Well went back to the stand Wednesday evening and last night. Did not have anything come in Wed. but a bit of a suprise when a young grizzly came in last night he is rubbed pretty good. This picture was from the other night, can't take pictures with a camera since I am just twenty feet from the bait and the shutter click would scare them off. Still waiting on a nice size black bear to come in.
Hunt hard, Die tired

That's cool!! Hope you get some trigger time from that stand!! :eyebrow:
What do you have in your hands while waiting on the bears to come and eat you? BIG rifle, bow, spear?
Jerry
In two weeks if I still have the stand going, Johnny Semp will be sitting next to me, I think I can run faster then him, heh heh. Maybe we will stick to fishing on the Sunday you are here Semp, as they said in the movie "Don't get off the boat, never get off the F'in boat"
John
:corn:
Changing your bait in another two weeks are ya? Nice picture of the grizzly, how old do you think he is?
;yes;:corn:
Pretty cool with the griz there John !
Hope ya get a good one to come in for ya !
So you are planning to use Semp as bait. :rolleye:
Jerry
Jerry, John, shhhhh Semp might hear you. When he isn't looking I'm going to pin a couple pieces of bacon to him.

:alscalls: :alscalls: OK. You guys heard it. If I don't come back from Alaska you know who to have a little talk with. :alscalls:
If I have a choice between fishing or bear hunting, I'll take bear hunting every time. Adrenaline is my drug of choice. :eyebrownod:
I have a feeling Semp, you are going to experience the trip of a lifetime! Good luck! And have a great time!
Dave
Are the Gizzlies in season too or just the Black Bears?
John,
We had an expo at the Fish and Game yesterday and a guy was talking about black bear hunting. They mix a mixture that smells like anise and spray it to cover their scent and also attract bears. There were two guys that go it sprayed on the back of their pants and the bears climbed right up the tree to say hello. The one guy shot his between the eyes when the head cleared the stand that he was on and the other started yelling and hitting it with his bow to get it off the tree. You might want to give this a try. Just don't let Semp know that you sprayed him.
Jerry
Just black bears Hammer, illegal to hunt grizzlies over bait. That is what makes them a nuisance this time of year, they will come in eat everything and then tear the place apart. This one is small, probably run off by his mom this spring, he has not been much of a problem yet.
Semp, fishing in the morning, bear stand in the evening is the plan. Also you will handle all the fish on the boat as is customary here in Alaska. I have a feeling we can replace that Adrenaline monkey on your back with something else.
John
Ok. Thanks for the info.
Thats cool stuff John, and ya know what they say about the speedier hunting partners up here. "Just shoot them in the foot and run" :innocentwhistle:

:yahoo: :thumb2: I like that plan!! As far as handling all of the fish.... :wo: ... I got a feeling there's a wee bit more to it than what I think. :eyebrownod:
Semp,
Think about it. The person handling the fish ends up smelling like the fish. Bears eat fish. Bears like to eat anything that smells like fish. YOU are the BAIT for the bears.
Jerry
:doh2: I shoulda thunk of that. :alscalls:
The only time I ever went bear hunting was in Canada. I remember carrying a bunch of honey, bacon grease, and rotten meat a couple of miles back in the woods to the stand. It dawned on me finally that maybe that was not such a smart thing to be doing. :nono:
Dont forget your Butt out tool and hat.... :laf: :laf:
