Whats your opinions? I have a chance at one in excilent shape with 200 rounds for $400?
Do I need it? No, but it intrest me cause I like all those lil guns like the .17hmr, 22 wm etc........
Any input?
Can one still get ammo for it? It was a short lived caliber from back in the '70's. Don't know much about it.
Todd,
Here's a company that is making the ammo again for the 5mm's. Supposed to be a neat little round. The Win .22WMR sort of did it in back in the seventies. So it faded away. Aguila is putting some new life back into the cartridge. I'd offer the fella $375, and then jump on it!

Edited to add: If you do a Google search of: Aguila ammo 5mm you'll find alot of good reading. Such as;
http://www.jesseshunting.com/articles/guns/category8/209.html
I don't know much about the gun, or killing power, but the ammo was hard to find for a while. Partial boxes of ammo were selling for $70.00 for 47 rounds. A little expensive for rimfire ammo. I see in Shotgun News that Centurion Has recently made some. I don't know if it was a limited run, or if they will continue to make it though. I haven't heard anything bad about the rifles themselves.
Thanks Dave, I left the guy a message hoping he'll call back. He must not be on night shift like me? :innocentwhistle: If I didn't mention it its a 591.
Art, I saw the Centurion, and I found it for as low as $17 a box. Read somewhere else there might be another company fixing to roll some too?
Looks like a neat lil' shooter.
Here's some of the Centurion ammo for $15.42 (http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd_images/lgprod/AMM-079.jpg) (http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/AMM079-5.html) ....Click on the pic.
HaMeR, I'm pretty sure, was asking about getting too.
I wouldn't turn one down, but then I got a kink that way. :innocentwhistle:
I would jump on it for sure. :eyebrow: Aguila is making the ammo & it is selling like a house a fire. Aguila also has NO intentions of ever selling to the highest bidder so the thought of CCI or Hornady buying them & discontinuing the ammo is not gonna happen. They will only stop loading it when 5MM owners stop buying it.
www.varminter.com has some interesting articles on their front page about this. Tim Mancillas & Andy Moe were instrumental in the load development with Aguila & have shared as much as they are allowed.

I think he is working on figuring out how to use Photobucket. :innocentwhistle:
Jerry
I had a Remington 591 years ago for turkey hunting. I sold it around 87 with 5 boxes of ammo. I switched to the 218 bee for turkey hunting then.
If I had known then they would ever come out with new ammo again I surely would have kept it. Sounds like a decent deal to me.
After looking up info on the 5MM rim fire Magnum. I think I would like one myself.
At this point the only new 5MM is going to ba a Taurus revolver.

Not yet, still in negotiations. :innocentwhistle: Its look'n 99% sure though, thanks to all the pushing here. :alscalls:
If I stock up now, maybe when I retire I can move somewhere where I can participate in the "Legendary FNF Ground Hog Wars". If you guys leave any breeding stock. :nono:
I'm sure there will always be groundhogs in Ohio Todd. I aint so sure about Pa with that HH fella over there tho. :innocentwhistle: You are always Welcome here to shoot some whistle pigs & I think I could find a farmer that would let you help me out some. I'll even have Diane run the camera.
Sorry Hamer it'll have to be Non-Obama Supporting State. :innocentwhistle:
Todd, hope it works out for you and you are able to pick up that rifle. I was always intrigued by the round ever since I saw a commercial on tv back in the seventies during a hunting show. Fellow shot an egg at 100 yards! I was still a kid, but dreamed of someday having a rifle like that in my chuck hunting arsenal (which at that time consisted of a Marlin .22 rifle and a Ithaca single shot 20 gauge). Ah, the chucks I could have collected (atleast in my mind) if only I had such a formidible shooting iron! :laf: Good luck!

Check out the last election. People in Ohio are starting to wake up.
Jerry
Ohio voted for all the Bush's & Reagan. It appears we dropped the ball in '08 but the 2010 electiong proved we figured it out again. Besides that I only hunt on Republican owned property.
I hope it works out for you Ohio'n brothers.
Looks like the rifles mine. I go pick it up Friday morning and with any luck I might shoot something with it by time I get home (2 Hour round trip). :innocentwhistle: He also told me today he found the old scope that went woth it too, and that he would throw it in if I wanted it. We'll see what she is. :sneer:
Cool!! Looks like all the pushing we did worked out for ya!! :yoyo: :yoyo:
And if you aint happy with it remember we know what you gave for it. :innocentwhistle:

:innocentwhistle:
No, you know what he asked for it.
I told the wife I had to go pick a rifle up and she said "Do you really need another one?" I said "No, I really don't and really wasn't looking to add it the arsenal, but the guys at FNF didn't give me a choice. They kinda pushed me into it, almost threatened me I do believe. But, don't worry honey. I'll hang onto it long enough to keep them off my backs then when they forget about it, I'll sell it." :innocentwhistle: She said "Wow, thats perty good thinking and ya pulled the wool right over their eyes to boot. I didn't realize I married such a smart and cunning husband." :sneer:
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!! :readthis:

I had a chance to buy one for $125.00 about 20 years ago. At the time my dad told me that they were a great little rifle, but I shouldn't waste my money because ammo was already a problem then. I wish I had known they would start making ammo again.
Hey HaMer, I guess we can let Todd join in the "Groundhog Festivites". He's now equipped. Congrats Todd! We'll have to set a two state hunt up for him. Perhaps Diane can give him a few pointers on how to take out those whistle pigs? Of course we'll have to film everything, and then post it on FnF. :laf: Meantime it would be great to read of some of Todd's exploits with his new rifle.
:laf: Yeah I think he's over equipped with that newfangled 5MM Dave!! Wouldn't that be considered overkill?? We don't like overkill on groundhogs. :noway:
WE LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I too look forward to the well behaved critter shots Todd!! And a hero pic as well. :eyebrow: You will be Welcome here anytime Todd & I think we can find a hog or 3 for you. :yoyo:
I bet that would make a great RF coyote rifle in those RF only areas too.
Lol, thanks fellas. Yeah, I'll have to hang the ole 17 HMR up for a while and just use the 5mm is my primary coyote killer. :innocentwhistle: :alscalls:
I had a coyote at about 160yds one day when I had the 17HMR out. I was able to lip squeak him to maybe 110yds. I wanted to shoot soooo bad but decided better of it. If everything would have been perfect I would have taken the shot. But it wasn't & I didn't. But under 75yds with the HMR I'm gonna hammer one someday. :eyebrow:
So you DID pick it up. :congrats:
Nice job with the wife by the way :innocentwhistle:
When do we get to see it?
Dang HaMer what did you shoot that pig with, whatever it turned him inside out. cc
Head in to get it in about an hour Jimbo.
CC--I can't take the blame credit for that one. Diane did it with the 204 & a 39gr Sierra BK. That messed up looking part used to be it's head. :alscalls:
:yahoo: We want pics of the new rig man!!! :yoyo: :yoyo:
I seem to remember someone advertising in the Varmint Hunter magazine with 5mm ammo also. This guy loaded the ammo himself. Obviously he had a source for the rimfire brass. You may be able to find something on the VH website, or just by calling them in Pierre.
JB in NC
Over all pretty darn nice lil rifle! Came with some ammo and probably an original Western Field 2.5x20 scope (which I might put back on). A couple of wear spots and some minor scratches on the bottom of the trigger guard, but over alll good enough to be MINE!

Yeah thats in great shape. Looks a lot like my old Savage Arms 22
Nice grab for sure :congrats:
WTG Todd! :congrats:

Now this sping we'll want to see the targets. :eyebrow:
Targets VV?? :nono: I wanna see it's VVictims!! :yoyo: :yoyo:
HaMer, Man that 204 did a job on that chuck with Diane driving, wow . cc
Yeah she's a real hog wrecker for sure. Now She has a hard time deciding which rig to grab now that she has clocked a few with the 221 FireBall. :laf: :laf:
Todd, you did well. :highclap:
Here’s a tad o’ reading that you all may find interesting:

You get tired of that gun yet? I will give it a good home. :innocentwhistle: :alscalls: :alscalls:
Todd,
Looks like a nice addition to your son's gun collection. Make sure you take good care of it so that he will be able to appreciate it like you do. It does appear to be in very good shape and we will be waiting for an update on how it shoots.
