I was supposed to check out a new farm to hunt today. But the farmer decided he would rather I go over sometime this next weekend. After I sat around 1/2 the day waiting on him, I decided to hit the woods.
It wasn't too hot in the shade so I just grabbed my shotgun, my hand calls and my stool. I rode my ATV to a farm just down the road where we killed one in a field a couple weeks ago. This time I went to the other side of his farm across the road and hunted inside the woods this afternoon. The shade would be cooler than the open fields.
On my 1st stand, I was doing some fawn distress on my Lil-Dog. I was only there about 5 minutes when a coyote ran in behind me. I was busted and he left in a hurry.
The second stand, I stayed about 45 minutes with nothing coming in.
My third stand was on top of a ridge with open hardwoods on top, and just over the hill was a big thicket in the bottom. I started some rabbit distress on my Pee Wee Critter Call. Within 3 -4 minutes I saw this male sneaking up through the brush trying to circle downwind. He was 35 yards broadside and I put 2 loads of 12 gauge "BB"s in him. He ran about 20 yards and crashed in a briar thicket.
He looked like another one of last years pups. 29 pounds.
