I found this web page tonight while looking over Morel Masters site to see how the annual harvest went this year.
I was shocked to see how many poisonous mushrooms there were out there that look quite similar to Morels :sad3:
Some of them are pretty darn close, especially near the bottom of the page.

"If it isn't hollow, don't swallow" is an old saying about morel mushrooms.
Ok Semp. :innocentwhistle: Jim we have some false morels up here too, but once ya got it figured out, its perty easy to tell them apart.
Drag your mind up out of the gutter, Todd. :eyebrownod:
Actually, that really is an old saying. True morels have a hollow stem. False morels don't. :wink:
I know, I'm just showing great restraint. :biggrin: And you Sir are only 9 way from the big 4 banger and a new color. ;yes;
I didnt even notice whether or not the ones on that page had any hollow stems or not :confused: Or is there just like no such thing...yet...that anyone knows of.
These pictures here - http://thegreatmorel.com/mush/false11.html
show and explain it the best I think.
The false ones, there "cap" attaches to the stem up inside, vs. on the Morels the "cap" attaches to the stem on the bottom.
The other ones in the pictures I don't think look close enough to get them confused with morels.

I don't think the color changes at 4000. :nono:
I need to post a lot more of these: :yoyo: :yoyo: :yoyo: :highclap: :highclap: :highclap: to really get my post count up. :innocentwhistle:
