place as we have some really good call makers posting here, some of the best anywhere. By the way, do you live anywhere near Dragerton, Utah. I bowhunted on the Wilcox Range Valley Ranch back in 1974 when Roy Hoff was writing the place up in all the archery magazines. "Wilcox Range Valley Ranch, where the deer come to the hunter" was the slogan back then. It was absolutely full of big mule deer back then, and we managed to get two nice bucks for three hunters. Funny thing was that the best shot of the three was the one to not score, the late Ed Bryant. He went to the national tournament three times, placing 7th, 5th, and 3rd in that order. Died of a heart attack at age 39 just before heading back to another national. Look forward to seeing your work. :highclap: :yoyo:
Welcome to FnF Mr. Davis :highclap: :highclap:
Looking forward to seeing some of your work.
Welcome ta FNF can't wait ta see yer calls :yoyo:
I just wanted to say this place kicks ass, every time I've had a problem or question more than one person has answered. So thank you everyone.
Jason,
That is what you should have happen at any site like this. Too bad it doesn't. Glad to have you here and keep asking your questions. It is the best way to learn.
Jerry
Welcome aboard Davis glad to have ya
Hi Folks,
This sight has a good feel to it, I have been looking at it for a couple of months, and want to become a part of it.
I am middle aged, live in east TN., Blount county, and have been hunting predators for just a few years. Fooling a predator is quite a challenge, but being able to access forums like this is not only
is helpful, but entertaining and relaxing.
Fly fishing the Smokey Mountains takes up most of my free time from April to November, then deer hunting the muzzle loader season, and before you know it is time to hunt grouse, followed closely by prime fishing conditions, now there is the added dimension of coyote and bobcats being thrown into the mix.......life is good. When my wife questions this schedule I am sympathetic, and tell her that I don't know why they have these seasons so close together.
So I am interested in predator hunting/calling techniques and the firearms being used, since the regulations here in TN often have me hunting with a weapon that would not be my first choice.
I look forward to becoming more familiar with everyone.
Chuck Kline
Welcome aboard Chuck..............glad to have ya sitting at the table.

welcome to the funny farm  this is a great place ta hang yer hat and enjoy :yoyo:
Just stumbled in from another forum . I have been trapping for several years now and figured is time I learned some new tricks for taking coyote . I am shooting a 22/250 with a 8X 32 X 42 with AO . I got introduced to the great outdoors by an uncle when I was big enough to wonder along . My trapping education didn't start until I was about 12 though and am 55 now . Still lots to learn about all phases for life . I now live in west central Illinois right close to the mighty Mississippi . The big city I live in has 5 houses in town it is between Stronghurst and Carman . We can hear the coyotes almost every night .
Looks like a fun and educational place to me .

I am 37 years old and have been married one time with my 1st anniversary coming up 21 Oct. 2007. I am a active duty Fleet Marine Force Navy Corpsman, currently holding the position of medical chief at a reserve center near my home town and 16 years of being a Nationally Registered Paramedic. also at camp Belinda resides one step son age 9 and one Jack Russel Terrier named Pete.

Not real sure what else to add, thanks for reading my Jibber-jab

Hi, my name is Joe Herrmann and I am 37 yrs. old ,I live in Owen County ,Ky. I am married to the best wife ever her name is Jenny and we Have been married for nine years, now have 4 children Joseph(8), Jessica(6) Julie(4) Baby Jacob(3mo.). We have a small 40 acre farm that we purchased in '98 because we were tired of trying to find a place to hunt and wanted to get out of the city and raise a family. We do alot of deer hunting for the pure fact that it is alot cheaper to feed a family with venison than beef plus the kids love it !. We also raise our own chickens for meat and eggs and have about 95 right now. I am self employed and have been for 8 yrs. I own a small Security Company that designs , builds and installs custom security and video surveillance systems for mainly commercial applications. I currently do work for Scripps Broadcasting, Paul Brown Stadium (Cinti Bengals), US postal service , State of OH rest areas and a few school systems in the Tristate. I have been hunting since I was 11 yrs old and have been an avid bow hunter for about 5 yrs. I started predator hunting a year ago (Bout the same time I joined FnF) it's a hole new game . Love the forums and the people here.

I gotta keep watch on this, a new feller from PA !! Welcome aboard all !!
Hi everyone, my name is David and I am from West Kentucky. I am 28 years old, sometimes feeling a little older than that. I am half owner in a small timber harvesting company. Yeah that's right, i am in the woods all the time. Its kinda funny some of the stuff you see while you are sitting on a log, while all the noise is going on. I have been married for 8 years, and have a little girl who is 7, and a little boy who is 2.
I have been predator hunting for about 12 years. I wish i could tell y'all i know everything about it, but i don't.. Seems like it is different from year to year season to season. I went to Spirit Lake Iowa to learn taxidermy when i was 18. I never have gone full time yet, but i am sure i will one day.. I love the outdoors, and i am sure that most of you hold the same passion.
I learned about this site when i googled coyote and lbl. I always heard that there was a hunt over there by a bunch of guys.. I have hunted there in the Feb. season, but have had no luck.. It is like a different country when you cross that bridge in to LBL. Not just the coyotes, but the other animals as well. So all in all, I really like this site, and i hope to see you all in Feb..
Be careful........ Dave
Welcome to the board Dave. You'll fit in just fine.
Got a heck of a crew lined up to head to the LBL already this year. Names posted in the LBL forum.
Make yourself at home, good to have ya on board and give a holler if ya need anything.
Hey Dave, welcome aboard. It's a fun place to hang out. I live a couple hours south of Spirit lake, I used to drive past the place a couple times a week. My friends wife went there too. Anyways, don't be shy, share some stories, pics, and join in. Scott
Dave,
We are all glad to have you here and feel like we know a little bit more about you now. Enjoy the site.
Jerry
I'm JB. I'm 45 years old, look 25 and act 15 :iroll:. I just got married in July to a great gal with two teenage girls. :whew: (Please keep me in your prayers!) We packed up and immediately moved to the Charlotte, NC area. Just a couple of weeks ago we added a German exchange student to our household. She's another she and she's another teenager! Somebody wake me up. The truth is, I love all these girls. They're the best thing that's ever happened to me.
Our previous home was down in Oconee County, SC. Yeah, I was right in there with ole' Centerfire_223 aka Ronnie. We did some calling together but not nearly our fair share. We plan to continue as best we can being 3 hours apart.
I'm originally from central VA where I spent my first 38 years. My calling started with gray foxes using a Murray Burnham rabbit tape. Didn't everyone? I eventually learned to use a diaphragm since it's hands-free. That's probably my standby call. I've had great results using Kee's Calls in the last two years. I think his howler is better than any I've heard.
Over the years I've made a trip or two out west for coyotes, bobcats or prairie dogs. I was lucky enough to go on a night hunt with Rusty Holt in west Texas. I plan to go back. I went to one of the VHA Jamboree events in Pierre, SD. That was a great time. I entered the shootout and did respectfully with my .220 Swift. That was the only competition shooting I've ever participated in but I have considered entering more of the informal shoots since then. I also spent a few years working in the Midwest. The nuclear industry took me to NW IL, and IA where I did a little coyote business with some of the locals. We chased and called coyotes in some very cold weather. One winter it was out to Nebraska for a month (1995 I think). While I was there I called after coyotes in both NE and MO. I was working at a nuclear station right on the Missouri River....beautiful country! I've never exactly mopped-up on the coyotes but I did kill a few. I came down with pneumonia two different times also. I have to blame that on coyote hunting in -16 degree weather.
I made it out to the LBL Hunt two years ago with Ronnie and met a bunch of you guys. I even killed a 3 legged coyote out there. I'm planning to come in 2008 as well so JD and Brent be ready. If we don't kill anything we know we'll eat good. :puke:
I love calling preds and I'm still anticipating my first bobcat. I read a lot of magazines and watch all the videos like the rest of us. I've been reloading for a number of years and have a real fondness for a tight-grouping .17 or .22 center-fire. I'm usually carrying a Model 7 .222 when I'm calling coyotes. I spend a lot of time playing guitar also. I've have almost as many guitars as guns. Fortunately I can play guitar if I get stuck indoors. I provided myself a lot of entertainment that way over the years. I've always liked vintage guitars and vintage rifles.
Lately I've been through a bushel basketful of changes. I guess we never know what God's plan is for our life. We just have to be available to Him. :bowingsmilie: He is in charge and his plan always works out better for me than the one I had in mind. Now we are in Mooresville, NC. I'm learning my way around this new family, new town & country side. I'm learning my new job. I'm looking for new hunting ground and calling partners in my new home. I've already received some PMs about hooking up so my hat is off to this great board. :highclap: Thanks to Fins and Fur I'll be calling coyotes in NC real soon....maybe I'll even bag my first bobcat.
As you can see though I'm have a problem with shyness and it's hard to get me to say anything. Just give me time, I'll come around.
I posted a couple photos of the family so you can put some faces with the story.

I try to find time to do more hunting but working seven days aweek family and trying to farm alittle its kinda hard there's not that must time in the day.But I made a mistake by trying my hand at calling yotes, Well that was about five years ago , Can't hardly get enough Its all I want to do now that its getting cold. Well that's enough for now .,
tn,
Thanks for the information and welcome to FnF. In a pinch some of us might be able to help with the farming, but the rows won't be straight and you won't know till it starts growing if we planted, beans, corn, or sunflowers. But you might be able to get some info on hunting predators - just post away and someone will try to help.

Hello everyone,
I am 33 years old and Married with a 3½ year old daughter. I live in Allegheny county in South western Pennsylvania. I have been a machinist for 12 years. I have been a Foreman in a tool & Die shop for 5 years. My interests are of course, hunting & fishing. my other interests are geocaching and camping, I have a 31' travel trailer that we try use every weekend during the summer.
I have recently joined the forums. I lurked in background for a few days and I really liked the information I was finding. I was led to this site by another great forum dedicated to my home state of pennsylvania, "Huntpa.com". I have recently become very interested in predator hunting. I have learned alot from the primers at the top of the predator hunting forum. I tried coyote hunting about 6 years ago with no success , I would like to change all of that. Now that I have asked some questions and read tons of posts in forums on the subject. I now realize that when I first tried this type of hunting I had absolutly no idea what I was doing...LOL.
That is enough of me rambling I will see you all in the forums.
Welcome to the site Dad.
There's a lot of us that have no idea what were doing. But we can put on a helluva show :laf:
Well welcome aboard there buddy, pull ya up a stool and tell me what kinda old calls ya have in the hunting bag.
Dad,
Glad to have you here. If you have questions, just post away, there are lots of members here who can help.
Jerry
Yipper, we can help ya. Now dump your call bag on the floor, put your hands up, and back away, this is call jacking. :laugh2:
Sorry, I tuely am, just in one of those moods today, and the addiction is getting the better of me.
Welcome aboard 'Dad. :congrats:
I know the site you're talking about, registered on there myself. ;yes; Woody made me do it. :sarcas3:
BTW what is geocaching?
Hello . crazy cottontail told me about this place. Said it had trapping, reloading, fishing, guns , well basically all the good stuff. I'm 36 been huntung and fishing scince I was knee high. Started calling yotes is 2000 and trapping in 2006. Started reloading in 2002. So I'm somewhat of a newbie on some stuff but pretty seasond on others. I also bowhunt.
Welcome otdrmn22250! Good to have ya!
Brent
I guess I never filled this out although I have been around for a little while. Reading much but not posting. Had an extremely busy summer.
I met quite a few of you at the LBL hunt last year. My real name is Andrew, my site name, ARSE, caused quite a stir, unintentional on my part. I guess I was pretty naive. I have not been any other forum really. I understand that it stands for ass. I got it as nickname in college because I told my team mates ( I swam for Western Kentucky University (about 80 lbs. ago) what I thought about them, when I thought it. Apparently, they would have appreciated a little more tact. That is something that I have had to work long and hard to learn and am happy to report that I have.
I have a wife and 2 boys 4 and 7 month (part of my busy summer). I am a packaging engineer at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana. We build the Tundra, Sequoia, and Sienna. We are the first and largest truck only plant for Toyota in the world. We employee ~ 5,000 team member in an over 4 million square foot building (something like 80 acres). I design and purchase all of the packaging that the parts travel to the plant in. Picture engines (that Toyota makes in Alabama and West Virginia (nothing from Japan) they travel to the plant on a metal rack that has a bunch of attachments to allow for the engines to travel from AL and WV without getting damaged. Everything that we package parts in is returnable. All racks and tote (for bolts) get returned to the supplier and then refilled and sent back. The rest of the story about my summer is that I worked to design and get built all of the packaging for the new Toyota Sequoia.
I enjoy the outdoors and have been coyote hunting for right around 1 year. Still have not killed one while hunting for them. I have killed one while deer hunting and also killed a bobcat this year. I have been deer hunting for 7 years and learned most of what I know about it from Semp. I am a bit of a gun nut. I am always buying and trading for one thing or another. I have been into 1911's lately and have a couple of Kimbers that I love.
That is about it.
I missed the LBL, so good to know a little more about you. Yea, 4, 2, and 7 months will keep you VERY busy.
Jerry
You're an engineer? :sarcas3:
If you're anything like the ones at work that would make you lazy, stupid, & a liar.
:wo: Ya hunt coyotes so your not lazy.
:wo: Ya buy Kimber 1911's so you're not stupid.
:wo: I haven't seen any pix of your deer, coyote, or bobcat so you could be a liar. :shck:
:roflmao: just ragging you Arse. Glad you're here. I've enjoyed your posts.
I need to send a big welcome out here. I hope it reaches a few pages back
Welcome to the site I know you will like it here lots of good info here and ya never know ya just might make a few friends.

Here it is in a nut shell:
Geocaching is a game/sport where you use a GPS receiver to locate hidden ammo cans in the woods and log your finds on this website http://www.geocaching.com/ check out the site and type in your zipcode. You will be amazed at how many are hidden close to home, there are probably some hidden in your local park, gamelands or any public areas.
Thanks for the welcome everyone,
As far as my calls I have a cassette tape JS model 512 long range caller. as far as mouth calls go, I have several different distress calls from knight & hale, primos and a few I can't remember (there out in the truck) That is the only time I can practice my calling skills, while driving alone in my truck....LOL. I am hoping to take a crack at this in the next couple of weeks now that deer season is over.
Welcome to the site otdrmn22250. You'll fit in just fine. Make yourself at home.
I'm going to split this thread right at your post and add it onto the thread running up in the Tailgate, titled Tell us about you (http://www.finsandfur.net/forums/index.php?topic=392.0), with the rest of the gangs introductions and then hopefully we wont have started a new trend to put em all in here.
My name is Jim Carez. I am from WV along the Ohio River not far from Marietta. I just started hunting coyotes here in WV in March of last year. I am a recently retired school teacher and I thought coyote hunting would be something I could do year round. I also enjoy deer hunting and groundhog hunting. So far I have done about 50 stands. I have called in four coyotes. The first two got away because I was too excited and didn't have the gun ready. I finally killed one in April and another in July. I'm really hooked. This year it just seemed that deer season interfeered with coyote hunting. I am registered on Predator Masters too. I'm new at this and trying to learn as much as possible. Lots of good information on this site. I am kind of hunting in a black hole here in WV. Don't know many others who hunt coyotes here though I'm sure there must be others around. I would really like to hook up with someone with more experience to hunt with. All four dogs I have got to come in came to an old closed reed Predator Call from Sears that I inherited from my step dad. I shoot a Colt AR-15 loaded with 60 gr. V-Max bullets. I also am the sec/treas of my local rifle club and shoot in IDPA matches at Ft. Harmar in Marietta. I also teach NRA concealed carry classes and am a scuba instructor and own Scuba WV Inc. . I appreciate any help you guys can offer. Thanks! Jim
Sorry Jim, we already have a retired teacher here that hunts deer & g'hogs. :noway:
JUST KIDDING!
Well, not totally. I mean we really do have a retired teacher here who hunts deer & g'hogs. ;yes;
You're not that far away we couldn't get together & I could show you how I learn how you get coyotes. :eyebrow:
Welcome aboard Jim! Ya might get some good info here as there are some of us who actually shoot a coyote every now & then.
Welcome aboard Frogman, where are you from Williamstown, Belmont ? I'm just down the road in Elizabeth.
Parkersburg. I administer a hunting lease of 1500 acres at Katy's Run near Creston. My wife is from Elizbeth, she is a Lynch from Palistine. I also have access to lots of good hunting property near Creston that belongs to my stepfather. I would like to hook up with a more experienced coyote hunter to help me learn the ropes.
I went to school at South. I have hunted in Creston before it's about a twenty minute drive for me.
My youngest son went to South. I taught at Martin Elementary til I retired two years ago. Wish this rain would stop so I could get out and do a few stands!
Welcome to the site Frogman.
Parkersburg! :shck: I go to Parkersburg 3 or 4 times a year. ;yes; Stop in at Woodcraft Store & drool directly on their tools. :eyebrownod:
Woodcrafters is a neat store. I got some nice knife sharpeners there.
Hey! I'm Brad Gainey, I live just south of Nashville TN. I've been happily married for 21 years, and am the proud father of 2 beautiful girls, 20 & 12. I'm a maintenance Tech. at Nissan been there 23 yrs. I've been hunting for 30+ years, but about 4 yrs ago I thought I'd give coyote hunting a try, after all these girls won't eat game anyway... Well it took me about a year to get my first Yote and I haven't been able to quit since. Never can take the time to hunt anything else anymore. I've even taken a couple of trips west to hunt'em. Used an e-caller for the first couple of years then started using mouth calls. I've got a little Jet metal lathe and had an old antler laying around and thought  I'll make a call myself. I had played around turning antler before (can't remember why) so I knew it turned pretty easy. I made a couple of calls and posted them on a TN forum. I thought they looked good until I saw what ya'll make, you guys are awesome :bowingsmilie: Ya'll are going to make me do better. Found your forum through a new friend ya'll know as Dirty Dog. I was complaining about some trouble I was having with the skip in my howler and he told me about all the call makers here. If it's ok I'd like to ask a couple questions. How do you get rid of the skips?? and where do you get the internal chucks?
Welcome to the site Brad. Happy to have ya amongst us.
Post those two questions over in the hand call forum, and you'll find yourself into some good reading

Hello everyone. My name is Jeremy. I am in the Army and currently stationed at Fort Carson, CO. I frequent a few other forums, but just found this one recently. I like to play around on the wood lathe a little and make a few calls. From what I have seen so far this is a great forum with a wealth of information. I look foreward to getting to know some of you.
Welcome to the site Jeremy I am sure you will like it here.
Jeremy,
Welcome to FnF. Thanks too for all you are doing to keep us safe.

Seriously this looks like a great site, and I would like to offer an open invite to anyone who would like get together for a hunt. Rich.
Howdy, another Pa brother, welcome aboard from Susquehanna Co. :yoyo:
WOW where have I been?
Well I have been a member of a lot of these hunting forum boards for a long time. But the last few years I have let work get in the way of all the fun.
I have been working 2 jobs for about 4 years. I switched jobs a little over 1.5 years ago but was still working 2 jobs. Well I quit one job in Oct. so it one job 40 hours a week. I was beginning to think the wife and kids were forgetting who I was.
I bought a home machine shop from a guy that came into one of the places I use to work. I now play as much as I can in my shop at home. I am trying to learn to do gunsmithing. I want to specialize in truing and accurizing the Rem. 700 bolt action rifles. I am working on a long action now. It will be my "bean field" deer rifle.
http://www.finsandfur.net/forums/index.php?topic=4348.0 (http://www.finsandfur.net/forums/index.php?topic=4348.0)
I was making predator calls and would like to start that again. I looked at the Custom Call Makers Showcase here and WOW Arky-Yoter Joe you have really raised the bar for all call makers!
I kind of had a wake up call last week. I had been having a little pain in my chest at work and mentioned to my DR. on my last visit. He sent me in to have a stress test. Well it didn't look good so last Friday 9 days ago now I had to go in and have a stent put in my main artery. It was 72% blocked. Everything went real good and I feel better. I have been off work for a week and will be off another week. Not use to being this lazy for so long. I am ready to get back to work. I have been playing in my shop a little this week.
I don't know if I will be able this year but I want to get back into calling coyotes. I want to head back to West Liberty and hunt with JD some more. I always have a great time with you and the country is beautiful there. It is like a whole different type of landscape only 1 hour away! May be even get together with you Brent for that hunt we talked about a couple years ago.
Hope my rambling hasn't gotten to long. I have been trying to catch up on all the stuff I have missed in the last couple years.

Hey, my name is Jesse Warner and I am 17 years old. I have been hunting with my dad since I was "knee high to a grasshopper" as they say but really my dad started taking me my first fall (i was born in july) and I guess you could say I,m obbsessed with hunting, all kinds which is why I started predator calling 'bout a year ago up here in the woods of Northern New york, after seing a bobcat near a crick-bottom that I deer hunt in. and everything just took of froom there. I have called in a couple of yotes, none close enough to lay 'em out with my boom-stick though.
Ah well someday
Welcome to FnF, fellers
Jesse,
It sounds like you have something that every predator hunter needs to be successful, determination and patience.
We want to see pics when you get your first coyote
Welcome to FnF lad!!
Welcome to FnF. It is always great to see a younger person getting started in the shooting area. I know you are not "just" getting started, but seeing how some of us started hunting 45 years ago, you are just getting started.

Welcome to the board folks glad to have ya
Hello
My name is Tommy Taylor I am 31 years old and live in Saint Joseph Missouri. I have a wonderful wife of 7 yrs and together we a wonderful daughter who is 4. If any of you have seen the animated movie barnyard, the one with the scary coyotes my daughter loves the fact that I hunt those scary coyotes. Dont you just love the world through the eyes of a 4 yr old. My wife is 8 months pregnant with our second child "another girl" who is do in early february. I am really excited.
I grew up in the flint hills of kansas with a wonderful family and 1 older sister who recently passed away from cancer. As a youngster we would set traps and call for coyotes as part of our daily chores, seemed old at times but found how much I really liked once the speed of life did not allow me to hunt as much. The reason I hunt coyotes is simple. Out of pure respect there is nothing else on the face of the earth that has drive any stronger to survive than a coyote.
I started making custom calls about a 1 yr ago and truly love it. "Taylormade custom calls" Thanks for your time and a thanks to those who keep this site going. So pass it on and always give a fair chase!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tommy Taylor

Hey y'all! I am Gordy Miller. I grew up in Kentucky. I have hunted Coyotes in Wyoming, Arizona, Tennesse, Kentucky and Virginia (where I now live). I have hunted the LBL since 1980's and the LBL February coyote season since 2001. I cut my teeth on trapping and hunting fox in the 70's. I hunted coyotes around Ft. Campbell during the mid 80's. I am familiar with some of you guys from the other board, where Kee Kee and Jimmie in Ky were staff. Glad I found y'all here at FnF. I might run into some of y'all at LBL this year.

I'll hunt anything that is legal. The greater the challenge the more fun. I have been married for 10 yrs and have two chuldren, 7 and 9. I coach Baseball and have a traveling baseball team.
I have recently started coyote hunting and have found it to be very challenging. I started off on Jan 1, 2008 and shot my first at ten yds. She was about 35lbs. Gorgeous animal. I am very interested inlearning more and intend on joining the 2008 LBL hunt.

Hi my name is Devin, I live in south eastern Wisconsin. This is my fourth season calling coyotes and it keeps getting more and more fun for me. I also hunt deer with both gun and bow, although since I have started calling coyotes and getting better at it I dont bow hunt as much anymore. work is also getting very busy for me during prime bowhunting and I don't have time to deal with a deer after the shot from sep-early nov, which is why I do more calling.
Aside from hunting I love to fish and spend time with my family. I have been married for 3.5 years and we have a 3year old son and one on the way in may.
WELCOME dogduster and the rest of you guys I missed. Hope you stay and enjoy it here.

My name is Randy Thomas and I am 37 years of age. I have been married for 6 years and have two awesome boys one is 3 yr. and the other is 1 yr. I moved to Western Kentucky in Aug. of 07'. I was born and raised in the Cascade mountains of Oregon and bounced between there and Idaho as well as Montana. I am a timber faller by trade and have supplimented that with big game guiding for the past 20 years. Until I moved to KY, I was an avid hound hunter. Bobcats were my main game but I also did alot of Bear and Lion hunting in the early years. When I moved to Kentucky I was faced with coming up with a good winter time activity. No longer owning hounds I decided that I would try my hand at some predator calling. I have called extinsively over the years for elk, and have always loved rattling in those Idaho Whitetails. Calling for Coyotes just seemed like a natural progression. I live about 30 minutes from the LBL so I have spent way to much time over there during the last year or so. For a guy from the Western mountain states, the LBL is a real blessing; without some room to roam I would be in serious trouble. Originally I was deer hunting the heck out of that place, and in doing so I noticed the large number of yotes running around over there. Last Feb. I managed to call in a dozen dogs over there, and needless to say I was hooked. My oldest son loves to go hunting with me, and I love to take him. It is easy to show him plenty of deer and turkeys in the LBL but getting him to sit still long enough to call in a yote has proven to be a challenge. His time is coming though. I sure am glad that I found this site. I really enjoy reading the posts and I have managed to make some ne friends in the process. I sure miss my Oregon home but we're making the best of it here in KY.
Welcome Randy!! Hope you enjoy the Forums!!

Hi
I'm finally new thanks to Jim and his computer wisdom. My name is John from Elk County, PA. I just retired from teaching high school Biology and advanced science topics. I dove into, jumped mercilessly, and was devoured by coyote hunting 3 years ago and spend much of my retired time in the woods trying to entice one to a shotgun buffet. Other interests are my wife, bow target shooting and hunting, and bass fishing. Glad I could be a part of this group.
Welcome aboard John.
I can't take all the credit. You were smart enough to know how to take screen shots.....so I could see what was happening over there.
That pretty much pinned things down
Oh Lawdy :doh2: Another retired teacher. :rolleye: Well, iffen your like the others we gots here you just might make a fine addition. ;yes;
Welcome aboard John! :congrats:
John,
Glad to have you here and another retired educator is always welcome.

I'm Bill Harding and at 70, I'm older than dirt. Been hunting since 6 when there were no deer or coyotes here in Ohio. Still hunting & fishing and chasing my Mountain Cur after squirrels or anything else she bounces. I'm retired as a writer/producer/photographer and now make a couple extra bucks writing a weekly column for a newspaper Morning Journal) and also for a twice monthly outdoor paper, (Fish & Field Report). Just now getting very serious about coyotes and have a lot to learn. I already have learned that they are pretty darn smart.
Welcome fellers....
Glad to see you here.
Jerry
Another PA rep, good deal :yoyo:
Welcome aboard
Hey Star1pup! Good to see ya here.
Mountian Cur? I thought you had an Airedale? What type of Mt Cur you have? I have a Kemmer Stock. You'll have to check out the Pick-o'- Litter forum here.
You'll have to pardon me, but I don't remember what part of Ohio your in. I'm in the east central side at Dover.
Yeah I had an Airedale and Star was the best bird dog I ever had the pleasure to join in a hunt. She also would tree a squirrel, groundhog or anything else I wanted to hunt. She developed bone cancer and was just 5-years old when I had to make the decision we all hate. She went to sleep in my arms and I still get wet eyes thinking about her. I wanted to stay away from the same strain of Airedale as I heard others of that strain had some sort of cancer. I didn't want the heartbreak of losing another dog and almost didn't get another. Then I heard about mountain curs.
Scooter (I know. It's a funny name for a girl) is out of an original mountain cur line that I found through the World Tree Dog Association owner. She's a smaller cur of about 35 pounds, but tough as nails. When we're not hunting squirrels and things she lives in the house with us and is really spoiled. Got her down in Buckannon (sp?) WV.
Maybe I get too attached to my dogs, but aren't they great creatures? God sure did a nice job when he made dogs.
Bill
Can't argue with ya there Bill

I am now 40, a veteran, have an MS degree, and work as a case manager and freelance writer.
I love to hunt and fish most anything, I fly rod most of my fishing and hunt with a compound bow, long bow, shotgun, very much into handgun hunting, go after crows, waterfowl, big game, small game, I like it all. I also hunt with a camera. Thats about it, I look forward to checking out the site.

Hey guys. My name is Erick and I live and hunt in downeast Maine. My favorite things to do are traditional bowhunting for deer, predator calling, trapping and trout fishing.
Looks like a nice board you guys have hear and I hope to learn how to become a better coyote hunter here in the north east.
Welcome Erick! You seem to like some of the same things we do. Think you will like it here.
Welcome to the site Erick :congrats:
Welcome fellers I am sure you will like it here
HI everyone, I am doing this alittle bakward but I do like it here and I think I will stay :eyebrownod:I have never said that about any of these boards, however this one is real nice.
I live in wood county West virginia and have been hunting and fishing all of my 42years on this earth.
I was introduced to coyote hunting in the early 1990's and got real serious about it the past several years. I have called more coyotes in that other people have shot than I have killed myself. I have another passion turkey calling, I have killed many but nothing satifies me more than to call one in for a newbie and whatch them kill it! In the last few years I have lost count of the birds I have called in for others. I have a small web page and make a few calls turkey and coyote calls alike. My most satisfactory hunt was when I made a box call from a tree off of my farm and called in the biggest gobbler I have taken so far 11 1/2" beard. I have had 5 bears come to a coyote set and numerous Bobcats though they were not in season so I passed some real close ones. I used to guide a little in northern Ohio on public land and steelhead fishing near lake Erie.... There is more but I am trying to say I would rather hunt than to breathe :eyebrownod: :eyebrownod: :eyebrownod:
And I can see that I am not alone here and I look forward to your tales and advise.

Thanks for the reply's everybody. I am sure that there are people in any different category that have more expertice than me but hopefully I can bring a rounded touch to things and not make an ass of myself. I should forewarn everybody that I am a bit of a wiseacre with a dry sense of humor so PLEASE nobody take anything I say too seriously. I actually came over from another board that was griping about this one so I thought "if they are bitching about this spot then maybe that is where I should be".

Hey Carl, Hows things been going with ya? Haven't seen around for a while, but glad ya pulled up a chair.
My name is Mike Smith. I live in Tyler County West Virginia. We are almost perfectly between Parkersburg and Wheeling. I have been hunting since my grandad started taking me squirrel hunting and taught me to shoot when I was about six. Took to whitetails when I was twelve, got bored with that and started using a muzzleloader on them, got bored with that and have been using a revolver for the last 4 years. Been turkey hunting since I go out of the Navy in 1987. Now that we are starting to get a huntable population of 'yotes, I thought the challenge might be nice.
I am a Christian and a family man. I have a wife of 19 years, a son 22 years old, a son 11 years old, and a daugher 7 years old. I am a lineman for the power company and when I'm not doing that, I am farming or taking my 11 year old hunting since he has the addiction now. My daughter has been hounding me to go shooting and hunting soon. Gotta lover her. She'll make someone a good wife some day.
Frogman clued me in to this site and I came to soak up info and to have fellowship with guys of like mind.

Frogman is a great guy. We have shot together (IDPA) and now that our stompin' grounds are starting to overlap, I hope to hunt with him soon. He just got permission to hunt some property close to me, so I would like to have him over so we can put our heads together on some properties I have access to.
msmith,
Good to see you here. :congrats: I have enjoyed this forum and learned a lot from these guys. :yoyo: They have always responded to some of my newbie questions with some really good info. Hasn't seemed to have improved my kill to stand ratio a bit though. :rolleye: I guess I'm just a slow learner. I hope to get up there next week to check out that farm we discussed on the phone. Thanks for all of the welcomes.
I got a good snicker from the easy comment, as well. Back in my younger days I used to work for a large electronics manufacturer. I used to frequent the floor and would constantly get harassed by these old blue hairs working on the lines (and secretly loved every minute of it) and heard just about every proposition known to man. My favorite comeback was always that I was easy but not cheap. the old gals never did quite know what to thin k of that one.
If I'd have said that 10 years later I'd probably be typing this from the prison library.

Welcome aboard LordDal.
Welcome, I hunted with frogman last night.
If you put a frog on wet red clay...........He can dance! :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:
I suppose I should chime in with my particulars. 45 years old, concrete contractor, and I live in the Bermuda triangle of Ohio ( 15 minutes to PA, or WVA. ). 4 Great kids, from 20 to 6.....( 20-6=14) 7 year itch maybe ? :innocentwhistle: I hunt, fish, shoot, and on occasion have a drink or two.
After looking at this I just realised my youngest is going to be 7 this summer I better go see doc snip. snip !
Welcome Kurt Glad to see you are still amongst the living
Oh yes we do aloud drinking here although we can't be rasponsible for the spray on the computer screen or the
slober on the keyboard.
Thought I better get on here too. I'm 50 years old and have 4 children 23,19,10 and 7 who all like to hunt and fish. I haven't had a drink in 23 years and I'm not going with the snip thing. :pout: I have my own custom pesticide application business so I get over about 100,000 acres of crop land a year with my sprayers[what a great way to get permission].
Welcome to the site pitw.
Quite an age range of children you got there. I'm sure they keep you MORE then busy :laf:
Not as busy at the moment with the kids as I am trying to get 25 posts on here. :laf: The two oldest came along with my wife 15 years ago.
Newbie here from Montana. I'm a avid hunter (bow & rifle) and also a die-hard ice fisherman.
Pretty new on the Predator hunting so far , but I'm enjoying every minute so far. Great site :thumb2:
Welcome aboard tipmover. Sounds like you'll fit right in.

