Nice looking calls.  What is the wood on the ends of the deer grunt?  Looks like a nice piece of Bocote in the middle and I am somewhat unsure about the ends.  Looks a little like Cocobolo, but not exactly.  Nice tight grain whatever it is.

Not trying to hijack your thread here or anything but whats the weight do? These things basically act like an open reed so whats the weight do that a stiffer reed wont?

I'm not trying to insult you..as mentioned I'm very curious. I've never seen anything like it.

Not a problem.  I was just wondering.

Jerry

I found this:
Adjustable tone board with O-ring. Produces full range of buck deer vocals including low social grunts to powerful challenge grunts.

Note to call builders: the size on these reeds is LARGER then prey distress type JC product reeds which are inserted into closed reed call bodys.

Overall length - approx 2.575
Diameter (at point inserted into call body) - approx .318
Length inserted into call body - approx .575
Width (at tone board) - approx .485
