Title: Hunting a new farm
Post by: linemansteve on March 01, 2010, 05:31:31 PM
I went out Sunday afternoon with a friend of mine to do a little hunting on a new farm he bought that backs up to the national forest. We did a couple of sets on his farm and came up empty. As we walked a old loggiing road I saw some turkeys of to our side and I told Johnny, around my place if you see turkeys there's a good chance a coyote is around dogging them. Johnny said there was a small clearing ahead. I put him where I thought would a good stand and put the caller up in a tree and moved to the side and set down. I've got in the habit of blowing my mouth call before I start with the electronic caller. I blew I short series on the call and I saw ears coming up the hill, I was looking to see if he had a shot and at 20 yards I shot her. I stood up and ask Johnny if he saw it and he said no but that it was sure quick. After that I told him he's sitting right in front of me from now on.  (http://i525.photobucket.com/albums/cc332/linemansteve/johnny.jpg) She was a 43 lb female

wked, I was using a open reed jack rabbit distress. When things slow down hunting I'm going to pick up some calls from our members on the board here. Steve

Congratulations on the coyote, Steve!!!!     Is that ecaller up for sale now?  It doesn't look like you need it.   :nono:

That bit of advice works well at the LBL too.  If you can find the turkeys the coyotes are in the neighborhood somewhere.