Tipmover, are you anywere close to Glendive Mt?
I usually don't do these info threads but like what I've seen of Jim Champion on this board and his previous gig, and like this board enough to hope it goes well.
I'm a codger, over 60 and can't believe I've lived this long. Earliest memories were of my dad carrying me on his shoulders to hunt squirrels or follow the hounds in E. OK. We moved to E. WA when I was 5. By age 12 I'd added coyotes to what I hunted, and started calling them as a teenager in the 60's. I've been fortunate to hunt as a resident in places from Southern California to BC in Canada. Calling animals has been a lifelong hobby. I've called more than 30 species not counting waterfowl and add a new one now and then. I'm not a great shot especially since I picked up a thyroid shake, so like close shots at still or slow moving game. So I call.
Within the past two seasons have called and either killed or passed a shot on caribou, black bear, mule deer, whitetail, blacktail (only counting bucks here) lynx, bobcat, and coyote. Called both wolf and cougar inside of 60 yards last season but didn't get a shot. Have also called at other times moose, elk, grizzly, fox and a call made the difference in getting a mountain goat. Also like to fish, mainly salmon and trout these days though have hammered pike and walleyes a few times. Love to kayak, especially when towed by a salmon.
Thoroughly married to one woman for 40 years this summer, three kids who turned out way better than their dad, and 8 grandkids with another on the way. I am blessed.
Welcome,........Great bunch of folks on here. I think highly of them.
Welcome back Okanagan
Hi all,
I guess I ought to have done this a while back, but better late than never, and all of that. Registered here right around the beginning of this year, but have not posted until now. I have spent a good bit of time reading and trying to learn stuff here, there is lots to absorb. I always try to spend some time studying at boards like this before saying too much, to try to avoid too much "stoopid noob syndrome" type posts. Though I am, in fact a Stoopid noob, I try not to act like one, so much as I can avoid doing so.
I got motivated to post SOMETHING because last night, as I was on-line here reading, another member took the time to bother to PM me just to say "Hey Dude, good to see you here". I can't yet PM you back, but you know who you are, I'm sure. Thanks for that, I appreciate the welcome, and it got me off of my butt.
I am located in NE Massachusetts right near the NH border. I am a long time shooter and hunter, though my hunting activity was pretty dormant until a few years ago. I have done a bit of predator with a friend once or twice, and despite the fact that we saw nothing, I want to do more. Which is what brought me here. I've been reading lots about calling and such, and am planning to try applying what I have picked up this fall when the season opens. Took up and did a bit of trapping for the first time last year, got 7 decent beavers for my trouble. I've got lots to learn there, too.
I'm an engineer by trade, married, bunch-o-kids, ordinary enough to qualify as "boring."
Thanks for all of the info that is posted here, these boards are amazing storehouses of knowledge.

Welcome, hope you enjoy your time here and feel free to share we could all learn something.
Thanks for the welcome, guys. Time will tell just how much of a "born predator hunter" I turn out to be. It took me enough years to get my first deer that my
wife started calling me "the benign hunter". That hurt. I will jump in here as time allows. Life is pretty busy these days.

I guess it is time that I come out of the shadows as a guest. I finally logged on after a long time of just reading everyones posts. I am not into posting very often. So don't look for any long stories from me.
I live in eastern Montana. I am in the same town as Brad H. We get together once in a while for a few cold ones. My live revolves around hunting and fishing. That is about all I do. I have shot a .17 remington for ever until this last spring I just purchased a .204. I will see how that goes this fall. I would do alot more if I didn't have to work. It seem to get in the way. I have hunted coyotes(calling) for around 20 or years. I do as well as the next guy in Montana.

hello all, My name is Chris Toole, Currently live in Lakeport Ca. I work for the Forest Service, I'm a captain on a twenty person hand crew (fire fighter). Have been hunting coyotes since 1991. I got started in central Montana, just drive around and shoot when you see them. then I met a government trapper and he taught me how to call them. Way more fun that way, and cheaper on gas. I was married, I have one daughter shes 8 going on 20, but she called her first coyote last winter, now I think I have a new hunting partner, because she wants a new gun, luck me just picked one up at the predator expo.
Welcome nor-cal yote.....and congratulations on your prize. Good luck with your new hunting partner.
Pat
Chris,
Welcome again. We are a good bunch of guys who enjoy havin fun. It was a pleasure to meet you at the Expo. Hopefully our paths will cross again. Especially if you are planning on making that way long trip to the LBL.

My name is David Pruett and i live in Spartanburg, South Carolina. I am 34 and am married with two children. Jackson 2 and Emily is 4. The are great.
I work for a company called Fastenal. We are the largest distributor of fasteners in North America with over 2000 store locations. We are ranked like 8th in industrial supplies. There is probably one in your home town.
I have hunted and fished ever since my dad taught me early in childhood. I grew up across from a neighborhood lake that was 28 acres and i spent all of my time on it bass fishing. I have been a deer hunting fanatic since I was 15. I have taken probably over a 100 deer and it just isn't the same to me anymore. I still love it but don't have the drive to go anymore.
I am new to coyote hunting and it has kicked me in gear. It is tough. I have not officially killed one yet but did shoot one last year in DEC.07 and lost it. I am ready for another chance. Since I have been buying calls and watching videos and just absorbing all the information I can to become good at it.
I have been on the site for about 2-3 months now. I love it here and everyone is nice. I nejoy reading the post and seeing the pictures. It good to be a part of this.

I just started hunting last year, and pretty much fell in love with it. I hunted with a gun last year, but decided that archery was more for me. This year i plan on getting a lot more hunting done, starting turkey season! i love being outside as much as i can, and love watching nascar. Jimmie Johnson's my man :laf: and again i'm the only one that enjoys that too. haha

Hey nate, it's sean. You still around? Havent heard from you in a couple months.
Been a long time reader, joined a few days back and thought I 'd better post something before I was shown the door. Mostly a predator caller, have two of Hawks Feathers calls that I bought a long time ago. Enjoy small game and upland bird hunting also plus I always make time for big game season and then there is fishing. Did I miss anything? I'm an outlaw from PM as I imagine some of you are too. Been calling predators for over 50 years, and have come to the conclusion that they are getting smarter and I am getting dumber.
Glad to be here, see ya around the campfire from time to time.
Welcome aboard John, you outlaw you. We're not really outlaws as much as we are segregated from PM.
We to like all the things ya do, but I'm worse off............I'm to dumb to out smart the damn worm when it comes to putting on the hook.

