I'm leaving in the morning for Nashville, then to Atlanta. At Atlanta I'm picking up a truck and tanker trailer then heading to L.A. I'm dropping the trailer off at a shop in L.A. and picking up a trailer that has been re-fitted with a new pump and motor to bring back to Atlanta. Then after a few days off will probably have to go back to L.A. and pick up the 1st trailer I dropped off, depending on how long it takes them to re-do that one.
So, after tomorrow morning I'll be off the net for a few days. Se y'all later.
Be safe Ed a country boy in the big city
Just remember the women on the street corner aren't your friend :nofgr: :alscalls:
See ya when ya get back
Watch your back in L.A. and what did that one post say.....if you drop your wallet, you better kick it clear to Tulsa before you bend over to pick up. :alscalls:
Be safe my friend.
I have to ask. What can they do to a tank in LA that couldn't be done on this side of the US? It will be a nice trip for you and hopefully your drop off point is on the eastern side of the city.
Jerry
Stay save my friend and take yer camera! :yoyo: :yoyo:
Jerry,
Yes, it's on the east side. Just inside the beltway at Bloomington,Ca.
We use these tankers to fuel locomotives at the railyards. Right now, they run off of a PTO drive on the truck. The PTO runs a hydraulic system on the trailer which in turn runs the fuel pump. We have several different makes of trucks and trailers and they are basicly set up where each truck was fitted to the trailer it pulls. If that truck breaks down, it's not likely that another truck is set up exactly the same so it puts the trailer out of service too.
Out in L.A. they mount a pony motor on the trailer that runs directly off of the diesel fuel inside the trailer. The pony motor runs the hydraulics on the trailer to pump fuel to the locomotives. That way, any truck can pull the trailer because it's a self contained unit. If our truck breaks down we can just get another truck and not loose service from the trailer.
There are probably closer places to get the job done. I'm guessing they're getting a good enough price that the involved transportation is still cheaper.
Have fun on your trip Ed, and be safe.
Pat
Thanks for the info. The change sounds like the right way to go and not have recurring problems each time. Have a safe trip.
Jerry
Take a horn off the locomotive with you . Have as good a time as your conscious will allow :innocentwhistle:.
Safe travels to ya Ed !
Have a good one.
Have a good trip Ed!! Be safe & if you're bored & tired you have my cell #!! :yoyo: :yoyo:
Have a safe trip Ed, Hurry back there are still several coyotes here in Ky. :yoyo: :yoyo:
:holdon: DON'T DRINK THE WATER!!!! :nofgr:
I sure hope he doesn't come back gay or a liberal or both. :sad3:
Have a good trip, Ed. Be careful, there are some funny actin' people out there. :eyebrownod:
Well, finally got to Abiline tonight anyway. They didn't have our trailers ready to go in Atlanta like they were supposed to. So we didn't get out of there till around 6PM Sunday. So we're a day behind now. But it dosen't matter. They said the trailer I'm going to P/U in L.A. won't be ready till Friday. :iroll: So I've got some time to kill. Oh well, I'm on the clock anyway. :eyebrow:
A freind of mine is in another truck pulling the 2nd trailer out here with me. He moved here from Hawaii and has never drove a truck long haul over the road. So I gotta nurse him along. But he's doing OK.
I had to pay $2 just to get 59 minutes of WIFI here. Y'all are worth it though.
I'll keep in touch when I can. See y'all later.
Oh, VV, ain't no danger of me becoming either one of those. :nono: :nono:
Oh man Ed this was just the story I needed. :bowingsmilie: The wife is still looking at me as if I lost my mind as I laughed my derriere off. Sounds like you got things under control for now and I'll see if we can get these guys to throw in a few coins to help pay for the future installments :eyebrow:. Keep 'er right side up and don't pug nose it as you roll towards your destination[best word I could get away with on the forum].
Made it to Wilcox,Az today. Have to stop here for the night. We're only allowed to drive 11 hours, then by law we have to take a 10 hour break. Really makes a trip drag out. I had hoped to meet JohnP today but my delay at the start in Atlanta threw a wrench in that. Hopefully it'll work out that I get to see him on my trip back east.
I've been looking for coyotes all the way out here and ain't seen the 1st one yet. And there's not been more than a 1/2 dozen roadkills. I did see 3 antelope just before I stopped here.
Oh well, I'll see what suprizes tomorrow brings.
The Hawaii fellow still got the friendly girl with him :alscalls:. Good job on keeping me in the loop Ed and I still want some pics .

Maybe she's a Lot Lizzard. :eyebrownod:
Ed, those coyotes know that the Weedwalker is in their midst. I bet a satellite photo would show a "mass coyote migration" taking place, as coyote mysteriously move away north and south, from the highway? LOL! You be safe out there! Hurry back home.

Dave that ain't funny at all. If they are heading north and/or south they will be missing our place, they need to head southwest a bit.
Spoke to Ed twice and hope to meet up with him on his return trip.

YO EDDIE,
DROP IT IN THE BIG HOLE WHEN YOU CAN, AND SLEEP WHEN YOUR TIERED !!!
Be safe out on the road buddyboy , you guy are what make the world go round :bowingsmilie:
Finally made it into Kalifornia. Had to wait 1 1/2 days for the trailers we were picking up to get finished up in the shop. Wasn't able to get any WIFI where we were at. Got out of there about 5AM today.
Made a stop in Arizona on the way out. I got to meet the man we all know as JohnP. He's a hell of a nice guy. :yoyo: We had a bite to eat at Reb's Diner. They have a fantastic BBQ sandwich. (No Jim, not sloppy joe. Real pulled pork BBQ. :eyebrownod:) After lunch we took a ride in John's P/U to look at some of his hunting spots. I hope I didn't droll too bad on his windows. :iroll: It looked like an awesome place to hunt. Any direction you looked you would see a good spot to make a stand. I told him he would probably feel a little claustrophobic if he had to hunt the thick crap that I hunt. :laf: I got to spend a couple hours with him and enjoyed every minute of it. :yoyo: I'm hoping it'll work out that John could make it to the LBL. I know you all would enjoy his company as much as I did.
Thanks again John. I hope to see you again.
I've made it back as far as Lordsburg,NM tonight. I'm not in any hurry to get back and am seeing the sights along the way.
Glad you got to hook up with John. Be safe on the trip back, Ed.
Just got done talking with Weedwalker Ed. He really had a good time with JohnP. Must've been quite the place to hunt as I think I detected a little envy in his voice. :eyebrownod:
You must be one heck of a guy in person to John as you made quite the impression on Mr. Ed.
Be carefull Weed. Heading out to a BBQ/Fish Fry. :highclap:
Big Ed, glad you got linked up with John P. Still fighting the kidney stone problem. Check in when you get back.
Sounds like you had a great time Ed. I'm alittle envious you getting to meet Mr. John P. But heck, John got to meet you. :congrats: I bet the coyotes are breathing a mite easier in Arizona now that you're out of the state. Bad enough they gotta contend with John. Have a safe trip home.

That coyote magnet Ed has probably got some stuck to the side of his truck and don't know it. :laf:

If I did, they probably came off in the blast. :shock2: I got to Midland,Tx and one of my trailer tires blew into a million pieces all over the road. Cheap recap tires and desert heat just don't go together. :nono:
My day started out good though. I made a stop in El Paso,Tx for a while. My son is stationed there at Ft. Bliss in the Army. That's the 1st time I've got to see him since Christmas. Had breakfast with him and got to spend a couple hours before he had to get back to base. I hated to part company with him. Nobody there saw it, but I got a little wet in the eyes when he left. He's my 3rd son that has been in the service. He's thinking about a career in it, for now anyways. He's grown up into a very respectable young man and I'm very proud of him. They sure grow up fast.
Other than that, just an ordinary day of holiday traffic till my tire gave out. After waiting 2 hours to get it fixed, I said heck with driving. I'll save some for tomorrow and stay here at Midland tonight.
Dang Ed, that's a bummer about the tire, but it is great that you got to see your son like that. That makes the whole trip much better. :congrats: :congrats:
To see your boy had to bring you joy. :yoyo: The tire problem can be fixed so no harm in spending more time. How's the pineapple dude doing? He been to a vet yet :laf: :laf:.
Sounds like a great trip.
Thanks for the write up - enjoyed it all, especially glad you got to have a meal with your son.
Ed, sorry about the tire inconvenience. But you made the best of the day visiting with your son! I'm not sure about the cheap recaps, and desert temperatures blowing out that tire??? Semp had mentioned about the "Coyote Magnet" and coyotes being stuck to the truck? I just figured you run one over, and a tooth punctured the tire? :wo: Hope your remaining portion of the trip is a safe one.
As some of you guys already know and have hunted with Ed the pleasure in meeting him was all mine. I thought it only appropriate that I take him to a place called "Reb's" for lunch. Showed him a little of the country side then we drove through one of the leases I had when we were running cattle. I would have liked to got out and called a stand or two but still can't put on a pair of boots and I didn't know what his time restrictions were. Maybe next time he comes through here he can arrainge it for an overnight stop and we can get out and do some calling.
Bop - He made me promise that if I make it to the LBL I wouldn't tell you what he told me about ya. :rolleye:
Ah shoot John, he probably ain't said something that hasn't been said before. It was either loud mouth, jerk, short fat guy, or something along those lines. It's all true so I hope ya don't hold it against me. :eyebrownod:
When Ed was here for a visit I took him to a small restaurant up the road from here. As we're sitting there eating, I look up and there's a picture of Obama with a couple of the waitresses on the wall. I quickly apologized to Ed, then made him promise that he wouldn't tell Bopeye. I've never went back there again. :rolleye:

I told ya Dave, next time I'm up there we can go there and order some wings. But tell them we only want the right wings. :laf:
Well, this has been a good trip for me. Almost a vacation. I got to meet our good freind JohnP and stop to see my son. Well worth the trip for either of them. :yoyo:
Tonight I'm stopped at Tallulah,La. near the La-Ms line. I've milked this run about all I can so I'll be in Atlanta tomorrow afternoon to drop this trailer and home tomorrow night. Then I'm off untill Saturday. I might even get in a stand or two while I'm home this week.
I hope I haven't bored you all to death with my trip. I enjoy staying in touch with you all as much as I can while I'm traveling.
I took a few pictures on the way. When I get home I'll put them on here. I'm limited on my time now.
P.S. Barry, Pineapple is getting wise to all these freindly girls out here. :eyebrownod: They ain't so friendly if you don't give 'em no money. :laf: He's hoping to make another trip out there with me at the end of the month.
Glad to read that you are having a relaxing trip - despite the blown tire. Now just finish up your trip so we can see those pictures.
Jerry

Finally made it home about 9:30 tonight. Here's a few of the pictures. Nothing special, just desert mostly.
You could see these mountains 50 miles before you get to them.

Welcome home Ed Glad to see ya made back
Glad you're back safe too, & that some good times along the way.
Is there a lot of Amish out there?
Noticed they have some wide berms along the roads. :eyebrownod:
VV, I don't know about the Amish. Didn't see any. And I'm not sure if it was Arizona or New Mexico, but there was a sign on the interstate that said bicycles must use shoulder.
There was one place in Arizona called Texas Canyon. It was a cool looking place that I was wanting to stop and take some pictures. Just as we got there it started storming and pouring rain. I'll try to get some better pics on my next trip out there at the end of the month.
I don't know how many trips I'll be making. They have 6 of our trailers out there right now and there's probably a dozen or more scattered out in our eastern railyards that are supposed to go out there to be refurbished.
Well then Ed if your taking pics anyway how about some of the lizards :eyebrow:. They fix trailers up here too .
That is some cool looking country.
I know in my trip to Arizona it was one of the most visually intriguing places I've ever been. Some of those formations are just phenomenal, and your pics show it yet again.
Thanks for sharing em. Got any more? :eyebrow:
Glad yer back Ed! All that flat ground woulda had me all......... uneven...... :laf:

Ed, I'm glad you made it home safe and sound, looking forward to your next trip out this way and maybe we can get in a stand or two.
Is there a lot of Amish out there? Noticed they have some wide berms along the roads.
The wide berms are to make travel easier for the illegals, we don't want to discomfort them nor make their travel more hazardous than it already is.
A couple more of Texas Canyon:
