Caleb, my young friend who just started predator hunting three weeks ago with me, called his first coyote and shot it several days ago. He's the 20 year old who was with me on the bobcat (thread titled: Does this cat make me look fat?).

He bought a closed reed call that sounds good to me. In addition, I bought him a Psycho Tweety.
His first time out on his own, with a friend who had never called predators, he made four stands and called a pair of coyotes to the 4th stand. He set up in semi open woods and called for 20 minutes with the Psycho Tweety. Then he dropped the call. He didn't have a lanyard or string on it and it rolled down the hill six feet or so.
His friend had the other call so he whispered to him to start calling with the closed reed. Six minutes later his friend saw the coyotes first, approaching at 100 yards. Caleb didn't move till the lead coyote went behind a big fir tree and then he raised his rifle while it could not see him. He was tracking it with his scope when it appeared again. It paused at 75 yards and he shot it.
He phoned me at least ten times asking how to skin it. I would walk him through the initial cuts, then he'd phone back to ask again how to do the tail and so it went all the way to the nose. :laf:
He is still pumped.
7MM Rem. Magnum in Tikka 3 Lite with Leupie 3-9 VXII, his only rifle.

That's cool. He's definitely got a streak going :congrats:
Skinning a coyote for the first time just plain ole sucks :doh2:
Thanks for sharing it with us.
What kind of shaving cream is he using? Looks like it's causing some cosmetic deformations there.
congrats to yer friend :congrats: good looking coyote
Congrats On the Coyote :yoyo: :congrats:
Congratulations on the Fur hitting the ground!
Yeah I would think the 7mm magnum should handle the job rather nicley. Unless he is worried about fur.
Congratulations Caleb!! Now get signed up on here so we I can learn from you!! :yoyo: :yoyo:
Good for the young man :yoyo:. Tell Caleb to feel proud as he deserves too. :yoyo:. Skinning by phone has gotta be easier than skinning alone :wo:.

It's so cool when a feller gets his first coyote!
:congrats: :congrats: Awesome Job guys :yoyo: :yoyo:
Thank you to y'all. This young man had a good teacher, of course!
I mentioned this site and passed on your compliments yesterday.
He and I called in a whopper bobcat yesterday afternoon which I could see but he couldn't see well enough for a shot from his position. It's a one bobcat area and my tag for there is used. I told him it would have ruined him to have called and killed his first coyote and also get a humongous bobcat within his first month of predator hunting.
I wish he'd shot it anyway because it had the biggest track of any bobcat I've seen, way bigger than the one he and I got that's pictured in the "cat make me fat" thread.
Congratulations to Caleb on his first of what will be many. I always feel good when I introduce a youngster to calling and again when he kills his first called one.
Congrats to your friend!!! :highclap:
Congrads! Good looking Coyote!
