Yep I was thinking those exact words myself :roflmao:
My laptop did the same thing. It won't start at all, even in safe mode. Any ideas boss?
Must be an epidemic... I loaded some pics onto photobucket and had all kinds of pop up warnings from Trend Micro anti virus something invaded from there... I think it's all settled out but has me worried.
Baxter had the same thing a night or two ago. I cant recall how he said he fixed it.
I do know that Microsoft just released a half a dozen security updates for XP Professional and sometimes those cause havoc with certain systems.
There might be something going around too, that those with vulnerabilities are becoming succumb too.
Antivirus software is nothing but fancy words if it's not kept running and up to date.
I use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and it will fix that Antivirus 2010 crap that is going around. I got hit with the 2009 version last year while on Photobucket.
I also run McAfee but it did not stop the Antivirus 2009 malware.

If you find out post post it. I will let the laptop be for now. (hate to have to "format c").
Thanks Boss!
When I went to shut my pc down it said it was downloading Micrsoft updates and it will shut the computer off when done. When I came home last evening Chris said there is something wrong with the computer

Oh boy I'll jump right on that! :pout: After the computer advise you gave Pitw. :noway:
Mr. Jimbo will have to give the okay before I download that. :finger:
I run it on my computer. But you have to have it installed BEFORE you get the virus. The virus will not let you install it, or go to McAfee, or Norton or anyother program it thinks will destroy it. Pretty clever virus.
Semp is right. It won't let you get anything after it has installed itself and calls itself a windows update to boot. The dang thing is a pain in the kiester to deal with. Your better off wiping it and starting over. From what I can gather it is also changing from time ot time to eal with whatever it may come across. So get in the habit of running backup as well. Jimmie
If it's disguising itself as a Windows® update, then right there it's a dead give away to avoid it or refuse it.
Plus Windows® updates are fed right from Microsoft. Your computer talks to Microsoft without you knowing it basically. And when Microsoft notices you running a system or a program that they support and an update has been released, a little yellow shield shows up in your system tray, (lower right hand corner) letting you know updates are available.
I have never in my entire life seen this system infiltrated by any virus or malware. These come directly from Microsoft with no outside intervention.
So if theres a virus acting like a windows update, it's showing up as a pop up. And that right there should tell you...no no :nono:
Malwarebytes is a good program and just like anything else you get what you pay for. Meaning they do have a paid version and the free version is not bullet proof because of that.
With that said...my own personal opinion is that malwarebytes isnt an antivirus program.
It does not run live in the background and protect you like anti virus software should and does. It helps to remove things once your infected.
Personally I'd rather keep the bugs out at the door rather then pray like hell I can clean it up after they are in.
I didn't download any updates from any pop ups I had the yellow triangle and when I put the cursor on it,it said downloading updates, and that went on for 2 days then when I shut the computer off yesterday morning it said installing Microsoft updates 1 of 10 don't shut your computer off When the updates are finished your computer will shut off automaticly
I am running test on that computer right now when it is done I will try and post what comes up on the screen
That is exactly what mine did Bill. And when I restarted the pop ups were there in force and couldn't do squat for the crap. Jimmie
I run McAfee anti virus and internet security. The Malwarebytes program comes in handy on malware like Anitivirus 2009 that get past the McAfee or Norton programs.
You are right, Jim. Malwarebytes is used mainly to destroy the malware after it infects your computer. I run the free version. I think the paid version might be more pro-active on the front side to keep them out to begin with.
I am not happy that McAfee doesn't stop this crap up front. :argh:
I'm running the same thing you are Semp. McAfee and Malwarebytes. So far, no problems.................................
Can anyone make heads or tails out of this
(http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r300/bnccont/SS850164.jpg)
Looks like the same exact screen that's been popping up on my wifes laptop. We just shut it down and restart it.
It works a little bit then gives her fits. If I click on Firefox it'll just sit there and won't open. Can't go through Internet
Explorer either. Have to go through MSN to get on the net. The thing is slower then !@^&^&#, fight about everything
ya try and do on it. Not sure what to do with it next, maybe 40 grains at about 4000 fps.
Blame Jim :argh:. Mine came up with a blue screen at his place for the first time after being there a few minutes .
Boy that could mean any of about 100 different things.
I think I'd begin by searching those error codes at the bottom.
There have been such cases where certain systems didnt get along with Microsoft updates. I've only had it happen once in my life time, but I just uninstalled it.
The can bu uninstalled through your control panel > add remove programs
Can you retrieve a restore point and back up to a time when the computer ran OK?
I know Windows XP has a restore feature. Not sure about the other operation systems.
Yeah that can easily be done, but with it goes any Microsoft updates taken in since then.
Then you start getting the yellow shield again indicating that your computer needs updating.
It might save some time by uninstalling either the latest one or one at a time and check the computers functionality after each one.
I tried to do a restore on my wifes computer.
I tried to go back to several different dates,
it would start to do it, then say something like
it couldn't finish it.
Nope Nope and Nope
I can't even get into the control panel Can't start in safe mode and can't back date either
That thing is locked up tighter Fort Knox :rolleye:
Jim
How do I search the error code
How do you search the error codes?
Type one of those ten digit numbers into Google's search box and click your enter key.
Are either one of you running any kind of antivirus?
I have heard that viagra will give the user "blue" tinted vision. So maybe it is a HARD drive issue . . . . . . that is the extent of my knowledge on PCs.
Jerry
yeah I bought the one you recommended and have it on both laptops,
but we were startin to have problems with hers before that. On mine the
little "world" or whatever it is down in the corner that was green before,
is now gray, I restarted it and it's still gray. I'm gonna try and do another
full system scan on both of them today and see what I come up with.
-sorry Jerry, I know that ain't the problem. :nono:
I've had the same thing happen twice. You have a virus. I took mine
to the computer shop, and they cleaned it up. It's really frustrating,
because the virus won't let you do anything. Good luck.
Nelson
I do have an antivirus but I am not sure which one it is
Doesn't matter Bill. My mcafee didnt' find the newest asualt by the same program but the malwarebytes did. I ran a scan with malware right after my Mc finished today, mc showed nothing. Malware found the little buggers starting to work in windows registry. Jimmie
When I turn mine on it gives me the screen that says F2 and F8 up in the corner then "Windows" flashes for less than 1 second, then the blue sceen comes up. It won't start in safe mode or anything. Once the blue screen comes up the only thing that does anything is the power cord.
Scott, if it's gray down there it means it's turned off. You should be able to right click and and have it show you whats going wrong, or turn it on, run a scan, etc.
Bill, if you have Antivirus but you have no idea what kind, you may already be in deep poo poo.
Jimmie, my opinion on McKafee and/or Norton is that your probably actually better off not having any Antivirus then you are running either one of those. McKafee is actually bundled free with a lot of software today, including Windows®...that right there tells me it aint worth the disk space it's taking up.
McKafee is famous for missing viruses, and Norton is not far from it, plus it is a CPU hog meaning it bogs computers down something fierce.
Art, you might end up taking yours in and having it looked at if you cant at least boot up in safe mode.
I know I've said this a million times, but I'll just keep saying it and maybe one person will pick up on it each time. But running a computer in this era without Antivirus software is like marrying a hooker from the Bronx.
People think, "oh I'll just be careful and not open certain emails, and only visit certain sites. Problem is, it's not that easy. You have no control over what transpires when you connected to the web. All you can do is protect yourself.
And simply having antivirus is not good enough. I mean seriously. I put oil in my pickup once, why should I have to check it or change it anymore, it's there...I put it in? You see what I'm saying?
These freaks conjure up ways to hack into things everyday, and all day, why I dont know...but as soon as the antivirus software developers find a fix for what they are currently hacking, the hackers change their approach also.
It's a never ending process, and if your not continuously updating your software with the newly release files, your gonna get hit. It's inevitable.
Every antivirus software in the world, every single one of them, sends out updates when they come up with new fixes to the latest hacks. You HAVE to keep up with them by installing them. And most of the time the software comes with a year or so of the updates included, after that you just subscribe again and get the updates for another year.
It's actually really simple, and negligence will devastating.
Wow! I think it is starting to sink in, Jimbo. I've been running McAfee Total Protection (includes their antivirus program) thinking I was good to go. I also have the free version of Malwarebytes Anti Malware.
If McAfee antivirus is no good, what do you recommend? Is there a stand alone program I should take a look at?
He had me get Avast once.......I LOVE it!!!!!!
I can't say enough good things about TrendMicro. I've been running it for 4 years now & haven't had a problem so far. I'm sure at some point it will get hacked too but so far I've had better luck with Trend than I had with Norton. JMHO
:doh2: Plus when you buy Trend you can install it on 3 different computers for 1 price. I protect mine plus Mom & Dads from the same disc. 3 computers protected for $50 is way better then 1 protected for $50 & I think it's a better program personally.
Jim, it says it's not responding. It let me do a full system scan on it
yesterday, didn't come up with anything. Looks like everything is
good , it's just that gray brown color.
Yeah but the gray color indicates that your not being protected Scott. It's turned off. You can still scan or do what ever you want, but again the protection is switched off.
Antivirus recommendation?
Mine would be Shield Deluxe. I've been running it on four machines here at the house for several years.
It's 40 bucks a year, and if you use this link (http://www.pcsecurityshield.com/lp/shield-deluxe-25.aspx?trk=WTK&affid=119&pu=2&gclid=COmrqJWm8J8CFVJR2godejQ4Xg) you can buy it for $20.00
But it's complete and useless garbage if you dont keep it updated.
Here's another classic for you. People go to Best Buy or Walmart and buy an antivirus program for their computer, go home and install it, and call it good.
What they dont realize is that package has been setting on the shelf since last Easter and there has been an average of 47 updates sent out for it since then. The whole time it's setting on the shelf it's not getting any newer or any updates, ya know :doh2:
Same with any downloaded antivirus, you HAVE to update it when you get it, to bring it up to date and then you have to keep it updated.
Some of them you can set up to download and install updates for you whenever they become available, others just let you know there's an update available.
The "UPDATE" buttons are usually in plain view and some are even pretty colored. Clicking on them is as easy as placing your cursor over top of the button on your screen and depressing the left mouse button..... :eyebrownod:
Jim,
How would you rate Norton 360 with live update?
Pat
I think it'll do what it's suppose to. But it was created as a corporate antivirus software if I remember right, which means it'll suck the life out of your PC (personal computer) while trying to protect it.
And actually all Norton AV's do that to PC's.
I posted a link somewhere to a comparison site I found....cant recall where i put that up.
