I almost didn't go out today because it was a bit windy, but figured why not so I packed my stuff and headed to the farm I've been hunting in Indiana. The land owner and I set up in a cut soy bean field that has a dip/ditch running through the middle of it with some saplings and tall grass growing in it. I thought that would do good to conceal us and we could see the entire field and woods surrounding it.
I sat the Mojo critter and Spitfire out about 30-40 yards from us and let things settle down for about 10 minutes. I began softly calling on my Primos Lil dog doing some rabbit distress off and on for about 10 minutes. Nothing was showing so I started playing Lucky Bird on the Spitfire for another 15-20 and at about the 15 minute mark an owl swooped in for a look at the critter and landed right beside it. I about panicked because I did not want to lose my decoy lol. But it flew off and all was well.
Well we had about 20 minutes until it was going to get dark so I played some coyote pup distress and about 5-10 minutes later I caught movement to my right, it was a yote and I whispered to my buddy not to move, he didn't see it yet. It was running straight towards the decoy and was locked in on it which allowed me to position my sticks for the shot. I thought I was going to have to stop it but once i got it in the scope it stopped at 80 yards and I let the Savage rip and it dropped right there. I was pumped because it's the first one I've called across a field in the daytime. It was cool watching it charge in and lock in on the critter.

Wow looks like you almost shot its head off, what kind of gun are you shooting? Congrats on the kill.
Good job slicker. :congrats:

Quoteit was a yote and I whispered to my buddy not to move,
I know what you meant. I just found it a little humorous is all. :laf: :laf: Congratulations on the coyote. You sure laid that one out!! :yoyo: :yoyo:
Nice job...looks like was anchored pretty well :yoyo:
Congratulations, what caliber and bullet are you using?
Yep, I don't believe that one will be jumping up and running off anytime soon. :eyebrownod:
:highclap: Congrats on the call in, good job. :congrats:
Let me add my congrats as well! :congrats:
Congrats !!
Thanks guys. As to the caliber and bullet, it's a .243 shooting Winchester Ballistic Silver tip 55 grain. There was a follow up shot though because after he went down and I switched the caller to ki-yi he started raising his head up and so he got another one. I need to find a more fur friendly round if I ever plan on skinning one out.
Niiiiiiiiice! :highclap: :highclap:
WTG Slick! :congrats:
Good shooting! WTG! And thanks for the story and picture!!
Jim
