Title: youth hunt
Post by: lacie23 on October 31, 2010, 02:07:45 PM
Yesterday was our youth hunt for deer. My daddy took me out and we sat at a good crossing for about 2 hours but only saw 2 squirrels. We decided to move to another spot. When we got to the edge of an old field my Daddy said, "There's a deer". It was standing on the other edge of the field, about 90 yards away. I got a good rest and when I shot , it dropped straight down !!  It was in almost the same spot where I got my 8-point last year.

Congratulations Lacie! Good to see more young women out in the hunting fields. What firearm, caliber, and bullet combination did you use to take your deer?

Thanks very much everyone !!  Yes, it was a button buck. Any antlerless deer is legal and button bucks are considered antlerless. I was using a Remington Model 700  .270. 130 grain soft point bullets.

:rolleye: :rolleye:  It didn't hit hard but Murphy's law seems to be multiplied about ten times in my case.  I was afraid to let her use it until we checked it on the target.
Doesn't matter what gun she shoots, the result is usually meat on the table.  :eyebrow: :eyebrow:

Lacie,

Congratulations on the button buck.  I am sure that it will taste good.  How do you like the recoil on the .270?

Well Barry the ram pasture gate does have  double locks and she welded the keyholes shut after last night. She had a halloween party and dressed up as a nurse, and of course I was the doctor. Somtime during the course of the night after I had several conversations with Mr. Bud, she asked if I wanted to play "Doctor" and of course I was all for it. Then instead of keeping my mouth shut  and going along for the ride , here is where Mr. Murphy and Mr. Bud got me again, I said " Let's start by removing some of this cellulite" .  :doh2: :doh2: :doh2: :doh2:

I hope to break out of this pasture by the time rifle season rolls around.  :madd: :madd: :madd:

Thank you everyone !!!!  Jerry, I don't like the .270 too much, I like my .222 a lot better.

I don't blame you one bit.  I have a .222 and like it MUCH better than my .270.  Actually, I like my .221 Fireball even better (less recoil) than the .222.
