Title: Cool experience in my treestand last night.
Post by: iahntr on October 23, 2010, 10:44:46 AM
I had a neat experience last night in the treestand. I was sittin there reading my book,
and heard a little somethin in the leaves off to my side, so I slowly looked over,,,,,, and,,,,,
there was a squirrel goin through !!! Just messin with ya.  So anyhow, I go back to
my book and am rather enjoying it, a few minutes later I hear a slight movement in the leaves
off to my right again, at first I didn't wanna leave my book again, Glaser was ropin a Caribou ,
but I thought I better check it out, so again I slowly look up and over and guess what, it wasn't no
squirrel this time ! So now I'm kinda doin a little double take, and thinkin is that a bobcat ?!?! nah
it's a cat, no it's a bobcat ! Now I know this ain't a big deal to some of you, but it's a pretty cool
deal here in Iowa. There's gettin to be a few more here, but there's only a season for them in the
southern counties, and a quota of I think 200 state wide. So, it's comin in off to my right and walkin
catlike () right under my stand. I'm trying to put my book down in my lap and get my camera
outta my pocket without this sucker seein me, and it's directly below my stand. It caught a little movement
from me and looked up at me, as I did one of these,  :innocentwhistle: , "I'm nothin but part of the tree,
don't mind me",  :innocentwhistle:   :laf:  so it took about two more steps, and then decided it didn't like that
and put it in reverse and started to go back the same way it came. So I get my camera out as it's walkin
away and I'm pushin the buttin and my cameras not workin, so I'm cussin and lookin at my camera tryin to
figure it out,,,  :madd:,,,,,, oh, I have it on Video !  :doh2: :eyebrownod: So this is what I got, not too great
of footage, but I did get somethin !  :laf:

I know the video is short, and not good,  :laf: but he's in there if ya look close.  and yeah, that part
where ya look up into the trees is where I'm lookin at, and cursing my camera.  :eyebrownod:  I know it was
WAY cooler for me then for you guys, but thought I'd share it with ya anyways.
Here's a "paused" pic out of the video.

That's a pretty cool story Scott. We see some of the darnedest and coolest things when we are just sitting out there in nature.

Totally wow Scott :bowingsmilie:.  I like the part where you had the presence of mind to even think camera[you'll be a Richard soon] and then even better to show it to us.  Never saw a Bobcat in my life so I'd of probably fell out of the stand with excitement.  What's with the book .

Very cool Scott.  To see any animal in the wild while you are hunting or just out roaming around in old Mother Nature is enjoyable.  Glad to see Frank Glaser "Alaska's Wolfman" is keeping you company in the tree stand.

That is really neat.  I still haven't seen one in Ohio, but know that I would be really excited if I did.

Thats great bud !!  Glad to see what kind of hunter you are by not blasting that cat into two pieces like most hunters would do here in Ga. And then go brag about how good a bobcat hunter they are. Congrats on the experience and footage.

Pretty neat, Scott!   I had one come in at LBL a couple of years ago.  But it was a day out of season and I was using an ecaller at the time.  Had to let it walk.  Still pretty neat sight.  It made no sound at all.

Thanks guys. That particular treestand I was in is a pretty low one,
so to have her at about 14 feet from me was pretty cool. I'm glad
I at least got the little video of it that I did, and could share it, and
I'm glad ya enjoyed it.

- Barry, I picked up a couple books while I was in Alaska. No better
place to read about the outdoors, then when you're out in em.
