It's not a question of one or the other.  The doc said because of the operations I need to stay out of the extreme cold weather.  My elk hunt is in Nov at about 12,000 feet and it will be cold.  If'n I don't fare to well I probably will not make it to the LBL.  However if I do ok or even fairly ok I'll be there.

John p, our temps are not that bad most of the time. Coldest temp we have had during the hunt was a low of 19 one year with wind chills. Most days are moderate with temps in the upper 30's or low 40's. One year we even hunted in shirt sleeves. High's were in the fifties that weekend, great hunt  :eyebrownod:

Our humidity is what gives most folks trouble. Dang canuck thought he had died and went south  :rolleye: Jimmie

Well if you guys were driving again, and there was a chance you'd go by here, I'm strongly considering hopping in and with ya's.

My only real dilemma would be trying to get too many days off work.
Kyles at his mothers for the summer. It's looking like he's going to drop out of school and stay up there :rolleye: So that wouldn't be a factor. (were going to try to get him enrolled in the job corps)

If I can talk my buddy into it I would like to go. I killed my first 2 deer down there on youth hunts and haven't been back since 1990. How does it work as far as how does everyone decide what area to hunt? Like I said I haven't been down there in 20 years and I was 14 at the time so I don't know my way around there. Where does everyone stay?

You can hunt wherever as long as you have a license for that state and a LBL permit. Here's some things that will help. http://forum.finsandfur.net/index.php?topic=4563.0

This will be my first LBL Coyote Hunt.  Got a few questions.

1)  Plan on arriving Thursday Night, I have no knowledge of the hunting area.  Will someone point me in the right direction, or is it best to tag along with someone who knows the area.  Possibly could arrive there with some daylight Thursday, to scout some places?? Would that be a waste of time?  I am flying blind.

2)  Shotgun or Rifle?  Any regulations on either, that might differ from normal state regulations.  (Ar-15 30 round, pistol grip shotgun)

3)   If by chance it rains, do you guys still hunt?

4)   Anybody know how much a electric site is at wranglers?

5)   What day do most people show up?

1)  I suggest you get some maps (there is a link on this site to LBL maps)  and pick out some likely spots.  Most of us never scouted LBL the first time either.

2) Either shotgun or rifle works in February.  T shot or smaller for shotgun.  Center fire rifle of any type or .22 mag if you prefer.

3) Some might hunt in the rain.  I do not.   :nono:

4) Go to LBL website.  It has prices for Wrangler's camp sites and cabins.

5) Most people are there by Friday.  Some come several days earlier though.

The magazine limit is only for deer hunting. There is no mag limit for coyotes. But while you are traveling in a vehical, all firearms AND MAGAZINES must be unloaded and inside a case.
Varmint, if you get there Thursday night, stop by the 1st 2 cabins in the campground. They can help you out with what to do and where to go. After dark that's where we hang out. You'll find somebody to hunt with there.

I have read that all guns have to be in cases and magazines unloaded.

My question, I normally carry a handgun and have my CDW permit.

Can I carry legally in LBL, using CDW permit??

Here is what LBL has been telling people:

"Concealed firearms carry permit does not apply to LBL NRA at this time, although the LE officers at LBL will honor the concealed carry permit if there are no other aggravating circumstances. Examples of aggravating circumstances are, but not limited to, violation of the concealed carry permit itself, shooting from a roadway, or shooting outside of the LBL firearms range”.

So basically, if you keep the gun concealed and out of sight, you should be OK.   There are no guarantees though.
