Today was a rainy, overcast day with light winds...good fly rodding weather...I fished a small pond that I saw fish breaking on now and then...tried various flies with no success until I slapped on an old favorite, a Royal Coachman streamer...my technique was to cast the fly out...let it sink a few moments and the give it 3-4 quick strips...and then let it stop...that stop is where I got all my hits and hooked fish...I caught a good number of fish and kept a limit for the frying pan...todaywas the epitome of fly fishing to me...wet weather...hungry trout...and oddly enough for this time of the year, not a single black fly or mosquito...when I was just about done fishing I put on a big red n yellow Mickey Finn streamer and let it sink down low and stripped it in very slow...got a hard strike and felt a big fish...got it in and it was a big heavy pickerel...very good day all in all.
