I'm still fumbling my way through this gadget, but so far I'm pretty impressed. :eyebrownod: I feel like a kid with a new toy.
Wait sec  ...I am a kid with a new toy. :sneer:
It's got a 180 page user guide so I'm thinking it'll take me double that (360 days) to get it all figured out.
This one is my favorite. Tell it I want the Copenhagen can left original. Everything else around black and white.

This is a piece cut out of the earring picture I took tonight, where the penny was used as a size reference. I thought it was cool how you could see the texture on the printer paper, and the dirt on the penny.
Oh and of course A baby pike I caught tonight.
Then I decided to set the camera down in the middle of the lawn and see if it'd focus on the grass right in front of the lens.
Don't ask why on this next one. I dont know why...a kid with a new toy, what can I say?

Ok......I gotta try and read some more.
Sweet. Now all you gotta do is use it eh :readthis:.
Cool Pics Jim
I see the grass is getting a little high there,I been wondering about the lil' John Deer :laf:
OK, I give. What kind of camera is it?
I LIKE that first pic of the cancer can and the desk. ;yes;
Barry you'll probably get sick of me taking pics of everything the next few months while I get comfortable with this thing :laf:
Bill, you actually have no idea. :nono: That 5th pic was taken right from my living room window. The city has sent crews over to cut the lawn since it's got neglected for so long. These guys had to take GPS readings before they entered the property. I havent seen them since they started. Once in a while I hear a guy yelling out there but I can't see through the brush any better then he can :laf:
Seriously, I havent taken the time to open the Deere up yet. She still mows after a battery charge, so it's not a super high priority.
Semp, the camera isnt anything special. It's one of Cannons latest creations.
The Cannon SD1400
14.1 megapixels
It'll do HD video in 720p in up to 30fps
Even has a built-in HDMI digital out port for playing the vids back from the camera to the TV.
Lots of still image features. I'm still making my way through all that.
The most impressive thing to me so far is the ability to zoom into very distant objects and it'll focus itself virtually perfect.
Cost?..Barely over $200 bucks.
I see they are going up now. Tiger Direct jumped $20 bucks on this model.
That's it?
Looks like it'll fit in a shirt pocket.
What do you call a distant object. I've been wanting to get a camera where I can get a pix at 300yds & make it look like it's 10yds away.

That thing is WAY to big to fit in any shirt pocket. It is over 1/2 of an inch thick and the weight of almost 5 oz. will throw a back out in a heart beat. Nice camera Jim.
Jerry
:whew: Thanks for the warning Jerry.
man I like that, cool new toy Jim
OK. The 1st pic is way too cool. What really impresses me the most tho is if you didn't have a tripod the clarity on those closeups are amazing!! There is no blur at all in them. You didn't use a tripod did ya??
Interesting assortment of "necessities" on your desk there, Jim. How often do you use the three "odd" supplies?
No I haven't put it on a tripod yet. The one of the penny though, I had the camera setting on the table by itself.
And then with the lens out I just tipped it forward until the lens acted like a kick stand and set the timer. So that why that one came out so clear.
The Mister Twister tail I was leaning forward while on my knees cause the seeds and worm was on the garage floor.
It's got a little hand that shows up on the screen with squiggles on each side of it telling you that your not holding the camera still.
Whats the "odd" supplies? :alscalls:
The duct tape. Thats there because I was bitchin at the kid that it disappeared. So he laid it there knowing I wouldnt miss it.
The sandwhich bag had one magazine of ammunition it in. Rick223's working on my bolt and I was going to run over some ammo so he had some to cycle through it. I took them out one night to use them as a background for your machine gun chrome pics, and then didnt like the pic.
Thats all I see for oddities. :laf:
I was referring to the calls and duct tape. :alscalls:
Wise guy uh? :laf:
HaMeR...do we got a pink wig that'll fit this guy?
And the pencil/pen holder? :rolleye:
Thats not an odditie Al. They are found on many desks throughout North and South America, and many other countries today.
It's a small opened end container to store pens and pencils in while no writing is taking place.
Looks dang good ! That first pic is pretty cool ! :eyebrownod:
Did you catch that reference to a "cancer can". :innocentwhistle:
The name says it all :eyebrownod:, so it's gotta be a good one. Awesome pics Jimbo.
Semp, I was trying to show some of the camera's abilities.
Not get your prognosis on WHATS IN the pictures.
Geeez are you a friggin doctor?
 :laf:

I'm just waiting for the Lawyers to show up next. :laugh2:

There seems to be some sort of container possibly meant to hold things from your desk........with one pen in it......... then a plastic cup.........Full of pens and pencils....... You sure you aint related to Red Green? :alscalls: :alscalls:
That camera is Way cool!
Well here we are 18 months later and my new camera is on it's way to the hospital.
Please send your prayers.
The inside of the lens (I think thats what it's called) has accumulated some kind of debris. Dust? But it's so bad now that it shows in 99% of the photos.
Here's a zoomed picture of my ceiling. Which is pure white and spot free by the way. :sneer:
Here's an unzoomed pic you can see the blotches on
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v54/RiverBoy/misc/10-162011001.jpg)
I sent Canon an email regarding it and never got a response. I decided to send them another one and still never got a response.
Like Jerry suggested, a phone call was in order.
Once I got a hold of them they asked me to send them the camera with a letter explaining the problem and they would contact me after they received it and looked it over, with a price quote. :innocentwhistle:
I'm sure the debris is dust from carrying the camera in my pocket everywhere. But what the hay. They make it small enough to put in your pocket like that but your not suppose to put it in your pocket? ...or am I suppose to shrink wrap it each time I do?
I should have asked that in my letter :laf:
I'm pissed but curious to see how this turns out.
After 18 months I would think you are pretty much on your own. But then again, if you don't ask you won't receive.

Think they will contact you like they did the first two times??
Doesn't really matter what they do to it, a Canon will never be able to beat the quality of Bobeyes camera phone. :innocentwhistle:
Well, if they dont contact me it'll all be on record this time. With signed delivery confirmation, and insured for $250
Maybe I'll have to take a trip to Newsport News VA, and do some Hob Knockin :innocentwhistle: and then take a picture of THAT!. There might be some blotches in the pic but you all will know what took place :laf:
I had the same thing happen to mine Jim,
not quite as bad though.
Seriously? Was it the same camera as mine?
Jim,
After spending thousands (literally) on digital cameras since they came along (previous last two were around 1K each with all their goodies), I said the hang with fancy digital cameras with manuals like the NYC phone book, and still only took so-so pictures compared to my trusty old SLR film camera bought in the mid 80's (about $4000) or my two SLR's with all their lenes bought in the early 70's (about $2000). My cheapie first digital in the 90's did better, and for less than $100. So I went back to basics, and my latest one bought about 18-20 months ago, set me back $120 shipped. I took one brief look at the manual and saw it would do anything except wash windows, filed it, put the camera on point and shoot and called it good to go. It is small and very light, so club fingers make it a little harder use, as does my handicaps if I have to hold it low and use a thumb for the shutter release. The screen while large is stationary, and that makes it harder to "compose" pictures too, but still livable. But it does pretty good from marco to infinity for a cheap 10MP calling all the shots. Way better than its big brother Canon S3 IS I had before it with all the extra bells and whistles bought for it, or the Oly 700 Zoomer. Gave the S3 IS POS to my son, still have the Oly. Have taken a ton of pictures with it in all lighting conditions, with/without flash, with and without macro and it hasn't missed the boat once yet. No bigger than a pack of cigs in a shirt pocket so easy to always have along (unlike that SLR S3 IS I had to carry in a fairly big belt holster).

Some took a couple of days ago in awkward low positions by someone who the ground is no longer a part of his world unless he falls on it. Yea they would be better if I programed the shots, but these are good enough for an old geezer on the final lap.

Thats a powershot also. Mines pretty much the same line, just a different model.
I agree they are pretty amazing lil cameras :eyebrownod:

Nope, mines a Panasonic Lumix.
Remember those soft bags with a pull string that Crown Royal use to come in ? I have one very similiar to that except smaller that I put my canon in while in my shirt pocket or pants pocket. Dust free while your carrying it. I miss taking alot of video but dayum the editing.
Jeb
Yea, I got a couple of those that were shipped with safety glasses but they are made of a nylon which would probably be even more lint free.
I'd take a picture of one but... :doh2:  :iroll: :sad2:
Anyway, I guess I might have to do something like that. It was always so nice though to whip it out and take a pic.
Having to drop my pants, untuck my shirt, stick my left foot in and shake it all about, do the hockey pockey and turn my self around.....is gonna really suck.
Well I got a reply today.
MY initial reaction was, I wanted to pick up the phone call them and ask if they would be so kind as to take that camera and shove it up there #$$'s after reading what they sent me back.
Unless I'm reading it wrong, they dont repair this model and they will send a new or refurbished one for an additional $140.00
YAH! I'm sure they would :rolleye: :argh:
Click the image to enlarge, and then click it again to open it larger.
Ask them what model they'll replace it with. Might be worth it.
I thought of that, but I can just see them saying they dont know yet but it will be of equal or greater value. :iroll:
I figure if they know what they want to swap it with, they would have mentioned it.
I'll ask anyway, but thats what I'm predicting.
See what kind of deal they'll make you on an S95 or their new S1000.
I have the S95 and it serves very well for a P&S. Took most of my pictures with it in Africa as it was compact and convenient to carry in shirt pocket.
The more I dwell on this the madder I get. :argh:
Something just dont seem right. They are going to charge me an "Out of Warranty Standard Labor Charge" of $121 as if they were servicing my out of warranty camera. And then replace it.
Why am I being charged an "Out of Warranty Standard Labor Charge", there's absolutely no out of warranty labor taking place.
So everyone who sends anything in out of warranty, automatically gets charged the $121.00 THEN... start discussing what it cost to fix the camera. :wo:
Am I missing something here or am I just being anal?
Bend over baby here it comes! :laf:
BOHICA !! :alscalls: :alscalls:
:puke:
Just got off the phone with Iris in Chesapeake, VA.
She said the reason they are charging me that is because I could not provide a sales receipt or proof of purchase.
She said if I could provide either of those the charges would be dropped.
I said Iris...do your teeth come out? :innocentwhistle:
You can't find someone in town to write out a receipt for the camera? Come on Jim, if you look really hard you can find that receipt.
Jerry
I guess anyone could write one.
But that's not going to take the place of a cash register receipt. I think they know I didnt buy the camera new at a yard sale. :laf:
I did look the purchase up on PayPal since I bought it through my PayPal Mastercard. Found it johnny on the spot. Purchase made at 12:40pm CST for $262.70 on May23rd 2010 at Walmart Super Center. But it doesnt say what was purchased.
I emailed PayPal, to see if they could help, low and behold they actually replied within 15 minutes, first asking for more info, and then again by saying sorry we cant provide or replace a receipt. :doh2:
I wonder if Wally World could do it, if I provided all the details times and dates?
OMFG! I found It! :yahoo: :yahoo: :hellyeah: :jump:
I've got a bad habit of saving all the boxes that my expensive toys come in. I've got boxes that my fishing reels come in, boxes from old computer parts, even got the box from my Motorola razor which is two or three years old.
I had to Google images to remember what the PowerShot box looked like. Once I did, I thought, hey I just seen that the other day. Went to the laundry room shelf and there it was.
The girls got to listen to me whine all they way back from Madison tonight so when I walked into the room with the box, I said, "look what I found and what are the odds of the receipt being inside this box". Slim to none I thought as I said it cause I NEVER do that.
Wala! there it was, taped to the inside of the lid. I do not remember doing that but boy am I glad I did.
MANNNN my day just got a WHOLE lot better. :bowingsmilie:
Thats funny in that I usually always keep the box and always put the receipt in the box to boot. :laf:
I think having the box helps if I ever get tired of the new toy and decide to throw it on Epray. :hellyeah:
Jim,
That wasn't so hard now was it. You have the receipt, the box, and are set to get a new camera. :yahoo:
Jerry
Now that they have the receipt, I got another reply. It must still be under warranty. Which is a good thing.
But I was kinda hoping to meet Iris
Click image to enlarge. Click again to enlarge more.
Looks like you got an early Christmas present from Canon. :congrats:
Jerry
Now thats what I like to see, a happy ending...lol
There was a brand new camera setting between the doors in a FedEx package tonight when I got home. or....I should say "factory refurbished'.
What I do think is funny, is the fact that they said mine was not a serviceable model, but yet... they may and DID replace it with a refurbished one. LOL
Anyway...I got what appears to be a brand new camera, and honestly I couldn't be happier.
QuoteAnyway...I got what appears to be a brand new camera, and honestly I couldn't be happier.
:highclap: :thumb2: Cool.... Now with that new camera in hand I suspect we will be seeing even more pictures of snow :sad3: up
to over the windows...
or the cat  :laf:
Probably both Chet....and a whole lot of stupid stuff in between. :eyebrow:  :eyebrownod:
Yeah well you know what they say dontcha?? If there's no pics then it didn't happen!! :innocentwhistle:
I wanna see you take a pic of the NEW camera IN the box BETWEEN the doors with your NEW camera Jim!! :alscalls: :alscalls:
Yeah, that one would be, I say that one would be a lil tough.
You'll have to settle for crystal clear pics, no blotches, and extreme close ups again :eyebrownod:
:laf: Okee dokee!! I look forward to more sunset pics. I've seen some real beauties in the Winter!!
Jim,
Don't you hate it when you get a new toy and have to play with it all over again? Well, maybe it isn't there yet, but I am sure you are eagerly awaiting the arrival.
Jerry
Got it last night, and since they clearly stated not to send in any accessories, like the lanyard, the SDcard, the battery, etc. I now have two of everything  :eyebrow:
Two batteries will be the handiest.
2 batteries IS the handiest!!!!!!!!! Diane carries them both everywhere we go.
Geeeee whizzz… :bowingsmilie: some one must have left an impression on Iris. :innocentwhistle:
I bought a couple of Bushnell factory refirb rifle scopes, they work smoother than some of the other Bushnell's I own. Think about a product that is factory refurbished. Usually this means a specially trained technician, not a assembly line robot, has worked on your camera. The camera has been taken apart by hand, inspected and repaired to their quality control specifications. The repair center technician is held responsible for their work. That said, you should have new camera that is better than "new".
Now go forth and give that Canon a work out.
