Wow, finally something that is close to Bill's age.
Wow....That is definitely a prize Barry.
What do you mean by replica though, it's not very old, or it's not operational, or...
Jim the original whitworth rifles were made before your war down there. This gun copied Whitworths patent. Parker Hale tube with Pedersoli putting 'er together. I got it back in about '92 or earlier and they even quit making these. I've saw two of the originals[held one] but neither were for sale .
Nice rig Barrry. If that old PH tube shoots at all like the new ones you can use all those sights once you get glasses!! :yoyo:
Pretty dang cool.
Gotta admit, I've never seen an octagon barrel (on the inside) before.
Interesting...very interesting.
I've heard of the octagon barrels, never seen one though.
Are ya gonna shoot something with it?

I already have Al as I've had it for 20 years.
I was just reading the Outdoor life guns and shooting year book 1990. There is an article on rifling and the whitworth rifles are mentioned. Thought that it was neat that I was reading this today and here's one posted on the site.
Now I learnt sumpin.
I didn't know paper patched bullets were used in muzzle loaders.

IIRC, the paper patch keeps the barrel from leading up so bad.
It makes a tighter fit to impart spin on the bullet. Those are basically paper sabots. Years ago we used either new flannel or worn out blue jeans to get the right thickness of patch for accuracy with the old round ball guns. It does help with the leading as well.

If you have every watched the long range guys down at friendship you will see a bunch of diffrent things being used for patches. I have seen thin paper strips used. One buckskinner would actually lay them out in a pattern specific to the rifle he was using and the numer of shots fired sense the last cleaning so he got the best seal he could. Got it down to a science some of them fellers.
I believe that slag. Dad used to take us to the ML shoots around here & you would see some things not normally associated with hunting. Like driving the round ball home so tight this one fella used a hammer. :shock2:
