Title: It ain't just guns.
Post by: pitw on January 27, 2010, 01:20:56 PM
I just got off te phone with Shelley, one of the border guards at the Raymond crossing where I'll be coming across the line.  I had called yesterday with some questions and They had me call back today.  I can bring 2 shed antlers across the line with me and an export permit is required for all skulls[no matter how old].  Trees are forbidden[period] unless you go through a set of green house rules we won't go into here cause that was unbelievable.  Ammunition could be a pain as well and she said it was a good plan on my part to not even bother taking a gun on a hunting trip[it can be done but you better plan way ahead for this one].  My van is going to be a lot lighter than I had planned[poor planning eh] and I'm truly sorry Jimmie that I can't bring you the Diamond willows.  At$15 an export permit the skulls will be staying home too.  Stupid rules. :argh:

Barry,

I could bring an extra AR-15 for you to hunt with if you like??  Or a shotgun which ever you prefer?

Jim

Thanks Jim but I ain't never seen an AR-15 let alone shot one  and I think there is going to be enough guys there to shoot coyotes without me hurting one.  I'll be in the BSing prostaff booth and looking at trees and country side.  Appreciate the offer though .

Interesting point I might point out though is that she said I wouldn't be turned back if I brought money :iroll:.

I tried to send some kiln dried surfaced Hickory to Canada once. The only way they would let me send it was if it had a finish on it & then I would have fees that needed to be paid.  I sent it to North Carolina instead.

Then that also means you can't get back with this hickory either. With things hte way they are today with all these diseases I can understand that.

They may not even allow firewood to be brought into the LBL campground come to think of it. Emerald ash borer is wreaking havoc on trees in several states. Can not even move ash across state lines without someone examiones it or it is kiln dried under certain specs. They are getting ot be pretty stiff on these rules. Jimmie

Darn it. I was gonna post up that I'm bringing a hunk or two of air dried Osage. Better leave it here then.

Small blocks of dried osage can be brought in no trouble. It 's ash and it's insects that are the problem. I won't be trading any ash myself , nor am I cutting it for sale as firewood. I am using the ash myself because of these rules. Even hte lumber I make will be going into projects here on my place. My ash timber had to go to a ky buyer for this reason. Jimmie

HaMeR, I am willing to learn and I thank you for your time and help :bowingsmilie:.  I agree it don't come out good on the first attempt every time but like I tell my boys when they don't do good at first, "you should have seen you learning to walk and look at you now ".

You gotta learn to make scrap before you can build a nice project Barry. You have a good start up there. Now just go back & edit it. You'll get it!!  :yoyo: :yoyo:
