So why did ya lengthen it Bill? They gona do something with it?
Yeah they are gonna make a wrecker out of it
Thats cool! So is that all your gona do to it or are you going to be involved in the rest of the wrecker build as well.
Wow :bowingsmilie:. That is awesome Bill. Do you have to have someone come in and certify it after it's done so it can be licensed . I've seen a few stretched trucks in my time and that looks like a very good job to me. Does it dog track now :innocentwhistle:.
Slag No my part is done the owner is picking it up next week and he has an older wrecker that he is just gonna transfer the body from

Nope it is still the same truck the license still fit in the holes on the bumper :laf:
No inspection of the truck is necessary

Hell no you didn't see a dog leg in any of the pics I posted did ya :alscalls:
I even caught hell from the boss cause I had to tack weld the one side just to hold that side while I pulled with a chain and binder on the other side just to get another 1/8 of an inch
When I told him it had to be done so I could make it straight he just walked away and left me alone for the rest of the job
Why do people who dont know whats going on, always have to come up and tell you how it should be done?
I can't answer that one Slag but it does happen alot in our shop
Looks like excellent work Bill!
Jim
A WRECKER!?
Holy crap that's going to be the ultimate test of that things structural integrity NOW isnt it? :laf:
Are you nervous?

Not one bit this is the 2nd truck I built that is being used for a wrecker the first one was about 3 years ago and still in service
I built a couple grain haulers in the past few years and all are doing fine
Bill,
Have you considered making stretch limos out of V W beetles?
Jerry
No I haven't Yerry but it does sound like a good idea
No inspection required?? Wow.....obviously your a very qualified welder , good job!!!! I know I wouldnt want the liablity to fall back on me.....lol
Jeb
I don't know how qualified I am but I do know with the amount of bolts that this was put together with I wouldn't be afraid to drive and haul with it and not be welded
The weld makes it look pretty :laf: it is kinda like putting trim in a new house
Well it DID turn out pretty :eyebrow:
Question...how in the [L] did you get that thing hung upside down for the 9th pic there? The truck's upside down and your between the frame rails upside down.
Yeah that's right, click image below to see the mystery unraveled
I had to go back and look the feller taking the pics had his cell phone upside down when he took the pic
Thats the only explanation I can come up with
or
I am good really good :alscalls:
Thats my story and I am sticking to it

So you guys are allowed to drink when ya cut semi's in half and weld them back together and can still eliminate any inspection by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and Regulations Commission?
SAWeeeeeeeeeeet! :yoyo:
Are you guys hiring? :eyebrow:
Who said he was drinking he is one of those guys that just don't pay attention
and no all positions are full up
I woulda beveled the cuts with a torch........... then made one Root pass and about three cover passes........Cleaning between each pass......
Other than that....... nice job........
Wow Al you can see how the welds were put on there :laf: no pics during that process
There are several passes on each splice then ground down
The only time I had a weld break was when I was forced to use a welder that was in need of repair and a kid in our shop kept messing with it while I was welding
This truck will last a long time the way it is put together

Yeah well not everyone has your kind of luck Barry