Thanks for the welcome, appreciated.
New guy here, from Texas. Been varmint hunting since my teens and I'm in my late 40's now. However, I took a several year hiatus due to striper fishing on Lake Texoma, lol. It's very addicting also. The big boats and waves have done a number on my back and neck, so I think I'll stay on land, or very calm water. Heard about the site thru another varminter hunter/ call maker here in Texas and thought I'd check it out. Hope to share some stories here before too long as this weather gets cooler.

Just joined up yesterday. Cool site. Grew up hunting and fishing in Rural Northwest Wisconsin, but have lived in Texas since '82. I hunt both states and enjoy the various hunting and shooting forums on the net. They get quite expensive to hang around!, but have met quite a few really great folks through them. The Dallas/Fort Worth area is home.

That"s what's great about hangin' around here. I can't see where anybody pushes much of anything, product wise, around here. It's all about the people, especially kids. On the other hand, you might be tempted to break the bank on some of the custom calls these guys make. They are pieces of art!

Welcome!!

My name is Allen Bodenheimer from NC and I am new to FnF and to predator hunting. My son, Wesley, and I began deer and small game hunting 7 years ago when he was 9 and have expanded to pursue anything that will get us out of the house together. Recently that has been turkey and now predator hunting and I have learned that the best way to learn anything is to surround yourself with people who know more than you do so here we are. We heard about this place from an Easterncoyotes.com video and have already learned a lot from just reading posts. I have already found out that hunting here in the east is a little different than all the videos from Neb. and Arizona show, but i am looking forward to learning something new because it is all about time in the field with friends and family.
Welcome aboard!
A bunch of the folks here are out on the annual LBL hunt right now so things are a little slow but stick around! They should all be back on soon.
Three new members in three days! Man this place is hopping ... Welcome to F-N-F folks! Drag up a stump and sit a spell. It gets real interesting at times!

Howdy everyone. I'm 45 years old and live in West Virginia. I love to hunt ,fish and trap. Married to a great wife and have a great daughter (who also loves to hunt and fish , but is not much into trapping yet) and can shoot a lot better than me.
I hunt deer, turkey, bear, rabbits, fox, geese, just about everything that walks , crawls, or flies. Love trapping, called in a ton of foxes over the years but only a few yotes. Like to make knives , tan hides, anything to do with the outdoors.
A few of you know me as Doc. Thanks for allowing me to join.

Welcome to FnF bb!!
My name is Anthony, i am 23 years old and I live in Susquehanna P.A. i lived in the country all my life just bought a house and moved in the middle of town about 6 months ago so i like any thing to do in the woods like, hunt, ride four wheelers and love to fish. My favorite thing to do is spending time with my family i have a girlfriend (getting married this may) and a daughter that turns 2 February 26. she already loves the boat. i just started coyote hunting but really enjoy it even tho i didn't get one yet.
Welcome aboard.......any friend of Vic is a friend of mine....
Hi, my name is Rod Pelson. I live in Cape Meares on the Oregon coast about 8 miles west of Tillamook where they make that famous and delicious vein clogging Tillamook cheese. I'm older than dirt (almost 70) and have been hunting all my life, but I've only recently taken up coyote hunting. Great fun, especially when they get all excited and respond with lots of back-talk.
As one might guess, I'm retired. I spend a signifcant portion of my time fishing, hunting, trail riding ( dirt and trail bikes), heavily into do-it-yourself and just generally enjoying being retired. I just finished a 45+ mile hike with a group of hiking buddies down the wild section of the Rogue River in southern Oregon. Fantastic views of the river, wildflowers, wildlife (black bears, deer and assorted birds and other critters).
Married to the same lady for 44 years, two grown children (40 & 37) and five grandchildren ages 7 to one year. The oldest says he wants to go coyote hunting sometime soon. His parents concur, so this summer, we are off to the woods for that first hunt.
Have been doing a bit of woods wise survival training with the oldest grandson. Just some initial stuff...like how to build a fire and what basic food one wold need. He thought marshmellows would be a good start. Perfect!
My lady and I have a place in the mountains of northern California as well, so we travel back and forth between the two places (about 600 miles every couple of months) depending upon what's going on. So we go from sea level to about 4700' on a regular basis.
That's about it for now. I've left a ton of stuff out. don't want to bore.
Great website. Most enjoyable.
Hi Rod!! Welcome to FnF!! Jump in with both feet & don't be shy!! :yoyo: :yoyo:

Howdy y'all !!!
Hunting & Fishing is right up there with breathing and eating!! Crappie & Catfish for some reason just can't wait to get into the boat with me! But I also love to fish for sandies (white bass), and bluegills and even them bass from time to time. Every once in a while I'll head south and do some saltwater fishing in the Gulf. My favorites there are redfish, sea trout, and sheepshead. When it comes to hunting I'm all up for wild hog, deer, elk, bear, and them varmints (fox, coyote, etc.)!! And let's not forget them birds --- pheasant, duck, quail, etc.!!!!
Originally from East Texas (Canton) but now living/working in the DFW Metromess. So if you're in the DFW metro and would like to go hunting/fishing I'm all up for it!
See y'all on the boards and quite possibly in the field or on the water!

I still cant afford an electronic caller, maybe if I stopped spending so much and reloading. oh yeah, I love to shoot too. I own several sweet rifles, a CZ 527 Lux in 223 rem, thats an absolute tack driver, a Rem 700 Varmint in 22-250 (brand new, hoping to cristen it at the LBL Hunt with you all). good stuff. Glad to be here. heres a few pics of some fur:

My name is mamaTain, or MaryAnn. I am the mother of (Joe) securpro and the mother-in-law of Jenny, his wife. I am also the grandmother of Joseph (patriotson@gmail.com) and Jessica (gadsdengirl@gmail,com). Also, I am the grandmother of Julieanne and Jacob....soon to be members.
This is the most confusing forum I have ever been on, I an securpro's mother and grandmother to patriotson99 and gadsdengirl01. I can not yet reply to their messages. How do you do that....just reply and let me know?
They took off for the 2011 LBL 2011 Hunt this morning or yesterday maybe....they never told me....and I wasn't informed. Either/or I would have loved going with them. but apparently I was not even considered. I am not that damn old I couldn't match the best of rest of the fellows going.
I don't like all those confusing icons above.....d0n't care about them.....just want to make my point and reply to messages as I see fit
.
Would love to hear from securpro and family!
You can't send messages until you have 25 posts, it is a security measure to prevent spammers as I understand it.
Tikaani's right.
None the less, welcome to the board Mama.
That just sounded wrong :doh2:...is it ok to call you Mama? :laf:
Oh, OK.....gotcha!
Thank you Jim Champion.....heard a lot of good things about you via securpro. Joe named me mamaTrain way back in '98. You can call me mama, train or mamaTrain..all works well with me.
I don't get on here very often, so bit ignorant and confused how things work.....and just really intested in pictures he posts or something the kids do. Haven't heard from them since leaving their place last Thursday and just wondering when they left, how things are going, when they will be back and what's up. I'm sure you understand if your a parent....or worse if a grandparent. Not sure if they will be staying longer or what
Fully understandable ma'am. And we actually get people wondering the same thing every year about this time.
Did Fins and Fur eat my husband, did he make it to this gathering, where's my son, how come no ones mentioning anything, etc.
Rest assured the guys are having the time of their lives, and are probably safer there then a lot of them are at home because of the mass amount of comradry that is often compelled with such a tight knit group.
But it also needs to be mentioned that there is no Wireless signal down there for internet, or cell phone. They would have to travel into town to get a signal. Which hinders their communication with us back here.
Also, I'm sure a few of them will start straggling back in tonight, with it being Sunday and all. And we'll all be reading about how things went through the words of a few as they slowly arrive back home.
I'm pretty sure most of them will be heading straight to the The Annual LBL Hunt Forum (http://forum.finsandfur.net/index.php?board=31.0) to fill us in on their adventure, as they do get back home. Which is accessible from the front page...about half way down.
Thank-you Mr Champion......I very much appreciate your comment and explanation......just wish I could erase some of my comments as securpro won't be too happy with me, but what can I say or do now....nothing. I know they were all excited about going down there...even the youngins' and I just can't wait to hear their stories.
Thanks again

Welcome to FnF from a fellow Volunteer. :thumb2:
No one, that I know of, was born a natural predator hunter (although I often believe CCP was raised by coyotes). Don't be afraid to ask questions, you'll find a good bunch of folks here that are willing to help. ;yes;

Hey All!!
I'm Kim, and I found your forum while looking up hide tanning, my son and I are tanning our first beaver pelt this week, so far so good:)
I'm not a hunter but my family (4 kids and hubby) take care of that department. I'd rather cook it. We're from the Canadian prairies, nice to meet you all here!!!
Welcome Kim. Being from the Canadian prairies is a good thing .
Welcome to FnF, Kim! The guy that runs this place can probably answer any question you might have about tanning. ;yes;
And we LOVE Canadians here. :eyebrownod:
Welcome aboard Kim. Were happy to have ya. :congrats:

canada eh! awesome, welcome.
I'm just kind of fanning out onto new forums. I live in Meridian, Idaho with my wife and 2 sons. I've been a school teacher for the past 11 years, but worked in construction for 12 years before that. I overlapped the two for about 8 years which is way too much work. :laf:
I've been predator hunting off and on for about 20 years. I dug in hard about five years ago, and would be hard-pressed to tell you why. I know I love it. I use both hand calls and electronic. In the last 4 years, I've also tanned most of what I shoot during fur season. I seem to enjoy turning out a decent wallhanger nearly as much as hunting what wears it. I look forward to meeting some of you.

Guys and gals,
Welcome to F&F!! Great bunch of people here!
Jim
I taught fifth grade my first two years then made a move to another city and taught sixth. I loved fifth grade - they were old enough to understand my sense of humor and also didn't think they were the "Kings and Queens" of the building. Fourth grade is about the same as fifth when I taught, except for the state and national tests. Have fun this year in the new grade level. The biggest problem will be that the fourth graders won't know much - your students ended as "starting fifth grade" and you new ones will be "starting fourth grade" and that two year gap will show up.
From the looks of the pictures you have done well with the badgers and several other species as well.
Jerry
Welcome aboard you look like the Badger killing machine! You wont find a better group of guys anywhere im sure you will fit rite in.

Welcome to the site Badgerman
I was gonna say I dont think we have many teachers, but I do know of two principles :eyebrownod:
I see one of them found you.
I can appreciate your furrier skills. I ran an independent tannery for a little over 12 years.
You'll fit in just fine here.
Those are some mighty fine looking hides you got there. The Badger mount is cool!! :yoyo: :yoyo:
Badgerman, welcome to the family.
Thanks for the warm reception folks. Just so you know, I didn't do the badger mount. The tanning yes. Jim, I think I've heard of you before. I don't know if it was online, through other hunters/friends, or when I lived in SE MN. But your name rings a bell. Decent site you guys got here. I need to familiarize myself with it. Please bear with me if I post stuff in not quite the right place. I'm sure I'll catch on soon enough. I'll try to mind my etiquette :laf:
Chad Anderson (aka HVY DROP)
Retired US Army. Still working for Uncle Sam. Live in Eastern NC, but have hunted in a few other states since I first started hunting way back in the mid-80s. Anyway, I am looking forward to being able to link up with a few of the guys on here in my neck of the woods to put some fur down in between trips outside the country. I am shooting my 30-30 for deer, but really love hand callin' predators and puttin' down with my 25-06.
Welcome to FnF, Chad.

Hello Everyone,
I am a 44 year old hunter and fisherman from New Brunswick, Canada. As you can tell from my location, I hunt the Eastern Coyote. I am hoping to learn some new techniques from the members and maybe (no guarantees) I can help answer questions that someone may have on the coyotes in New Brunswick.
Thanks for having me,
Darren
Darren, welcome... glad to have you.
Cold up there yet?
Yea, Darren, we are glad to have you here. There are several that have some knowledge about the Eastern coyote here (I am not one of them). Enjoy your time here.
Jerry
Hello coyotehunter_1...thanks for the welcome.
It is -10 °C or 15 °F tonight but we have no snow.
Not common for this time of year.
Thanks Jerry...I can always use the help.
That's plenty cold enough for this ol' boy from the southern U.S. I've traveled to Alaska but I haven't made it into Canada yet... someday maybe.
Chet
We would be happy to have you Chet.....brings the long johns and sweaters for this time of year.
Cold weather does help the coyote hunting in these parts at least.
Darren
Welcome to FnF Darren.

I wondered how I was going to get in touch with you and let you know we had a problem when the forum informed me that your yahoo address was a dud and that the registration email failed to go. Most likely a spelling error or typo in the address but tough to correct on this end to get the message through.
I had deleted the email address. Reactivated it so i could receive the new password.

Hello. Looks like I see a few familiar folks here. Thanks for inviting me Kevan.
I'm Jason, All my life since childhood I've been hooked on the outdoors. I hunt whitetail, Turkey, migratory, predators, upland and small game. I've used about every kind of weapon to do so from longbows to high powered rifles and everything in between....though my biggest passion in hunting is with my longbow.
Love to fish with the main species being crappie, flathead cats, walleye, and redear sunfish.
Have trapped for years now but the last few years have been held to a few furs to use personally and nuisance animals.
Hope to get to know some good folks here!
Welcome! Sounds like our kinda people!

No, the wriggleys double mint really helped with that. The delay is mainly from me not being used to the notifications on the new forum software yet. I usually forget to look.

Yes there are a few reasons. 1st, I forgot my password (I'm elderly & on my last Depends). Secondly, I'm now living elsewhere & using a diff pc/address. Lastly tell snafu he is so short. I thought he was standing in a chuck hole. hehehe
