Title: My first silly question
Post by: cityslicker on April 08, 2010, 06:21:20 AM
Uh, how do you make a lip squeak and what is it supposed to sound like? I have a good idea, but don't want to be out there making some noise and have the yotes laughing at me :hahaha:

If you don't want coyotes  :hahaha: you, then don't go out there. :holdon:

A lip squeak is that smooching sound you & your girl friend make.  :eyebrow:

Just suck air between your puckered lips. The higher the pitch the better.

It's suppose to be a mouse in distress sound.

Wet the back of your hand & plant your lips on it & suck.  :alscalls: :alscalls:  Yes it sounds  like something from Brokeback LBL but that is the way it's done.  :laf: :laf:

What HaMeR said is the way i do it.  But that kinda ties up your hand and if you got one coming in you than have to move your hand for the shot.  To much movement while they are coming in to the sound can spoil your stand.  What I do now is just tape a squeaker to the forearm of my rifle, I can squeeze it a time or two and I'm in position to shoot without moving.

I second that John. I got a little squeeker attached to my gun as well.

I had a little squeeker on my gun once. Then she left me.

"I had a little squeeker on my gun once. Then she left me."

Could be you were not squeezing "it" enough, or in the wrong places.

Any of the above ideas work really well . You can even use just a single finger instead of the back of the hand. And if you like wiggle it around a bit to change inflection and rythem.  Or just pucker up and suck like calling your dog.  WHat yoru doing is mimicking the sound of a field rat or mouse in distress. It's one of the best sounds you can use and I sometimes even start a stand with it , if I think they may be close. Jimmie

Warning!!!!  Doing that wiggle your fingers thing while lip squeaking with a brown mitten on with the finger section folded back and flopping around can cause a GREAT BIG OWL to jump on your hand and scare the crap out of ya!!!!!!!  :holdon:

Been there done that!     :laf: :laf:

The lip squeek is a terrific call sound, with many variations, all of them good.  I've called a black bear inside of 20 feet with nothing but a lip squeek, no other call, and called coyotes inside of 10 feet, etc.  Check your private messages for one from me.   We'll see if we can hook up by phone.  If you are anything like me,  I need to hear a sound for myself.  I can follow descriptions on variations of a sound I've heard but if I've never heard it, I need a starting point.

You need 25 posts to send/recieve PM's Okanagan. You might want to try his email if it's listed.

Thanks for the replies fellas, I had a pretty good idea what a lip squeak was, but didn't know exactly how to do it. My wife already thinks I'm going crazy blowing on my calls around the house, I can just imagine what she'll think when I start practicing my lip squeaking.
