Title: Different waterfalls, same BC back road
Post by: Okanagan on December 05, 2009, 09:37:05 PM
Instead of hunting mule deer I was so tired I slept in, lazed some and since it was a rare sunny day I took my wife to see some of the closer waterfalls I found last week.  Mix of waterfalls, big lake and mountain pics from a two hour pokey drive mostly on a logging road.   First pic is getting started, still in town, camera lifted to leave out most street lights, etc.

Small falls with ice.  It is cold today instead of raining.

A falls too big to capture with a photo.  It is in three segments, a good 200 feet high.

Upper section.

Bottom section.  Now I realize I didn't take a photo of the middle falls which is at least 60 feet high and plunges into the lower gorge from the left.

The first photo, from town, was from an offramp on the TransCanada Highway in Chilliwack.  I think that is Slesse Mountain, but not sure.  The rest of the photos are all from Harrison Lake and a logging road along it, starting from downtown Harrison Hot Springs ( as downtown as a four or five block town can be).

All beautiful, but I really dig those pictures of the falls with the icicles.

Thank you for the compliments.  Somebody made some pretty good stuff in the viewfinder to work with.  We will probably have a chance to get more ice photos this winter.  I've got some old slides of BIG river waterfalls in minus 40 cold, huge ice cones built up 100 feet high to the lip of the falls with water still pouring over the rim and into the hole in the top of the cone.

Here's another photo of the same small waterfall with icicles, backed up to show more of its size.  It's 25-30 feet high I'd guess.
All of these are grab shots from the logging road, mainly taken from the middle of bridges over these side creeks.  There are many more waterfalls up in the side canyons, but it would be a tough hike to see them with no trails in steep country.

My wife likes the one below, run out from the lower section of the highest falls where it runs under the bridge.

And one more of a falls not shown before.  Last week I counted 21 waterfalls in 31 miles on this road, driving out in pitch dark.    There are more in the daylight.

The ones like that third pic in the first post are what's so spell binding to me. Mannn it's like you feel so small.
Very cool pics.
