Decided to broaden my horizons and try something new. These are the first two deer grunters I have ever made, my son laid claim to #1, which is a persimmon barrel and a bloodwood insert

This is #2, a redwood bur barrel and a figured maple insert

Both are nice looking calls
I really like #1 style the most

Barry, If you have never seen a Persimmon or ate one I will have another little project to introduce you to another first in your life. I will take pictures of some Persimmon Trees for you, The Persimmons when ripe are taste but when green will make you :puke: BUT wildlife love them, Deer, Fox,Coyote, during hunting season around a Persimmon tree is the place to be. I killed two Fox last year one evening under a persimmon Tree and Missed another one. cc
I have turned some persimmon before it has been awhile ago and if I look I might have a piece in the shop
And it makes a great sounding call
They used to use Persimmon to make the heads of golf club drivers. -They still do I'd imagine. A very dense wood, with a good impact resistance.
