Title: Nothing better to do...
Post by: Coulter on January 09, 2010, 02:26:13 PM
My Taxidermist called me and told me my birds are ready, so as soon as the wife gets home shes driving me out to get them. Check 'em out. A pair of Oldsquaw (Long-Tailed ducks) shot last year on the mighty Niagara River where it empties into Lake Ontario.

I don't know if I should be happy or sad that I finally have my taxidermy bill paid in full. I don't have anything to look forward to now

Good looking job on some weird[to me] looking birds Steve :congrats:.  Never seen one alive so for me to say they look good might not mean much but anyway, they look real good.

Thanks guys...especially you Pat. I needed a good laugh. I am pretty much stuck in the house until the sun goes down. The bright light absolutely kills me. I'm not sure if I am going to make it to Chincoteague, VA for a sea duck that I had planned with a buddy. You want to see some weird looking birds Barry? If I make it down there I'm hoping to bag a few for the taxidermist.

Hope you get to go on the hunt Steve  :readthis:.  I'd be so busy gawking I wouldn't be able to shoot if I came along. :doh2:

Steve-- Are these birds just targets of opportunity where you normally hunt or do you travel a couple hundred miles to hit their flyway??

Vic...when are you coming up here to hunt man?

Glen...we do get a few right here on my home hunting grounds, but not many. In fact, last year before we went on this hunting trip I shot two oldsquaw the day before we left 15 minutes from my house on Lake Erie. We drove up to the Niagara River the next day where it empties into Lake Ontario (about a 2 hour ride from here) and harvested 17 oldsquaw between three guys. Of course we shot 11 boxes of shells to get them. But we didn't shoot at anything other than oldsquaw while we were there.

The Chincoteague trip is another story...that is about a ten hour drive if I go and it is actually right on the Atlantic Ocean. We were going to leave for that trip on the 17th, but due to this eye problem, I will either have to cut the trip short and leave on the 19th after work or cancel altogether. We'll see how this week goes.

That's cool you have them that close. You guys post pics of birds I've never seen before too. I just shoot crows & doves when we have them around here. I certainly wish you the best of luck with your eye & hope you can make it to the coast. That would be really cool to go do. Take care of yourself so you have the best opportunity to get there.  :yoyo: :yoyo:
