Title: Defective Ammo? Probably
Post by: Bills Custom Calls on November 30, 2010, 07:17:51 PM
A buddy stopped by this evening when he came to the door I seen he had a gun in his hands I figured he was gonna show off his new addition. When he handed it to me the first thing I noticed was this

Then he tells me
Yesterday when he was hunting deer he pulled up to shoot one the first round went off ok he chambered shell #2 and pulled the trigger didn't hear nothing figured the shell didn't chamber and chambered again keeping his eye on the target he squeezed again with a big bang and now his glove is missing a thumb his ears are still ringing and thumb still hurts but he is fine
The only thing he can figure is the 2nd shell misfired and the slug hung up in the barrel and the 3rd slug hit the 2nd and expanded and need to get out
I guess you can never be careful enough

Looks like a 20/12 burst.

seen it happen when a 20 guage shell is loaded into a 12 guage shotgun. the 20 guage will slide into the barrel and the 12 will detenate it when it goes off.

Glad your friend wasnt hurt

OUCH !!!

Looks like it was  a barrel blockage.  Regardless of what caused the customizing job your buddy is quit lucky not to have lost a hand or worse.

Your friend must have had a guardian angle looking out for him that day.

If he didn't hear anything when he tried to fire the second shot, I'd agree with slagmaker. Looks like the 20/12 thing. Not good whatever the cause, but he is certainly lucky.

He was very lucky to say the least he could have easily lost a finger or more.

BTW you now know what to buy your friend for Christmas for the new gun he buying to replace that one..........

Some gun oil. :laf: That gun is dry as a bone and looks to have been that way for awhile.

There is a reason 20 gauge shells are YELLOW.

Glad your buddy wasn't seriously hurt.    :rolleye:

I am not saying that "is" what happened just that it "looks like" it could have happened that way. BUT whatever happened your friend is extremely lucky to be as uninjured as he is.

Semp is correct, that is the exeact reason that 20 gauge shells are yellow.

And Jim and Richard are also correct. That gun is dry.

And that dog looks like it wants some attention.
