Good luck and have fun, John.   I hope you meant 19 and not minus 19 degrees.  Brrrrr!!   :nono:

19 degrees is plenty cold enough!

I wonder if he is going to shoot the little ground squirrels - the ones that are about the size of a chipmunk.

I read this and even responded to it, totally forgot about it, and tonight (four days later) I had a streak of panic flush through me thinking something happen to John.

It's not like him to not show up for 4 days.

Thinking the worst I go on a search for his last post and find this thread again.  :doh2: :whew:

Do they make medicine for people like me?

What a great five days.  Nights were kinda chilly for this desert dweller, low teens but the days were in the mid 30's to low 40's.  I sat in camp for the most part as I promised my wife I would not be out walking around the forest and the rest of the crew made sure I kept my promise.  We had a total of four hunters, not counting myself.  Came home with about 30 squirrels and probably ate another dozen while in camp.  I gave my buddy one of Dave's squirrel callers and now he said he will not go squirrel hunting without it.  He limited out everyday, we have a five a day limited.

I sat around camp most days playing with another one of Dave's calls.  Although I didn't limit out any of the days I did manage to have a few come into camp to see who was making all that noise.

We also had a first time hunter in camp.  He is an escapee from what was once east Germany and we had many late night discussions.  He is scared to death of what is happening in this country.

Panned fried squirrel, Texas toast, ice cold beer - doesn't get to much better.

As an added treat we saw some mulie does and a couple herds of elk.  I couldn't get the elk in focus so no pictures.  Also had two coyotes come into camp one morning, by the time I got out of my chair and reached for the camera they were gone.

I got to stay in my friends "Five Star" camp trailer, sure beats the hell out of a tent on them cold nights.

Hey Jim thanks for missing me and al I did take it easy, no chipmunks on this trip but if them squirrels had not shown up who knows what would have died.  BBQ tomorrow night 6PM all welcome.

Very nice :congrats:
I still cant get over the looks of those gray and white squirrels :laf: They look like some kind of stuffed animal I'd buy for one of my daughters.

Looks like you had an awesome time John and we can all attest to how much it was deserved. I'm glad to hear there were no feet or leg problems, unless you were just holding out. Welcome back.

Tell your new friend his time does not go unappreciated.
