These sticks are made with expandable rubber. The top portion has protective rubber coating to keep from scratching any firearm.

How long can you make them before they start flexing?

These are made from solid aluminum. I have some longer ones that I use when hunting from seat in my ground blind. They don't really flex at all if you are only using them for shooting sticks. I think they are very durable and have some grat reviews so far from some of the other forums.
