Another day on the water...

I made it out yesterday for a few hours to see if my fishing luck would be better than my coyote calling luck. It's better but not by much, though I did catch a couple of nice fish. Started out the day in a new area of the lake, sort of prefishing for an upcoming tournament. On the third cast I managed to catch my first fish of the morning. A nice 17" largemouth. So I was thinking today is going to be the day.

Only took another couple of casts to put this nice spotted bass in the kayak and that is where it stopped. Sun came out and the bite was over. I couldn't buy a bite after that. Oh well it was fun while it lasted.

Normally around late March or early April. You will see some fish early on the full and new moons. The water yesterday was 46 degrees and that first fish I caught was in 2-3 feet of water. If you look at the first picture, I caught that fish off of the end of the concrete boat ramp. My kayak was sitting in 6 feet. I was marking tons of stripers in about 50 feet of water. Normally I don't fish for those unless they are schooling.

Am surprised at the water clarity. I thought that y'all never had much for clear water.

I am confused about all the kinds of bass down your way. Is this pic below what you are calling a striper? My cousin in OK where we caught the fish below last spring called it a sand bass.

From what I can tell that is a hybrid, though it could be a striper. We have both in our lakes.

I dont think thats a hybrid. Hybrid stripers have distinct lines near the top that are clearly broken and noticeably staggered. The fish is also short in length, like a football shape.
Regular Stripers have distinct lines also near the top that are barely broken if at all. In fact they look like much straighter lines.

Ronnie I cant believe your water. lol Were drilling through 2 foot of ice in most places.

that's a white bass, although over in AR they call'em stripers but that is a white...

More nice bass Ronnie!! I'm hoping to get out for some musky here if I can get a warm Saturday when the rivers aren't flooded and muddy.
