Firewood pile
My Nephew works at a sawmill and he asked if I would like some of the cut offs when they grade lumber, well I never turn down fire wood so this is the 2nd pick up load he has brought me.While unloading I just have to look at what the saw mill is throwing out.
I thought I would share some walnut with you folks

Wow, that is one, twisted, mangled up, nasty knotted, sweet looking burl :eyebrow:
That is some fancy looking grain, time to break out the wood glue and clamps
Don't need any wood glue or clamps.....Well unless I make 2 piece calls  :eyebrownod:
Bill, are the cut off pieces thick enough to make calls without laminating??
Also it looks like some nicely figured pistol grip & knife handle material you got there.
They are 1 1/8 - 1 1/4 thick and plenty wide enough and long enough to get several calls from one piece
Now if I knew any one that made slate calls :wo: :wo: :wo:
Heck I may even try one of those my self
I got some 6 and 8 1/4 in that load also I will have to do more looking before this stuff goes up in smoke
 I have a strong feeling wood chips will be a flying soon.

What burl?
You must be talking about Bill's crouch piece. :eyebrownod:
It isn't quite dry yet but it shouldn't take to long now should have some done out of it for the LBL though
Then there will be a lot of these @ LBL...
Yep I am sure
I already have to make one out of this stuff for a feller I know
Bill,
I feel real sorry for you that you have to use "scrap" wood. Since you didn't pay him for it, did you at least give him a big kiss?
Jerry
I did have to pay him for it Jerry That boy drives a hard bargain For a load of fire wood the price was kind of expensive but for call making wood it was cheap :laf:
