Been out after the ever elusive big boy around these parts the last 2 days. Didn't see anything other then the real nice 10 point hanging in the garage that another guy in the party shot. :eyebrownod: Nice buck for sure. I haven't see one deer yet but I think I seen an ark floating down thru the valley this afternoon.
:laf: :laf:
Anybody else brave the rains today?
I got the little buck with the crossbow so I have been able to be inside and only look out the window at the rain. I can honestly say that I am glad I am not out there with 25 pound boots (2 pounds of boots and 23 pounds of mud) to help my knee problem.
Glen, Maybe tomorrow will be your day for Mr. BIG.
Jerry
I'll be chasin' 'em near Fresno come friday and sat....or maybe I'll just swing by Pearl Valley and buy some snacks. :yoyo:
Bring your snow gear Mike
It might be Jerry!! They oughta be movin around 9 when this rain gets out of here. :eyebrow:
It's been raining here for 2 days. I wish I had a tag left. I love hunting in the rain. Good luck Glen.
John
Thanks John. We'll hit the woods again tomorrow. :yoyo: :yoyo:
Good luck! We're rootin' for you.
man i wish i could go hunting. im getting tired of catching fish every day in the hot sun and getting propositioned by prostitutes
:laugh2: @ ^^^^!!
We got some snow on the ground this AM. Might not last all day but we at least got some!! Beats the heck out of the rain!! :yoyo: :yoyo:
I went out Thanksgiving Day and didnt see squat. In a way I'm kind of glad, we just had an ice storm and I dont think I could have even drug a deer back to the truck. It was pretty rough going.
Tikaani will read that and laugh his butt off at me :laf:
We open back Dec, 9-12th. I'll try to slip back out then.
My dragging days are over me thinks. I let Rubi do my dragging now. :eyebrownod:
Good luck on the deer hunting, y'all.

Maybe you can. Just start hunting for the prostitutes. :innocentwhistle:
Jerry
P.S. If you think any of us are going to feel sorry for you (while you are in a warm place fishing {with benefits}) you are just wrong.
Take advantage of the warm climate & extre curricular activities while you can Dave. I dropped my gloves on the trail in the dark this AM & fished them out of a damn puddle. I My fingers are froze right now but I do have some new dry gloves to take back with me. Of course my dry glove backup plan also failed me since I didn't have them with me & had to come home & get them. :doh2:

Oh thanks Dave. I was just coming to grips with our snow and actually enjoying it. Now you screwed me up. Thanks 'ol buddy. :laf: I see how you are. lol
Seen 1 small buck & 14 does/button bucks. Let em all walk. I only had good clear shots at 5 of them. :eyebrownod:
I was going to go hunt this morning. After the alarm went off, I decided I was a little "burned out" on hunting deer..... so went back to sleep until it was time to take the boys to school.
Maybe next week I'll feel the urge.

I would hate to have to go out, bag a nice buck, only to have my son tell me that it is half the size of his smaller one. :innocentwhistle:

I target dinks. Easier to haul out on my own, and much tastier. That will be my excuse....
I wish I was out there....... Hmmmm..... I may go tomorrow......
I'm with you Fos. I decided to not go out this AM. I enjoy deer hunting but I don't live for it. It's a relaxing way to spend some time in the outdoors.
A nice buck is just that Jerry. Your Son's may be bigger but he didn't harvest yours for you. :yoyo: :yoyo: :yoyo: :highclap: :highclap: :highclap:
Well here he is. I was riding from one stand to the next when I seen him down over the hill. He jumped up & trotted around the point so I left the Ranger running & grabbed the Winchester & snuck out around the hill on the trail above him. :eyebrow: I was in full stealth mode with my hunter orange on & I was able to get a glimpse of him down over the hill. I moved to the upper side of the trail & crouched over til I got a tree betwixt us. I just kinda sidled over to the tree real gentle like & brought the Winnie up as I approached it. I wrapped the barrel around the tree & dropped my head to the stock in one motion & adjusted the crosshairs a smidge for some brush & a high shoulder shot & lit the 90grs of loose Triple7 fffg & sent the 240gr CheapShot on it's merry but intentionally deadly way. :eyebrow:

Congrats Hamer! Unique looking set of head gear that buck is sporting.
Way to go Glen. :yoyo: :yoyo:
Pat
ahhhhhhhhhh some visual aids :highclap:
Awesome....and whole lot better then the one I got too!
Thanks guys.
FOs-- There are a couple bucks over there that have that type of rack. One was shot last night & the other this AM. I think there are 2 more scraggly racks over there that are typical on one side & funked up on the other. There's only 2 buck tags left in our party & I know one of the guys might clock a management buck. I don't know if the other will or not. It's his tag so I'm cool with whatever he shoots.
Thanks Pat. The only thing better than harvesting this deer was being able to bring it home with me in one piece. :eyebrownod:
I just know you woulda got that monster up there if you weren't working these darned 3 day weeks!! :argh:
:laf: :laf:
:wo: Super nice!!! Ok, how many hand calls can you get from those horns? :eyebrow:
CONGRADULATIONS HaMeR. :congrats: Looks like a nice buck and will be good eatin' for sure. :yoyo:
Nice one! Don't ya just love sneakin' around in hunter orange. :eyebrownod:
Good job on the deer Glen. :yoyo: Why not hide behind a sign for them there .
He's a dandy! Thanks for the story of the stalk & shot and for posting the pic. WTG!
:laf: I aint no call maker Chet. But I do know some that can make an antler sing the blues!! :eyebrow:
Thanks Ed. It will do just fine in the crock pot.
:laf: :laf: @ Semp!! Yep!! I think it was more curiosoty that the guy just stood there. :laf:
Thanks Barry!! I couldn't find one!!! :laf: :laf:
You're Welcome Okanagan!! I'm happy with this one.
That'll work Glen ! :highclap: :congrats:
Good goin' Glen! Glad somebody scored. All we seen yesterday was a coyote and I couldn't get a shot at him.
Yes it will Scott.
Mike-- One of the guys here missed a coyote from 45yds with his ML'er. He's still  over that one. :laf: :laf: Woulda been neat to see what one of those 300gr ballistic tips over 100grs of T7 done to it on a shoulder shot too. I'm done now til the extra weekend, 18th & 19th, then I'm gonna try to tag a nice doe I think. Where do you hunt up here?
A little ways due west of Fresno...and Edy Ryan's in Coshocton :eyebrownod: Good fodder there.
That's cool. They have real nice deer around there as well. Good Luck!! :yoyo:

I went back home last night. I prolly won't be back to deer hunt till smoke pole season. I will almost definitely be up later in the month to do some coyote hunting though.
Look me up Mike we will hit that other spot I was telling you about
OHHHHHHhhhhhhhhh! the secret spot?
Nothing Secret about it I just found it on Black Friday :nono:
Cool deal! :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:
Glen,
Congrats on the deer. I think I saw several HUNTER ORANGE stealth hunters on the drive back from Columbus today.
Jerry
Friend of mine killed a nice 12pt in Knox Co. Ohio. They grow them much bigger up there.
Congrats on the deer Glen and a great story. I quit hunting on the military base because they want ya all dressed up in that glow in the dark orange.
John
Thanks everybody. But it really was the deers fault. Had he not stood up as I was driving by I would have never seen him. His bed was back against the bank. He shoulda never moved. :nono: :nono: Then the terrain was to my advantage & I just happened to be in an area where the trees were a little bigger than most on that part of the property. I would rather be lucky than good.
Nice buck !!
Thanks bam.
That's a good start HaMeR. Now go kill a bunch more! :eyebrow:
I got a freezer at the house iffen you run outta room.
:laf:
We're good on freezer space VV. I'm still gonna take a doe yet. Not sure if I wanna do it with the bow or with the ML again.

Good job Glen, I've used that same strategy myself.
Thanks yoter!! How's the knee. It's been a couple 3 years now right? Are you still active on hte MA? Hope you & the Mrs & little ones are doing well!! :yoyo: :yoyo:
Hey Glen, Congrats on a fine buck. -Been behind on my reading, don't know how I missed this one? Anyway, way to go on filling the freezer. :congrats:
Dave
Thanks Dave. He's a nice one I think too. I'll be getting the rack back sometime next week I hope & get a decent pic of it.
The knee is good Glen. I still train and compete as much as possible. Wife & kids are doing great too.
That is good to hear. I know it was purdy darn bad. Luckily you're young & can still overcome these things. :eyebrownod: :eyebrownod:
Had the amish put the rack on a plaque. :laf: :laf:
YEP!! The rack is that crooked!! :laf: :laf:

That is a nice buck. They did a good job.
Thank you RayElla.
Nice set up & you're right, it is crooked. :doh2:
What do you expect for $30 VV??
:laf: :laf:
I wouldn't let it be crooked iffen I did it for free.
But then again I know you'd blab it on the internet if it was! :innocentwhistle:
:laf: :laf: :laf:
:laf: :laf: Yeah I know. Darned blabber mouth anyhow. :laf: :laf: Besides that. The feller that was wearing it growed it crooked. :laf: :laf:
It also has a serious case of "wall" shrinkage!! :laugh2: :laugh2: I'm just glad I shot it in Midvale. :eyebrownod: :eyebrownod:
